I am so tempted to buy this car. It is so cheap, but every second you're driving around you are only thinking "please God don't let this break today" lol.
The ONLY problem with this car is, once you have owned one (I currently have a 2007), there is almost nowhere else to go. I agree that if you are worried about cost, don't get one, but if you have never driven one, you really don't know how to make a comparison with anything else.
LOL whats up with all the cheap S-Class videos dropping today? These cars are the business! This car is missing one of its intake ducts and the front part of the engine cover!
Oddly enough we sell that at the auto parts store I work at. I think I've sold at most two liters of the stuff in five years. Both times the customer thought the price was some kind of plot against them personally. Ironically, a lot of Mercedes and BMW owners are cheap fucks, always looking for a cheaper substitute for the correct fluid, filter, or other parts...
The really awesome thing about these older S600s is that now that they've trickled down into the far lower price bracket, cheap replacement parts are readily available for much less than the dealer would quote you.
My channel started blowing up when I got a w220 2001 s600 for $1600 at IAAI. Now I won a w221 08 s63 for $6000 from Copart and I couldn’t agree with you more. The difference between the 220 and 221 is insane!! Thanks for the video 3 years later.
Your videos inspired me to get my 04 s600 with 72k. Only I paid $11,000 not $1,600 😅 luckily it passed full inspection at the dealer, and only has a small leak in each corner for the abc. I’ll have to try the hydraulic leak stopper you used to see if it holds off haha
I had 2 new M-Bs in succession. Both were ridiculously unreliable despite dealer maintenance and good techs. One day a M-B "master" tech. who I thought was especially smart and who had a very low opinion of M-B "quality", said that he had had a chance to do timing belt replacement on a friend's LS400. He thought it was a very impressive car and suggested that I look at one. I ditched the M-Bs and bought an LS400. I still have it after almost 20 years!! It remains a joy to drive and to own.
Look at you today!! Here I am with my new s class watching your videos, and now you have a massive channel, CarTrek, and a new Benz of your own. Happy New Year man!!
Yes, please get this one. This is literally THE BEST car you can get for the cheapest, although to maintain it, I believe it would be pretty hard, however I think it is worth it. I dont know about the mods tho, cuz I think that this car should stay with its original look, atleast really close to it :)
True, this W221 S600 is becoming a bargain, but if you're an extreme cheapskate like me, the W220 S600 is even more of a bargain, with many examples available under $10k!
Awesome link to Turo! Never heard of them before, Dutch guy here with travel plans to the US. Was searching for a convertible in the LAX area, Hertz etc charge up to $100/day for a car, same car on Turo $50!
Gotta say Tavarish, you're videos are very professional looking. If I didn't know better I'd say you had a whole production and editing team behind you. And this is the best episode I've watched so far. Keep up the great work, it's very entertaining. Big up from the UK.
Although used, I've owned 116, 126, 140, and now own a 220, right now looking to switch for a 2012 S600 black on black, if available near Cocoa Beach, Fl. Fabulous autos, I did not use them as daily drivers, however. Bought them to wash them, shine them, you know how it is. Hehehe
I would agree that an S600 should be in your future. But I would finish your S class first. It was looking so good with your new look. I'd also be curious to see what you sell it for and how much you have in it. Profit maybe?
My Air shocks went out in my S55 AMG so I has Spring coils made from a specialist place in Raliegh NC 4 were about $1100 and they also sent the by- pass switch for the light, currently bought to get a 2013 S600 with 120K for about $12000 over here in Busan Korea.
Great that you showcase these awesome engineered cars, for ever I felt like in auto world Mercedes was almost hated and mostly write off by most. Yes you should get one, W220 would be even cheaper
My favorite W221 color by far, my S550 is the same Andorite Gray. I kinda wish I got the 600, but then the repair costs of the ABC suspension turns me right back to the 550. Also, where's the intake on the car, the cover and tubing seems to be missing on that specific one.
YES! Ditch the W220 and get a W221. I owned a W220 when it was the current shape, and loved it. The difference between that and the newer generation is huge. I don't think you should get Hoovies s600. You should see if you can find one that needs work. Even an S550 v8. I'd be fascinated seeing the fixes.
The motor mounts are also prone to failure due to heat and you have to drop the engine to get acess. Also turbos are packed tight and if a turbo fails it needs to be dropped
Super machine, anyone who thinks the Merc breaks on sight hasn't owned one. Yes when they do it is bad but they hardly do when maintained properly; I'm talking from experience of owning 6 of which 2 I still have. I'd take this if I could get a good one, no doubt
A 2007 s65 AMG would be even more unique - looking at it from a business value standpoint of UA-cam views. Either way I vote upgrading to the 2007 s600 or the s65 - take it to the next level!
