This is probably more my worst take on your worst take lol: The characters in Assassin's Apprentice are pretty bad and dumb beyond credulity, I barely remember the story, but I hated that book and it's sequel with a passion. I will say it was really well-written. (DNF'd book #2.) Edit: I pretty much agree with the rest of your takes.
Malice (and Age of Myth goes on a list for me) are 2 of the worst books I've read in years. Worn out troupes , characters I wouldn't follow to a grocery store and that dialog ("Are you not loyal?!" "Well met!" "We shall see") . Justice of Kings *Everyone read this* Why did you leave out The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi and The Book That Wouldn't Burn? (*SFF fans need to read this).
This is the first time The Way of Edan has appeared in a tier ranking video, and it makes me very happy! I'm not sure if I'm breaking my self-imposed ban from commenting on UA-cam reviews, but I wanted to thank you for including WOE here. Cheers, Johan!
I'm glad you mentioned that scene in It and called it out. It was going to be among my favourite books until it went down that path. I wish I could see past it!
Glad to see Hobb on the top tier and I'm happy you gave Elantris a fair rating. I've heard the same thing from other readers that it's his weakest book but i actually thought it was really good. Of course I'm just starting to read Sanderson's work. I finished The Emperor's Soul last month and will be starting Mistborn soon.
I loved Red Rising but did not get on at all with Golden Son and Morning Star. I could not follow the constant battle scenes and found the self-righteous speeches so grating. Everyone else seems to have the opposite opinion to me though!
THANK YOU! I did not like Good Omens! 🙌 I also read Red Rising earlier this year and didn't really get where the high praise was coming from. To be fair though, I had preconceived ideas of what it was going to be like and it was not that at all. Plus it was getting to be a tough time in my personal life so that may have influenced the experience too. I'm willing to give it another try though.
Please please, please, read the second book, it will be a complete 180 for you. I’ve read so much fantasy and sci-fi, and these are truly a step above the rest. I’m sure if you really want to help find fault with them. But I haven’t. 🙈
Glad I am not the only one that didn't enjoy Good Omens haha! Sorry you struggled with Red Rising! I am basically expecting to enjoy book 2 and 3 A LOT so hopefully that happens!
I swear I'm the only one who didn't really care for Legends and Lattes. It was okay, but I did struggle to get through it. I can't put my finger on exactly why, as it should be something I loved. I do disagree with your opinion on Good Omens but I adore Sir Terry Pratchett and his humor and also love Neil Gaiman. I will say I think the TV show is even better, which is rare.
Read until book 4 in Cradle and then decide. I binged Cradle up to book 10 (11 was not published yet at the time) and i struggled to get through the first two books, when book 3 was more to my liking and book 4 just gripped me hard. I totally agree on Good Omens btw. And i have to confess that I DNF Mistborn twice already (both times book 1), although i really enjoyed The Way of Kings
For the first half of this video, I was thinking I don't agree with you at all. But actually, apart from moving Elantris and Tress up a tier, I've got to say I think you're spot on!!
Love these. It has inspired me to make a video on all the series I have to catch up. I am gonna call it reading my way to the poorhouse. Ahhhhh sooo many amazing things I have missed. Thanks as always.
Assassins apprentice was painfull for me Prose makes the reading hard I didnt like character as much as i shouldve And its really boring and slow Dissapoitment
I agree with everything you said. Someone gave me all of her Robin Hobb books and they sat on my shelves for years. I tried and just couldn't do it. I was bored out of my mind. They all went to my local used bookstore.
I just flat out did not like Fitz, at all. I kept thinking, "If you could make at least ONE right decision your life would be so much happier." If I can't root for your main character you've lost me.
I love Neil Gaiman but honestly I was also not able to finish Good Omens. I found it a bit too quirky and dry for my taste. Maybe it's the Terry Pratchett influence here which is not my cup of tea. So I kind of see where you are coming from.
I'm generally not a proponent of 'trust me, just read the next five books, it's going to get good eventually' but for Cradle, I really do think that the first two books are the definitive low points in the series. I think most fans would agree that if you're at all intrigued by the concept, you should read up to and including the third instalment. If you don't like it by then, you never will. (Because while the core concepts only get better with time, they don't really change). But since you admit that you might just not care for the progression aspect, I believe that would be a waste of your time. It pains me to say that because frankly, Cradle's one of my favourite series of all time but well, we've all got different tastes! PS. People seem to be disappointed with you because of your opinion on Red Rising. Honestly, I didn't find that first book to be particularly special either. Think I gave it a 3 star on goodreads. However, book 2 and 3 are so fucking good, I can almost guarantee you will not be disappointed!
Hello, could you give me advice? I've got free audiobook by Robin Hobb( Forest Mage), but is is 2nd in Soldier's son series. I'm not going to buy 1st book, so will it be enjoyable if I read chapter summaries of 1st book to get the hang and then listen to the full 2nd book, or I won't get the hang of characters, world...?
I just don’t understand the obsession with Dandelion Dynasty. I only made it about 300 pages through and it was just awful imo. Easiest DNF I’ve ever done.
My friend, I cannot put into words how off you are about Red Rising! So disappointed and baffled by your opinion! I consider myself somewhat of a book snob and even I rate the Red Rising series in my top of all time. Up there with Tolkien, Hobb, Sanderson, Gwynne, Abercrombie, etc. This series is top three of all time for me. I'm can't say which spot because I don't rank my top three, because, well, I can't lol. And I don't agree with the comparison with Hunger Games. It's nothing like that series. For example, in Red Rising the whole Institute part is basically a military boot camp where they weed out the weak and gauge their strengths to determine where they'll best fit into society. It's basically an insignificant blip within the scope of the whole series. That's not what Hunger Games was about. Now I will give you that the first book isn't as good as the rest, but that's not a negative because each successive book gets better and better. It's like saying a Lamborghini isn't as good as a Bugatti. I just finished Dark Age and I am anxiously waiting for Light Bringer. This is the only series I've ever read straight through. It's also the only trilogy I've ever given 5 stars to each book. My advice is to keep reading. As of right now Pierce Brown is the most talented writer I've ever read, dethroning Sanderson and Hobb (Tolkien is In a tier by himself and protected 😛) Anyway, love your channel! Now go read Golden Son!
He's only read and spoken about book 1, which objectively is very average on a first read. I'm sure as the rest of us from book 2 onwards he'll be loving it
@@libraryofaviking Sorry if that came harsher than what i intended. I just realized in this video I hate Robin Hobb's writing style and I prefer Pierce Brown's character driven books. My thoughts exactly about Elantris, I went into it with kind of low expectations too but it was surprisingly good.
