We hear about the negative things, but we do not hear about the positive things. In my first and third years of college, I was the only black male on campus and I never felt different in any way. I started in 1963. I now hold a bachelor degree in sociology and a Master of Divinity Degree and in both insstitutions, I was the only black male on campus for two of those years. I can blame only myself for not being more successful. In high school I did not apply myself as well as I should. I can't blame anybody else for this. College was a real struggle for me, but as long as I followed the rules and had decent grades, I was fine. If my grades were good, the college made sure that I could stay. As for the term "African American," I and many other black Americans find the term insulting. We are Americans, not partial Americans and we have no allegiance nor interest in any other part of the world any more than anybody else does. We are proud to be Americans. I worshipped and worked with people who have escaped from other countries and have come here to have a better life. I thank God for them.

I am white and as hard as I try I can think of nothing that I should feel personally responsible for. None of my ancestors even immigrated to America until after slavery was abolished. "White privilege" is a myth. As the video shows, we black people can do what we want to do and this might had been true for 40 or 50 years. We hear about the negative things, but we do not hear about the positive things. In my first and third years of college, I was the only black male on campus and I never felt different in any way. I started in 1963. I now hold a bachelor degree in sociology and a Master of Divinity Degree and in both insstitutions, I was the only black male on campus for two of those years.
I can blame only myself for not being more successful. In high school I did not apply myself as well as I should. I can't blame anybody else for this. College was a real struggle for me, but as long as I followed the rules and had decent grades, I was fine. If my grades were good, the college made sure that I could stay.
As for the term "African American," I and many other black Americans find the term insulting. We are Americans, not partial Americans and we have no allegiance nor interest in any other part of the world any more than anybody else does. We are proud to be Americans. I worshipped and worked with people who have escaped from other countries and have come here to have a better life. I thank God for them.

I am white and as hard as I try I can think of nothing that I should feel personally responsible for. None of my ancestors even immigrated to America until after slavery was abolished. Then they all settled in the North. So I have zero ancestral slave guilt. Maybe if some of them had gotten here earlier and settled further south things might have been different? But that's not what happened.

See this thing of white folks having to work just as hark as black folk is a recent thing. Back in the day YOU, with you medium blue collar education would have gotten the job and the black man would not. Your blue collar job would have eventually gotten to where you could buy a nice house, feed your family with a little left over to take them on a fairly nice vacation.
