Will be sad to see when all the comengs are retired. I like them more than the X Trapolis trains. Much more roomy, and the announcement voiceover is the best
I was lucky enough to ride three sets in the space of a week in March on the Cranbourne/Pakenham line, with two being on consecutive days. I wasn't even trying to catch them! They were 374M, 440M and 460M. Haven't caught any since though, but I regularly see 331M/400M on the Northern Group.
Are alstom refurbished comeng trains the ones with the flat fronts like at 0:24 and the EDi refurbished comeng's the ones with a display on the top of the driver's window instead of on the side like on this one? Always wondered why some trains looked different from the front.
Actually there are four EDI sets, they are 331M-400M, 393M-394M, 439M-440M and 473M-474M and also 4 Alstom sets 330M-350M, 373M-374M, 459M-460M and 517M-529M, I think that 375M-488M may have also been withdrawn, but who knows
Yep. The last few days 439M was out of service and returned today. Very hard to tell if taken out for a little or retired. I did hear that 375M is gone too. Do still leaves 8 total. Just 4 of each
Yea you could find one. Probs best to go to P4/5 as most are usually running Northern Group Services. You could be waiting a good 90 minutes depeing on timing. Best to go during peak too
I finally got to catch a Stage 1 Comeng just yesterday! You'll never believe this but it was on the Pakenham line! I just happened to be coming home from the city and timed it just right and I got a Stage 1. I was super excited! I went all the way to Pakky and back to my home station on it. I loved hearing all the iconic sounds of a Stage 1 and even went through the doors between the carriages without the covering over the bit in between. I think it may have been a mixed set coupled to a Stage 2/3 but not sure. But yeah I finally caught one and it was definitely a Stage 1 I was on! I can rest easy now and go to my grave happy knowing I caught a Stage 1 Comeng in their final months before they all got retired.
Very nice!! Was in 393M/394M? It left Flinders Street on the 12:12 Pakky Service. And was coupled with Stage 2 EDI. If it was, then i filmed that coz ye was crazy sight. I ran to Platform 6 when saw it arrrive
I don't actually know if it was that set but I wasn't on that service anyway. I caught it around 3:10 I think from Platform 6. It could've been that same set after returning from Pakky back to FS. Not sure if that helps but yeah.

Agree with both statements :)

That is insane luck!!

Correct. And reason is because two diff companies refurbished the Comeng. One was Alstom and one was EDI (now known as Downer)
@@StrayaTrains it’s a real downer that they are being retired

@@comeng504mfilms Cheers. A shame tho it wasnt in chronological order!
@@StrayaTrains Also, 393M-394M should have 1047T and 395M-396M should have 1048T and not 1046T
@@comeng504mfilms Yea that is odd how T Carrs have changed but not M Carrs
I love this video already because I love alstom and stage 1 comengs. I like stage 1 comengs.because of the gangway lol
Thanks. And yes, the open gangways are the best!
U reckon if i hang around flinders street i will find one?

in 3 days I’ve been on every single set of the remaining stage 1 comengs so u should find some
@@breemsp591 They should still be on for another couple of months
lol you know its a stage 1 when you hear that ear piercing air brake release sound
Indeed :)
Has 400M been retired yet?
As of April 5th, 2022, it is still in service
@@StrayaTrains Cool, I might have a chance of catching it
@@blockypc Indeed! It will likely be running Northern Group Services as a heads up