I had a S600 before. The expensive repair and maintenance on the coil packs and ABC systems are total nightmare. The V12 drinks half tank for going just around 40 miles. If I have a chance to get another S class, I will go for the S63 or C63 for sure.
very very nice but with all those moving extra features/parts comes the repair bill when then privacy shade glass stops sliding or something else electrical has a malfunction. Cool car but not practical. Nevermind if something mechanical goes wrong. It'll more than likely cost more to repair than the car is worth.
I love these old top of the line Benzes with big power as much as anyone! I just sold my Renntech CL600TT and am about to sell my Renntech SL55 (both Designo cars). They have been fabulous cars and fun to drive for a long time, but before the maintenance catches up to them I am passing them on down the road. These cars have depreciated so much that they are very cheap to buy but the fact remains that just because many folks can afford to buy them now does not necessarily mean that they can afford to own and maintain them. I (and you) are handy and resourceful enough to do many of the repairs ourselves but for those who must pay to have the cars repaired the cost of maintenance can quickly and easily become too much relative to the value of the car. Even with free labor the parts prices alone are quite significant. As you stated, these cars were well into 6 figures when new, and we must remember that these cars do not know that they have depreciated down to Honda Civic levels of value. Same goes for the parts prices! Big fun and big power, but it is wise for potential buyers to be prepared because sooner or later eventually the big maintenance costs will come.
Dude that was so funny when you said your w221 was the best s class ever made, besides the one that came after it and all the ones that came before it. It was like you were reading my mind!!!
w140 and the first gen is the best looking s-class, have had 560sel, w140, w220 and w221 in the family and my personal favorit is still w140, Atm i drive the w220 and i cant say why but the exterior isnt that bossy as the other ones,
I normally love videos like this but i have personal experince with an s600 of this generatiom. This is actually terrible advice, my parents owned an s600 that we sold 2 years because it it 100k miles, I have service records for an enormous amount of work done with includes the power steering pump blowing up 4 times, the transmission was replaced twice at a cost of 9k each, the airmatic suspension went out multiple times, etc. Not only so but the car must follow amg service procedures including diff flushes as well as taking almost 10 quarts of oil, it also has 24 spark plugs... I can go on however my advice is get an s550 with all the options ticked, it will be quick enough and have fewer problems however it will have some. We sold it for a little over 25k but if I total up all the work done to the car it had more than 40k worth of repairs and maintenance done to it in 7 years and letting problems on these cars add up is just a disgrace so if you can't diy and afford expensive parts then stay clear of the w221.
The 600's are awesome! I actually went down to FL to buy an S600 (08), but it was in horrible shape so that didn't happen 😢 Looked at some in Chicago with no luck either, so wound up just getting an 08 S550 4Matic, but it is fully loaded at least. Love my S Class, but recently realized my V12 dream by getting an SL600 with the rare AMG body kit (I have some videos on my AutoAddict channel). It's got some issues, unfortunately, so I'm not getting all my V12ness out of it. I have no repair experience but will be trying to fix everything myself, so wish me luck. 🤞 This S600 is still definitely my dream/goal. Awesome car!
This is a very interesting way to get vehicles to make videos about! Did you have to get permission from the owner to film the car? I'm wondering if I can do this too since we're having trouble getting cars to film.
Go for it Bro. It’s a great car. Sure some things will be more expensive than a Honda. But you got a completely different animal and you will enjoy it.
Another great video, I love your enthusiasm and attitude. You have made me want to buy an Aston Martin and an SL at the same time! This car is beautiful and what a price! Keep up the great work ditch the haters you are going to have a huge following!
The bad part about the v12 is as soon as a turbo blows the car is totaled just on the repair cost lol that's why I'm leaning towards an e55 or s55 kompressor.
I think the reason why this car is still operational is due to the ENGINE in which MB tends to place the peak torque curve at the lower rpm so the engine does not need to rev as high as, say, a BMW 7-Series. That's why we see more 15 year old S-Class cars than 7-Series of the same age. Revving higher means that all of the components such as the spark plugs, oil pump, etc would erode faster per mile. So, yes, you should get the W221 S600 from someone like Hoovies Garage who would want to sell it because he doesn't to be as DIY as you. I think that would actually up your view ratings.
