Here are my issues with the prologue of Roze of the Recapture and why Lelouch of the Rebellion did it much better.

To be honest prologue is okay but the reason Lelouch of the Rebellion did better is because it's welcome to the current world that we come to know, but Roze prologue is welcoming you back so Thier isn't much information you need to know beside what happened in R2
So chronologically Roze of Recapture set around 2023-2024 ?
While the OG Code Geass had a lot of action, it is phsycological/philosopical series at heart which is why it is often pitted against Death Note. The sequels literally forgot that. Proof of this is that all the sequels lack the inner monologues of the characters which were iconic parts of the original series. We literally have no idea what goes on inside the character's head unless they say it.
Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion will always be one of the greatest animes ever made
One thing i noticed from this second episode is the way they tried to shove emotional segments like we had some sort of connection to these characters (like when sakuya reunites with sakura,). it felt too forced and disconnected with the audience. (also this seems really weird as a continuation to Resurrection and the hopeful note the film ended with)
which hopeful note Resurrection tells you the Geass fragments have spread throughout the world, and that peace doesn't last forever because of human nature
Just a minor correction: They didn't reconquer Japan in Roze., they specifically conquered the northern, largest island Hokkaido. The rest of the United States of Japan is still free.
That said, you're pretty right. The pamphlet thing is particularly annoying. Apparently, the pamphlet explains how the wall works and keeps the technology level in this series lowered to the standards of R1, which is just bad writing to begin with. It would've been easy to actually show this just in the first episode, but they didn't. Even in the second episode where they show the wall disable an attacking KnightMare, it's just a regular knightmare, not a float unit type.
As for the differences between the Principality and Republic of Britannia, if I were to hazard a guess, since Britannia broke up into smaller nations they could be separate countries. You would have the Principality of Britnania under empress Nunally, and the Republic of Britannia under Schenizel. Although since UFN votes are given by population of the members, they might actually be broken up even further than this.
So this may be just me but it feels like this new series is rehashing similar plot points of the original without understanding why it worked for the main series.
That depends on how it was made or not, this sequel is to attract other fans who did not see the original part of the anime and are basically like trying to explain it or do it. Basically the same as the original anime and they hardly show much over the years how that world changed, who knows, possibly the director only considers it another spin-off and it's not that the The creator of the franchise still cares a lot, which of course depends on why this anime follows the same paths as the Boruto series, Pokémon Horizons and the Percival series and that is what Tried this to be a success but it is better to do it in fanfic than on the big screen since many fans never like the change of protagonist and this series can suffer the same thing is how the It's like the topic of AI and artists who don't get along at all because the artists are afraid that AI will replace them, it's still out of context but sometimes it happens like that with well-known anime With successors but in the first chapter something explained to us what happened in the world but not enough but there are only two chapters we have to see How the thing develops may surprise us for something it is in the world of code geas
I'm also creating a fanfic about this, only well executed and with a decent protagonist worthy of being the successor of him With his own past, motivations and compassion, of course you don't like that, plus he is a direct descendant of Suzaku He deuteragonista From the code geas series I would invite you to see it but it's not finished yet so good even though you're not much into fanfics I imagined
Another thing that feels jarring is that the entire purpose of Lelouch’s story is tossed to the curb for Britannia to just somehow come back with no further explanation or real transition to ease into it…

They chose the worst place to take 😅. In the middle of all the major countries with significant influences. If it were me, go for australia, New zealand, or other southern South Pacific countries like indonesia. Or imagine a african britiania, but of course they had to choose japan.

I think this sequel was build for someone like me, someone who enjoys the Death Note-like chess level cat and mouse game, but isn’t expecting the same formula for the sequel, since my main priority is the story itself. The question that must be answered was what happened to the main casts, what is the state of the world, was Lelouch’s sacrifice worth it, etc?
Although I’m having a hard time swallowing this simply because it follows the movie timeline, where Shirley lives. I actually like the original where she dies since it’s an incredible traumatizing moment to Lelouch that help made him into the man he is.
Don't worry we got more than 5 times the fanservice which makes up for the lack of material 😂

