The best coaches always explain the mindset behind the movement. Explaining the purpose usually makes the process easier to understand. At least in my book.
The thing is he should not be pretty underrated, and he shouldn’t be underrated at all! It’s just like I am very underrated because I’m older, and I never did a lot of stuff! I did competitions, and won, but who cares! The biggest thing with a lot of the guys to as a teacher water downed stuff Brian he teaches great stuff ,but hardly anybody even knows I don’t do a lot of videos, thing is I am a person that’s been doing wrestling judo in Jujitsu for over 38 years, and post them anymore because if people wanna know stuff it’s all good!
It is a beautiful thing to watch a true coach in action. Brian's tone, the pace of explanation, the progressive expectation of his students while drilling. This is coaching at it's finest. Much respect
I wrestled in HS, I am Junior High Wrestling Coach, and I have taught submission grappling to adults and kids for 15 years.... I love this video and it goes to show watching & listening to what other coaches are doing as well as their teaching methods and blending it with how you teach pays off. I used this drill last night and it was very easy for beginners to understand and was very effective. Thanks for all the videos you post
Dude I didn’t realize my problem was pushing and bridging at the same time, I’ve been getting stuck in side control a lot lately and couldn’t figure out why no escape was working
I heard this “dont push w arms” before but never understood why. Very helpful to hear reasons behind it which are actually key to the move the hipping out part always felt weird to me but when its linked to the arm push looks smooth and natural. Great video
This was one of the things I was able to do on my blue belt exam. This channel is simply amazing because it doesn’t just show the escape but also things the opponent can do. Whenever I need a refresher I look at this channel and it is instantly noticeable how I spar. Thank you so much!
Wow, what a great lesson,,,I’m a white belt,,age 50,,,,my buddy who’s a purple belt and 260 always holds me in side control. I’ll try this today while rollin. Thanks for the great videos sir.
Bro... I used to get stuck at bottom side control, and now I can throw people away with those little details on how to bridge and than push them away. You saved our lifes, we're eternally greatful.
Dude. You are so good at explaining stuff. You make the information relatable and break it down into details that are easily digested. Many many thanks always
This is going to be my saving grace as I often have to roll with someone over 300lbs, it's difficult, this looks like it'll make my life a lot easier. Thank you, every video I've seen of yours has been great, I will be watching more.
I needed to see this video, especially the beginning. I'm trying to teach my 7-year-old how to escape this position. And this didactic of practicing near the wall will be perfect for training. Muito obrigado. Thanks!
This really does put things in context. Shrimping in warm up down a line is one thing, shrimping when you "need it" is a completely different beast. This video really does an awesome job of illustrating why this skill is crucial and by practicing against the wall I think you can a better feel if your technique is up to the task. I've learned that I need to spend a ton more work on improving this skill. Great vid.
never thought about "dissipating" the force through the arms push but now that i m thinking it actually makes sense, my hip generates power/torque while "power-bridging" instead. thanks professor!
I’m at Redlands now but it was such a pleasure to have you visit 10priv when I was still there. I don’t know who set it up but mr Tice & professor Dolf where still there and I’m blessed and grateful to still learn from a distance. Godspeed and god bless. Thank you for the lessons 🙏🏼❤️
Really great, detailed, and useful explanations. I learned these moves in the beginning and these are the details that make it all of it make sense. Thank you!
THANK YOU! Coming in at 70kg (154lb) wringing wet, get out of side has always been a challenge. Just about everyone where I train is bigger than me. This really helped.
this is freakin' awesome!!! 👍💯👏 i was taught this a few years back and never got it ... 1 time listening to you explain this and I got it ... I actually understood the "why" ... thank you 🙏🙏
This the one💪 been struggling getting stuck in side control and until now couldn’t find a solid “go to” to retain guard… hit this one in class a few times today, beautiful stuff & really well explained. will be using this a ton. thanks!
@@badxradxandy there are drawbacks to being out so far from a city. No access to awesome classes and training. It's a 2 hr drive just to get to the city
Think I've only ever commented on maybe 2 videos since I've been watching UA-cam videos for 10+ years. This deserves a comment, your videos are amazing coach! So many details, awesome stuff man. Hope to train at your gym one day :)
Legit AF. Thanks man. I am far too experienced to be this shitty in side control - the destructive power of bad habits coupled with physical attributes.
Love the video. Love the humor and personality. Always figured I couldn’t bridge due to lack of strength, but it appears my technique is just bad. Will try this out!
You explaining the "why" instead of only the "how" is the reason this is the best martial arts channel on youtube.

I don't agree yours is the best, this is a close second .

Dude I didn’t realize my problem was pushing and bridging at the same time, I’ve been getting stuck in side control a lot lately and couldn’t figure out why no escape was working
Same here!!!! Couldn't escape one guy's side control till this!
I heard this “dont push w arms” before but never understood why. Very helpful to hear reasons behind it which are actually key to the move the hipping out part always felt weird to me but when its linked to the arm push looks smooth and natural. Great video
Pushing with your arms also exposes them, potentially getting you arm barred.

Fantastic drill. I am constantly smashed in side control.
Only people with experience realize how SUPER IMPORTANT is this micro adjustment.

This is highly detailed and as a white belt, I do struggle with escaping a tight/pressured side control. Thank you.
This content is GOLD!
That's a really useful lesson. I remember in BJJ we called the Bridge and Roll, OOPAH! This side escape is really useful against really heavy guys.
Great info 👍🌟
