Testing the FreedConn R1 Plus Motorcycle Headset Camera while commuting on the Honda ADV150

- This is a test of the Freedconn R1 Plus helmet communication system with a built in 1080 HD camera. I decided to try it out on my commute home from work as I rode from Orange County NY to Sussex County NJ. The video is just as it was recorded. There’s no color correction or filters. The only thing I did was speed up the video to keep the video shorter. The original audio was unusable so I had to do this with a voice over.

Right away I noticed the stability quality, but an interesting concept. This product is probably not designed for someone needing high-end video, but for communicating with other riders with the added video recording for safety I'm assuming. Everything has it's purpose. Thanks for posting this.
This was the first version of this comm system. It's basically an inexpensive copy of one produced by Sena. The Sena version is like $400 and the FreedConn currently sells for $103. FreedConn is now on the 3rd generation which is supposed to be a major upgrade. I'm looking forward to testing that out soon.

That’s where the camera fails. It doesn’t have the stabilization of a GoPro. It’s more about the convenience of having the camera built into the comm system. I plan on using it as a secondary camera.
@@adventurefifty any experience with Soman/Maxto M3? Seems its using a Sony lens/sensor with some form of stabilisation.

You could try putting a physical polaroid filter over the lens to improve bright sunlight images.

@@adventurefifty thank you, look forward to your next review. If they sort that issue out I'll likely buy it. I used to use the older standard freedconn. Very impressed for the money which is why I'm interested in the camera version. No good though if no mic recording
thanks for the video. I'm experiencing some problems with the audio recording as well. From the seller that I've got this from, they said that the mic should record the voice of the rider during video recording as well! However after many testing done, I'm still unable to get it to work.. But I guess like you've shared, Freedconn has updated the MIC to only capture noises around the mic which is totally not usable.

It doesn’t record audio from the in helmet mic. Only from the external mic on the camera. That results in just unusable noise. Overall I still think it’s a good option as a secondary camera or for someone on a budget who wants a comm system and a camera.
I just got one of these brand new from Amazon for $70 can't beat that price.

Maaaaan! I've been watching a few of these review videos and thinking, the camera quality is trash, Just realized I had my youtube video settings on 360p the whole time lol.
have you looked at your settings in the app ? mine is a lot clearer i have it set to fhd and wdr is on , when watching through the app it does look like this , but if you download from the app to your phone you get a very clear picture

The mic DOES record audio.
Not on this version of the FreedConn. It does on the newer version which I will be posting a video of very soon.
Why the sound is so bad? Did you put the mic on the outside of your helmet?
No. The boom mic is inside my helmet but that’s only for the phone and intercom. The noise you’re hearing is the camera’s mic. They’re separate. On this version of the camera you can’t do voice recording on the video.
Does the sound recording is good?
The sound is horrendous.

It can be set on the app if I’m not mistaken.
i got it 2 but i hate the mic when i record a video the sound is just awful is there a way we can rebound that ?

You missed out most important parts! Battery ! How long can it last with video recording? And how does it last with FM radio on
I honestly haven’t run out of battery life because my rides have been generally about an hour or so. I’ve seen other folks claim 90 minutes but I can’t say. I don’t use the radio at all. I usually listen to music via Bluetooth.
