I have discovered several engines over the years that had lower engine noise, and it had turned out to be the vibration damper pulley, or a crack in the flywheel. Heck we even had a 455 Buick once that was knocking because the previous owner dented the oil pan with a floor Jack..
Yes YES what is the cylinder presser it may be time the nice part is that the bearings can be replaced along with the oil pump and this is a lot cheaper then reworking the hole thing and this will give GOOD reslates and the time to gather up the money for the rebuild in a year or so
At 200,000 miles your oil pressure should be higher than that. You may want to try 3 OCI of Mobil 1 HIGH MILEAGE 10w40 at 3K each, and then re-evaluate situation....Is this burning or leaking?
Most people don't know that low oil pressure on the 4.0 is caused by worn out cam bearing, if the gauge and sensor prove good, the next place to look is cam bearings.
My 2000 XJ wjth 177k stays around 10-13psi cold or warm and never moves when operating. Gonna try a seafoam treatment, oil change and the sensor. Fingers crossed.

Great video man. I have an issues with my 2000 XJ. Runs good but just like this once warmed up oil pressure drops to right above 0. But once you start driving again it builds back up and the check gauges light goes off. So I tried to swap the sensor and my car went from a smooth idle to a really rough and tumble idle and sounded really bad plus the check gauges light remained on. So I put the old sensor back on and it ran smooth again despite check gauges light coming on when idle. Not sure. The sensor on here looks the same except a slight difference from all the other videos I’ve seen. Not sure how I should approach this situation
I don’t get mine it has been dropping to zero even after complete oil change.. the first time I did it myself and put thicker oil and it didn’t do it for a long time.. but I can let the Jeep idle for 30 minutes with air conditioner running and it stays at the line before 40 never drops.. but when I drive it for awhile it only drops at the stop light until I accelerate. I thought maybe bad oil sending unit but it works just while running and parked in my driveway.. the oil pump has to be working because the engine sounds fine for a 97 Jeep grand Cherokee 6L.. I’m lost of what to do.. The oil changing place put in 10w 30 but seems it only does it while I drive them stop if I go no where it runs fine..
Hey big guy, so i havea 2002 Cherokee Laredo 4.0 and im dealing with an oil pressure issue as well. 🤦♂️🤦♂️ so when i first start it u the pressure will stay at the normal pressure but after running for 15-20 min the pressure will gradually start to drop. I have changed everything dealing with the oil except i haven't changed theoil pump out and im hoping to fix this issue with out replacing the pump.....did you figure out what was going on with your trucks issue...hope ya can help and thanks for posting! 👍
i just changed the oil pump and sensor after constantly having 0 oil pressure ( max 20 oil pressure on cold starts ) now my cold start oil pressure is about 50psi but soon drops off after warming up. When hot , idle oil pressure is 10, it never goes lower, and maintains around 30-35 psi with highway driving. I think that’s just the maximum oil pressure that can be achieved since my 4.0 has 220k miles… i think the oil pressure would be better if i changed the pump sooner because it ran way too long on almost 0 oil pressure even at 2k+rpm. regardless the oil pressure is never at check gauges anymore. i always have oil pressure so i guess that’s all that matters lol, i’ll prob rebuild it after another 50k miles
I though that my 2000 Cherokee was not giving me correct readings. Put on manual gauge no oil press. bought an exchange engine from a local rebuilder installed the motor and the same exact thing, no oil press. Rebuilder says I installed it wrong?
Mine is up to 45-50 while driving and drops down between 20-30 when hot… made me nervous but seeing this makes me think it’s not too bad… 246k… already replaced the sensor…
Any update on what is up with it? I’ve got almost the same issue. Cold start 50 psi and after driving for awhile it idles at 0 psi but doesn’t make any odd sounds. It has a new sensor/aftermarket one. Oil pump and I dropped the oil pan and cleaned up the pan also
@@ohvcentral9400 so I actually replaced my pump and pick up tube. It was completely gunked up. I did that and it worked better but still would do it. What I did after that is put a fitting on the oil pressure sensor hole and ran the truck for a couple seconds and revved it some and put it back together. I haven’t really had no oil pressure issues after that.
I just did an overhaul on my xj 4.0 new oil pump/new oil sending unit/fresh oil/new oil filter/new lifters. and I'm still having this kind of problem with the gage can anyone can help me with this problem 😔
Thank you for being so thorough with your explanations. You covered everything my jeep was doing perfectly.
Thanks for sharing !
my 92 dropped to 20 all the time, my 01 does it too, seem like a Jeep thing you are diligent to check it, good for you

Thanks, just what I figured with my 6 cal Jeep. Had the same problem with my GMC diesel with the same fix. Thanks again.
🤘
Next oil change drop the oil pan and replace the oil pump it should help with pressure

Ok, best approach yet. Stepped through the symptoms, and the test, then the repair. Nice.
🤔 finally found a video explaining the normal oil pressure ranges on the 4.0s. 👍
Totally forgot I made this video, lol. 👍

Drive it till it dies. Then install another 4.0. These are so cheap & easy to rebuild.
That's what I'm doing. Still waiting to need a new engine, going on 12 years.

Thanks for the info. This is happening to my stock 98 GC 5.9, now I know my guess might be right. Time to go pressure test.
Thanks for simple explanation
Thanks

I've heard that using diesel oil may help, any thoughts? Perhaps a future video?
Used that in a vic with very little lol pressure and helped
Yeah it helps clean up the sludge build up. But I wouldn’t recommend using it often because it causes the oil to lose its lubricating properties.
@@robertocruz1177 I think he meant using oils designed for diesel engines not diesel fuel
Thanks for the video. Did this work long term?

Thank you.
What about when you put the car in gear and your foot on the brake what is the oil pressure then
So it’s normal for the pressure gauge to sit on the lower side while at idle? And it’s normal for it to be climbing up to 40?
Fixed? It should be in the middle at idle. I got a 2001 WJ 200k middle at idle.

mines is all the way to the right like its broken and it starts making a knocking noise i got 1996 jeep cherokee 4.0 4x4

My jeeps got 300 mi more and it does the exact same thing
Did you replace oil pump? It wasn't clear
Not OK.
Good news is, it’s not too late for rings and bearings… But don’t wait too long. Got
😆
Minimum specs are 13PSI at 210......37PSI at 1500 (hot)

Talk to the machinist that built the motor. Something is out of spec
Oil clearances
About to send a rod at any moment.
dont use fram oil filters they are so bad
I guess
? Idling at 10 PSI? Think you may have an oil pump problem dude
Oh yeah,
10 psi per thousand rpms at idle hot is considered acceptable.
Either that or his bearing clearances are to high due to wear.
10? Its 15 psi bro
Oil pressure testing... with a tool. Come on Donny, anybody can do it with a tool.
I wouldn't put too much money in that engine😁😁😁
I dig a little deeper into this thing later. 😨
Worth every penny FOH 😁
Nice