So far after watching two ep of the ona I am in the firm belief that this was a cash grab. One The story just dose not make sense from watching the two ep maybe it will explain more later but like you said it dose not tell us how they are able to accomplish taking over hapkido and how the black knights could not win. If this takes place after resurrection at the end lelouch states that he will be around to fix the world if things go away from what he wanted but again has not acted. So to me has to many plot holes for it to be a actual serries just a cash grab to make money off the name
The cash grab criticism is always very silly to me, because almost no anime in history is made for charity's sake. I'd say the internal story makes reasonable sense at this point. People are sometimes tripping all over themselves by trying to connect with the previous events, off-screen, which something very different. What they're actually showing is rather straightforward.
Its unfortunate that Roze of the Recapture will only have 12 episodes. This is the downside to having limited time to tell a compelling story. I believe if RotR ran the same 25 episode standard, then this show would be more flushed out and it wouldnt feel rushed as it does.
At this rate though, Roze is falling behind Akito the Exiled with Lelouch of the Rebellion of course being in the top spot.
I didn't have any issues with Akito the Exiled except the creepy romance plot with Lelia and Akito as well as the magical time travel shown in the last film.
and somehow it's doing good in Japan so I wouldn't worry about it. Global fanbase is just more toxic than Japanese one
One of the things I love the most in Code Geass original series is the characters design and THE CLOTHES. They are insanely well made haha I love the outfits in the series
We didn’t know most of the character’s backstory in the first episodes of the original Code geass either. Most of these critiques (including a few on Reddit) seem extremely shallow and vain, people complaining because “the og did it better!” When…when we have barely two episodes. And with all of the spoilers, all of the discussion I still can understand what you people want? Making sequels it’s extremely hard, because taking things on “new directions” or expanding what was already there takes a lot of desicions.
And I repeat, this-is-a-sequel. If you don’t know nothing about Code Geass the first twist of chapter one doesn’t have any shock, because you wouldn’t about the sumeragi familiy. You wouldn’t understand the setting that’s introduced in the first lines. And it is Interesting, the remanent of an aristocratic society that wants to “recover” it’s glory, but if you watched Code Geass you can see that this is barely a shadow of what Britannia used to be.
@@ElessarFrey , the way you fix the problems you and this UA-camr mentioned is by setting the setting in a different place than Japan like the Akito films did, and it being placed in Australia, Africa, or anywhere in the world that isn't the Americas, Europe, and Asia, but since it didn't there's gapping plot holes that is fixed if you live in Japan and own Japanese pamphlets, which neither Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Star Wars does, so I'm dropping this series for good.

Well it's makes sense to me that would explained to stab in the back myth theories on why they back and they will continue like metal gear solid with 1880s meets gundam meets legend of galactic heroes with plot twists
I'm on episode 2 and I already found odd things with the plot like on episode two, howcome the white queen didn't bother killing Roze when she was trying to rescue Sakuya. It feels like a lot of resources are wasted with this new "season" of Code Geass.
This might have been better if they didn't skipped too far from the timeline.
Good video. But so far, I have watched the 1st 2 episodes of the series. Maybe when we see more, we can determine whether or not Roze of the Recapture is a good sequel series of Code Geass.
My take on this is that the staff preferes to hook the audience doing a very low "show and tell" and use the mistery around it to build the rest for the premise instead of going with more detailed explanations to the prologue.
In my opinión Roze is not being worked as a AAA anime project scale and thats holding the brakes for the series development and thanks to that many details are irking many viewers.
Our questions to the series are like:
"How Neo Britania get a hold on Hokkaido?" Instead of "who or why someone decided to support the conquest of Hokkaido for neo Britania?
And thats changed dramaticallu how could public Will previece the plot.

Worldbuliding - absolutely correct. Watching Code Geass as a preteen it has been my favorite anime ever since because every time I rewatched it I would notice something new about its worldbuilding - I recall in one of my rewatches I saw a girl whose house was being bombed cry and she had a backpack, and herbackpack was open and there were wires inside it. Made me wonder: what's this? Are they the eleven resistance or do they live with this much technology? It's the small stuff like this. We miss that

Valid opinion but I still kinda like it. The twist when sakuya actually has the plot to kill ash, the way she got her geass, the brutality. The original twists of code geass is still there and im loving it. We have to take note that we still have 4 episodes and that this is a sequel, there's no explaining needed for a world that has been introduced in the early movies or series
Yes, good explanation, but you are not taking into consideration the fact that this…is a sequel.
This is not an introduction to the code geass universe, this is a sequel of an already stablished world with it’s own events. Most people are not gonna take their first step into this world with this series. The main target for this are the already stablished fans. The same way you won’t go watch Z Gundam without watching UC first.
Someone who’s never watched Code geass won’t be surprised or intrigued by the few lines of chapter one because he doesn’t really know what they are talking about, what those words imply.