What happen to the SL55 ? I envy you have the skills and mindset to repair cars yourself. As I don't have such skills, it is a pity I can't buy these beautiful low cost second hand cars as it will costs me thousand to send it to the dealer.
i had a set of those rims on my w210. very heavy but very strong. as the usual with mercedes, you get what you pay for. .. seeing as i bought a w210, i get a lot of rust.
Registration in my state is by weight, so it's probably around 400 bucks plus 6 percent sales tax for the initial cost, then about $40 bucks registration every year after that.
I think you should keep the S Classyou already have. You made it such a big project and getting rid of it would be a slap to the face. Plus that new S Class may be even harder to maintain on your own. Lol but then again your Tavarish. You could figure that out easily.
Tavarish... 1. How are you liking Florida? I have lived here my whole life, it has it's ups and downs (mainly during the summer) but I love it. 2. I beg to differ, I think one of the best luxury buys you can get today is the Lexus LS400, I own one as a project car (modernization project), it's probably the most comfortable driving car I have ever had the pleasure to drive, it even beats my father's Mercedes C300 (2012).
I would agree. As much as a german car fan boy I am, the Lexus will have this S-class beat on price and overall maintenance repairs. This thing is so complicated, I'd rather a 7 series, which would at least be a better handling car than this as well. I'd say the E38 750iL is a huge bargain, but tough to find.
Jaguar V12 is the cheapest and best V12 you can get. You can pick them up for under £10k, And you can tune them up if you have the money to 700+ HP if you so desire.
3:38 When the dealer tells you how much its going to cost to fix your $8900 SL55 AMG
6:57 When you find out you can fix the problem for $25
Ali K 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💀💀💀
lmao
Ali K For real! 😂😂😂👍
😂
DUDE😭😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
WTF? No mention to the W140 when listing the other S Classes??
The W140 is LEGEND, bro.
Of course!
E34Benzin w140 is garbaaage looks so ugly and it looks like it's built like a chevy
General Pepe Rightwinger only people who like the w140 are rich people that went broke and are trying to hang to their prior old success in life.
The W140 looks like a big matchbox car.
E34Benzin the King☺!!!
I am so tempted to buy this car. It is so cheap, but every second you're driving around you are only thinking "please God don't let this break today" lol.
True🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have come to realize, of you can't afford the repairs you can't afford the car. Get the Honda or Toyota instead.
Just make sure it’s a 09 or newer
That is happening to me right now ...
What ever
This gen S-class has aged SO well it looks like it could be the current 2017 model.
TheRzarectah yeah, the design is even better than the current model, but the interior so shitty
Swear the 2007-2013 models are so beautiful compared the 14+ but if the made the 14 interior in the 07 body style I'd go crazy.
Even today, it has aged so well
I own a 05 S600 twin turbo W220 myself! She's a beauty! Can't beat them 💯
Yes definitely get the S600 if you can
Adrian Lawson what about s550
Claude Debussy. Yeah a S550 is cool
its the same chassis as the S600 but it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles as a S600 does
Jimmy Grant This is true.
Maurice Searcy Good to know I will definitely look into it. I currently own a W220 like Tavarish and yourself but i'm thinking about upgrading.
Maurice Searcy or if the mileage is low enough get a extended warranty...
Yup, I noticed that as well.
8:08 Why is it missing an intake pipe?
Cheap to buy expensive to repair...
My thoughts exactly. Visit the Middle East and find neglected Benzs everywhere.
Not if you fix it yourself and don’t get parts from the dealership.
Absolutely bro.
I have very chep deal to buy S350 CDI 2007 V6.
But so worried what if it break down!!!!
Chris M i hope you have all the Mercedes Benz special tool to fix it your self 😂
Not if you can do it yourself 😂 open a book stupid fucks 😂🔥
Where the hell is that plasti dipped Benz? You never did a proper reveal video. What about the cheap convertible? Does it still run? We need answers
All will be revealed soon
Tavarish hahahahah
BioHazard Shrimp str8 roast!😅
stop being scared of old benz, has one for 4 years, spent less than 2000 in repair
thus far.
Awesome bro!
Pentosin is a fluid/oil company, not a specific type of fluid.
You're right!
S11 is the product.
Oddly enough we sell that at the auto parts store I work at. I think I've sold at most two liters of the stuff in five years. Both times the customer thought the price was some kind of plot against them personally. Ironically, a lot of Mercedes and BMW owners are cheap fucks, always looking for a cheaper substitute for the correct fluid, filter, or other parts...
tempest411 Would you pay 5x more for the same fluid?
