It’s pretty weird to how they confused photorealistic animation for live action most of the time. Like the Lion King (2019) is billed it as live-action rather than animation when it is actually animated due to having no people in it and all the animals and background uses CGI and green screen.
1:36 An equivalent to this shot in animation would be the crowd animations by ghibli films, for example in the wind rises there is a 4s shot that is said to have taken a year and 3 months to make, they may produce very diffrent results, but they are equally valuable by the difficulties of making them. Then I have to mention the 3DCG specialists who focus solely on crowd animations both for animation and live action, making shots with hundreds of people possible in films like lord of the rings, coco, cars, and zootopia.
On the topic of animated films that could be live action but arent I've always wondered if a show like Monster that could be easily made in live action, means It should. The answear I've been able to find as to what it would loose, is that the character designs, and the art are part of its charm, and maybe even though you would likely gain a lot of performance from the actors, you could loose some of the iconic expressions of subtle horror. Another one, the original legend of the galatic heroes, has a lot of charm thanks to the art and chracter desings, still it would surely make a great space opera show. I think they could exist in live action, but is still impressive that they were made in animation, showcasing the extent of the medium.
2:30 I guess it wasn't cap 😞 Fr though, as much as I love both mediums, I think action in animation is just more dynamic and engaging than it is in live action. Also fr, that fight between Spike and Asimov is so good - idk how the word underwhelming got anywhere near that...
I could've used a better clip to illustrate that point,. Cowboy Bebop was just the only example I could think of where there's hand-to-hand combat in animation
Hello from a csssa kid. This is an amazing video. Great work! It's found it's audience. One time I watched A Silent Voice for a class and I asked why it was animated since it's such a realistic story and everyone got mad at me lol. That was years ago and I understand more now and now working in both live-action and animation I really enjoyed this, especially as I've had to consider what medium my ideas should be too. Very professional 10/10.
I watched this whole video and really liked it and as the video ended and I tried to change it I saw it had only 60 views! 60 VIEW!!!! It should have more this is such a good video like everyone should watch it
12:25 Why go out of your way to say live action does it better if both can easily achieve the same result? And I disagree if it's overly supernatural or fantasy to the point that you have non-humanoid species or superpowers it's going to be better animated 9out10 times. Every single live action superhero movie that has released to this day would have been better animated.
No animation already surpass live action realistic imagery it's call 3d with 3d help animation surpass any limit live action have and even better in term of cost

Love the mahavishnu orchestra in the background
Bravo! A true Michaelman classic!

Wow! Lots of interesting comparisons that I didn’t even realize! I always like watching these videos because I always learn something new!
i so agree with the closing statement, i wish that everyone would put this much thought into the media that they make
I think Star Wars would look soooooo good animated
Star Wars Visions exists, and it definitely scratches that itch! It’s on Disney+! 🔥
Good video man
Thanks
One thing I hate is when animation gets this excuse that it’s made for kids witch is much absurd compared to live action