In the bullshit plot contrivance ridden pamphlet that was handed out to japanese moviegoers, it said there just was a backup Damocles and FLEIJA warheads built, and Norland just picks it up (Presumably from Cambodia, as that was where the first Damocles was built).
Now, you might remember Schniezel VERY EXPLICITLY saying that he'd need to have another Damocles built after he intended for the first one to self destruct. You may also remember that his buddy (Kanon, I think was his name) pointed out that the Damocles was absurdly resource intensive and it just wasn't feasible for the Toromo Institute. Schniezel hand waved that it'd work out cuz of how universally hated Emperor Lelouch was.
Zero Requiem happened, and Schniezel, the one who would ABSOLUTELY have known about a second Damocles, was geassed into working for Zero.
How does this established canon allow for the second Damocles showing up?

Side note: Apparently, Schniezel actually having a secret second Damocles armed with FLEIJAs is a plotline in the Code Geass Lost Stories gacha game. Make of that what you will.
For me, code geass ended at the last episodes of season 2, every thing else just things from parallel worlds.

Got it, I ain't gonna watch this, the explanations on this plot holes will be so basic and predictable it won't even be funny to say "obviously", they'll either have Schneizel pull a palpatine by secretly being the leader of neo britannia or (even worse) do a "Somehow Emperor Charles returned"...

Wrong! The sequel is not about him anymore. Hence his name was removed from the title. But Lelouch still exists in this timeline.
Can't agree with you in this respect. I care more about characters than about worldbuilding. I could come up with my own explanations and arguments, both for and against the particulars, but I just don't think there is an obligation to spend a ton of more time on this subject.
But at that point then you are inventing head canon, if the world isn't properly established then actions of the characters are pointless.
@@MyMediaChops Tokyo Ghoul has terrible world building, they literally never mention a country besides japan despite the concept of ghouls being something that would be a world wide problem. None the less Tokyo Ghoul is considered amazing. At the end of the day what matters most is characters and story.
@@theyfwsam2046 Tokyo Ghoul is garbage. Some of the first few episodes were okay but it got garbage after that. I agree with both you and mymedia though. Code Geass's world building was amazing. Sakuya and Ash are looking like good characters with the little we have seen of them but the world building hasn't been done properly yet. The writing is good in Roze currently but the world feels really lacking since we haven't seen any of the black knights or schneizel doing anything which makes no sense since even if the wall stopped the black knights doing an all out attack, Schneizel is the second smartest person in the verse after Lelouch plus Cornelia is also very tactical and smart they can definitely send some agents on a stealth mission to collect information just like the zilkstan thing or figure out some other plan. Roze is pretty good currently but it needs to address these issues with its worldbuilding since a lot of the things in Roze's world feels weird or wrong currently since it doesn't make much sense comparing to the world established at the end of Code Geass.
@@MyMediaChops Really? I would not agree. It would be a matter of how you choose to view anime. Especially when we're talking about worldbuilding in connection to a previous series, rather than what parts are necessary to cover or more directly related to what is actually going on right now. All the same, there are series with excellent worldbuilding yet uninteresting characters, so those aspects are not always together.
@MyMediaChops I mean not arguing against points here or anything, but the majority of Code Geass is purposefully left to head canon. They loved how people were coming up with ideas for the world, but would never confirm nor deny it.

I agree on Sakuya generally a perfectly fine character. She's cut from a different cloth from Lelouch, having her own reasons for failure, ambitions, and character traits. People say she's "weaker" as a character than Lelouch.
Which is accurate, but that's not really a neg on her being a bad character.
It's just unfortunate that the setting the character is in is a dumpster fire in terms of both its writing and story.
Norland though, that right there is a bad character. Especially when you learn his whole deal in the last act of the show.

This series ain't it! 😅 I'm pretty disappointed to be honest this way worse then Akito and the other side stories even, I think this cause director and writer changes honestly. Not fan Sakuya so far either she's just too much a wannbe Imo plus I just how thier trying force her plot on us!
Sakuya is just a shitty knockoff of Akito and Lelouch, and even in the current episode she's nowhere near as good as those two are.

Also maybe it isn't for you, but it's doing really well in Japan which is their main audience. If an Anime or Manga does well in Japan it will most likely continue, if it does well globally but badly in Japan, it won't.
It's doing well in Japan that's what matters the most.
You guys sound like the Pokemon fans that complain about Horizons not having Ash and guess what currently it's doing better than the latest Ash series in Japan, and it's also doing really well globally.