For the correct fluid, sure. My Audi uses something similar. I've had to add just a few ounces in ten years of driving it!
The really awesome thing about these older S600s is that now that they've trickled down into the far lower price bracket, cheap replacement parts are readily available for much less than the dealer would quote you.
In Scotty Kilmer voice YOU THINK YOU GOT A GOOD DEAL.
hehehe
Lmfao
My channel started blowing up when I got a w220 2001 s600 for $1600 at IAAI. Now I won a w221 08 s63 for $6000 from Copart and I couldn’t agree with you more. The difference between the 220 and 221 is insane!! Thanks for the video 3 years later.

Remember watching the review of this car on top gear 10 years ago. That night vision and it also had voice control. Car was so ahead of its time.
Far superior
@@bycracky22 26 yrs. now and still great.
Dude! Your video quality just keeps getting better and better!
Dammit Tavarish show us the Plasti Dipped S class! But seriously love this channel. Buying a CL55 AMG soon thanks to you
Look at you today!!
W140 (95-99 S Class) is legend, however I love this too, hell If I can pay off my current car I'll buy this lol
The quality of these videos is going through the roof. Nice work!
Gotta say Tavarish, you're videos are very professional looking. If I didn't know better I'd say you had a whole production and editing team behind you. And this is the best episode I've watched so far. Keep up the great work, it's very entertaining. Big up from the UK.
Buying one today, it's my first Mercedes ever and a V12. Exactly in 20mins directly from the auction.
well im sold. fould an 07 s600 going for 13k. think i might see about maybe getting it.
If you get the S600 you should try straight pipe to experiment (sound)
Although used, I've owned 116, 126, 140, and now own a 220, right now looking to switch for a 2012 S600 black on black, if available near Cocoa Beach, Fl. Fabulous autos, I did not use them as daily drivers, however. Bought them to wash them, shine them, you know how it is. Hehehe
Its great to see how your filming has progressed from the selfie days. Well done
O yes please build that S600 this would be a awesome high performance Turing car that everyone could be comfortable in 👍👍
I would agree that an S600 should be in your future. But I would finish your S class first. It was looking so good with your new look. I'd also be curious to see what you sell it for and how much you have in it. Profit maybe?
Look at superspeed rob you might want that one
HyperBlueWRX was looking for this comment
Get the new S600!!. Keep up good work. Love your videos. Been a big fan of your content since the days of reading your stuff on Jalopnik
Is the check engine light included in that price?😂😂😂
My Air shocks went out in my S55 AMG so I has Spring coils made from a specialist place in Raliegh NC 4 were about $1100 and they also sent the by- pass switch for the light, currently bought to get a 2013 S600 with 120K for about $12000 over here in Busan Korea.
I am really loving this review series. I hope you do more and you get a lot more cool cars to review!
I say finish the current s class then get a W221 either a s550 4matic or the s63 or s65. They are great cars.
Give us more content on the SL55 :)
Great that you showcase these awesome engineered cars, for ever I felt like in auto world Mercedes was almost hated and mostly write off by most. Yes you should get one, W220 would be even cheaper
G55STEYR Isi
This was a fun and excellent review. I found on in Atlanta with 78,000 miles for $15,999. I'm checking it out... Oh it white with cream interior...
Get one. You love it.
My favorite W221 color by far, my S550 is the same Andorite Gray. I kinda wish I got the 600, but then the repair costs of the ABC suspension turns me right back to the 550. Also, where's the intake on the car, the cover and tubing seems to be missing on that specific one.
I love how stately it is. It's very understated. Which one is it?
If you want a diy w221 get the V8 i own one. You can do the mounts yourself and no abc or turbos to fail.
Why is the driver side intake hose missing?
It has a mode called dyno mode that it turns off every safety systems like traction control and it can do a burnout
Super machine, anyone who thinks the Merc breaks on sight hasn't owned one. Yes when they do it is bad but they hardly do when maintained properly; I'm talking from experience of owning 6 of which 2 I still have. I'd take this if I could get a good one, no doubt
That car is definitely Well kept...cheers to its owner !!
Let's just say if u had that s600 the Aston and the sl amg that's a stunning garage
9:10 anyone else notice part of the intake missing on the driver's side bank of cylinders? lol
I noticed that too.
A 2007 s65 AMG would be even more unique - looking at it from a business value standpoint of UA-cam views. Either way I vote upgrading to the 2007 s600 or the s65 - take it to the next level!
