You have the same frozen conditions we experienced two months ago. Sunny today, but low of 10. It might get up to 34 this afternoon. Thanks for braving the cold and ice to show us another one of your prospecting adventures Gary.

He was marking his boundary on the other side of the creek. One thing that you have to remember about clay is that it's a gold thief, you have to break up the clay really well and often times run the material twice, that has been my experience here in Oregon.
As long as you make your presence known little black bears won't bother you, just watch for out cubs and make sure your not between momma and the cub and you'll be just fine .... 😊

I am afraid that i would have a hard time concentrating on panning with a Bear hanging that close around me , i don't blame you Gary for giving him some space lol , and that creek looks very promising , a good one to return too when the conditions are right i'd say , thanks for being able to share the adventure , because we wouldn't have been able to see it if that Bear had you for lunch , stay safe please ,cheers .

Thank you Gary for the details you include in your observations.
You give experienced insight to every detail. Please NEVER stop doing that.
Your explanations of old ancient river beds, benches, gullies and creeks...This is FANTASTIC information..SO Informative!!!!
I Appreciate I and can't help but think that others do too.
    Your THE Best!!!!
I'd pay to go on a hike with you just to watch and learn how you develop the systems that once ran through there...
    Thanks again, man!!!

Hey Gary. It's Old Rocker.... I got a story on detecting haul roads in Alaska. A friend of mine found over 6 oz just detecting the road between Fairbanks and Circle. He got busted a few times but for 6 oz he said it was worth it... It's a state road so it was a no no.... The 70 mile pit produced a lot of gold. They first started putting all that the over burden from the pit on the road and later after the pit was not used it produced a LOT of gold. One story was the two guys that got in there first found over a million bucks in the first summer. Anyway, keep detecting the old roads that the old mines used because MOST of the time they did not want to cover the area they were mining in so they dumped most of their early tailings on the roads they used to get in and out... jus sayin...

    You are the Man!!
Thank you for all you do!!
I'm hoping to come out west one day and find gold like that! Its extremely difficult to pan/prospect in N.Y. or VT but I still go out searching when ever I can!
My findings to date since 2017 is 0.
My goal for this year is 1 gram!
I'm very passionate about it! For me it has nothing to do with great riches yet the challenge of finding a spot!
I honestly don't know how or why I even started prospecting.
It just hit me one day out of nowhere. I was in a creek when I seen some nice looking Mica.
I looked at the rock and was hooked!
I still have that very rock! Its like this rock zapped me and me search began!
I love watching you go on adventures! And oh man I would have shot my pants seeing a bear like that... You played it cool tho!
But if I do find anything I will let you know!

I keep looking at the cuts in roads and wondering if it is worth metal detecting banks where CalTrans has exposed large cuts through ridges where they cut to make the freeways flat. Surely there is at least a few that have cut through a gold vein, and I doubt they panned or sluiced the material they cut from the ridges. I seriously doubt CalTrans would be ok with digging into a road bank due to the erosion potential to mess up the roadways, but the tailings piles down the banks might be worth scanning?

I remember hearing about a old prospector up in the panhandle of Idaho driving down a muddy forest service road and found gold nuggets (Small pickers) sticking into the treads of his tires. I heard about this some 25 years ago. Idk if it was true or not but it was interesting to hear about it. I ended up finding some gold ore in that area but at $80 an ounce back then it wasn’t worth the troubles. Kinda wish I could remember were it was located at today, especially at $1300 an ounce

Get some white cotton liners thick 9mm neoprene gloves and the heat packs inside the cotton. TTT Wisconsin

I thought I was crazy to be metal detecting in 36 degree weather at the beach last week. Not like 17 degrees, you got some balls of Fire (you noticed that I didn’t say steel). At least the ground wasn’t frozen here like what your experienced in your neck of the woods.

I mentioned bears in my comment on your last video, go figure! Wish I could predict where gold is.
Great video again Gary. I won't mention mountain lions :-)