I like my Toyota and Lexus. 439k miles. 2000 es300. Runs like a champ
Just bought mine. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!
About to buy one for 8k with 82k miles. Have a 06 s430 4matic now and am super excited to see how the s600 drives
I had a S600 before. The expensive repair and maintenance on the coil packs and ABC systems are total nightmare. The V12 drinks half tank for going just around 40 miles. If I have a chance to get another S class, I will go for the S63 or C63 for sure.
What generation or date is the specific one showcased in the video?
What no mention of the active inflatable bolsters when the car goes around the corner that is one of the best features!
very very nice but with all those moving extra features/parts comes the repair bill when then privacy shade glass stops sliding or something else electrical has a malfunction. Cool car but not practical. Nevermind if something mechanical goes wrong. It'll more than likely cost more to repair than the car is worth.
I love these old top of the line Benzes with big power as much as anyone! I just sold my Renntech CL600TT and am about to sell my Renntech SL55 (both Designo cars). boost leak any 1? or is the drivers side intake supposed to be like that?????
side intake isn't supposed to be like that, I have no idea what the owner did. lol
Dude that was so funny when you said your w221 was the best s class ever made, besides the one that came after it and all the ones that came before it. It was like you were reading my mind!!!

I don't know tavarish - those cars are great when it's problem free. Maintenance cost is a downside . All parts and labor never depreciates .
I'm glad that while ur still making great videos u r also earning some more bucks, u deserve that bro.
Videos are getting better and better
This was a great review, nothing stupid and "i want to be funny all the time"....keep it up!!
Get it man. you gave us a good presentation, and your obviously all over it.
I love this S-class and i believe you really should consider it. it really is a steal if you can manage to find it at 16-19 k range.
I normally love videos like this but i have personal experince with an s600 of this generatiom. You rented the dude's car and now you're sitting on the hood with your jeans?! Nice. I'd never lend my car to you bro! That's rude.
Fluterra fuck em
Fluterra he bought the car
Omg sitting on the hood with jeans! What harm would that do?
SCRATCH THE PAINT!
Only if you have riveted jeans, otherwise, eh, not really
How to do that colour shade on the windshield? Looks cool
what causes the the windshield to look iridescent like that on Mercedes ?
the local mercedes dealership here won't even take any S on trade that is past warranty
I love the S600, badass car. You should definitely get one and try to get the amg version of it.
The 600's are awesome! I actually went down to FL to buy an S600 (08), but it was in horrible shape so that didn't happen 😢 Looked at some in Chicago with no luck either, so wound up just getting an 08 S550 4Matic, but it is fully loaded at least. Yes! S600 up NOW!
This is a very interesting way to get vehicles to make videos about! Did you have to get permission from the owner to film the car? I'm wondering if I can do this too since we're having trouble getting cars to film.
Funny you posted this, I saw someone else who posted a 2006 S65 AMG that they bought for $3750. You can get killer steals these days.
What's with all the negative comments, at least this guy does something, and not afraid to experiment!
Does the front also control the shades?
it does!
The bad part about the v12 is as soon as a turbo blows the car is totaled just on the repair cost lol that's why I'm leaning towards an e55 or s55 kompressor.

Do you know why the check engine light was on? Just curious...
Fede Master did anyone notice a left intake tube missing at 6:15
@6:10 your missing an air intake tube? lulz....... if it is turbo your blowing back right out that tube and not even using the 2nd turbo...
i had a set of those rims on my w210. very heavy but very strong. as the usual with mercedes, you get what you pay for. .. seeing as i bought a w210, i get a lot of rust.
what do u have to pay for it like yearly tax and whatever else?
Registration in my state is by weight, so it's probably around 400 bucks plus 6 percent sales tax for the initial cost, then about $40 bucks registration every year after that.
The output is 510 hp and 600lb of torque, and for that year is more powerful for high end racing applications, as the transmissions do come cheap.
How did you take this shot you used as a thumbnail please ? What lens did you use ? Very nice effect !
The thumbnail is actually a press pic.
Tavarish Ah lol ! I think I will try to reproduce it anyway.
I think you should keep the S Classyou already have. You made it such a big project and getting rid of it would be a slap to the face. Plus that new S Class may be even harder to maintain on your own. Lol but then again your Tavarish. You could figure that out easily.
dude get an s600 and restore to good as new don't modify it. that way i can decide if i should do it myself!
Tavarish...
It's missing one of the air intake tube located on driver side, LOL!!
