The Bizarre Beast with Pointy Ribs
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2020
- The Iberian ribbed newt likes doing regular newt things, like living in ponds and eating worms. But when they’re threatened by a predator, they basically become the newt version of Wolverine from X-Men.

Can you imagine being a newt, minding your own business, doing newt things and suddenly you get shot into space and someone turns the gravity off?!?
they cut off his wee little leg ... js
@@ValeriePallaoro ??? Couldn't have been satisfied with a CT scan on landing and then waited for a natural death before dissecting?
@@neolexiousneolexian6079 lmao, what are u even saying? No regeneration without injury, ct scans wont help that fact. No one (whos somewhat normal) likes hurting animals but to study regeneration in space you must induce regeneration in space aka injure the newt in space
Astronewts are astrocute
Ikr
When he went to space, he evolved into Newtwo.
Way cuter than astrozombies
these newts live in the same country as me
For some reason, I am so enamoured with the phrase "little frog bricks"; I just want a little frog brick house or a little frog brick road or something.
Frozen froggy chair
Follow the little frog brick road, Dorothy
But what happens in the summer? Your house will hop away!
@@CamiloSantana That's a price I'm willing to pay
@@CamiloSantana Mobile home.
I thought frogs were the only amphibians that go "rib it".
Also, loved the Monty Python reference
oh that's Beautiful!
BAH DUN TSSSS
11/10 amazing joke
Lol
That footage of confused newt floating around in space made me laugh so hard. Like, I feel bad because it was probably also really scared, but also the way it's limbs flailed about was just so silly.
ASTRONEWTS
Yes!
+
The thing with the Wolverine reference is, there's an actual mutant from the X-men comics called Marrow who has this exact power, can grow bones out of his skin as weapons. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marrow_(comics)
Oh snap! Throwing bones!! And her name is Sarah too!
Well, so can wolverine. His claws are made of bone.
@@TheWatcher802 *were* made of bone 🙂
@@CamiloSantana Always have been, just have an adamantium coating.
There's actually two well known versions of Marrow: the comics version, who's female, and the X-men Evolution version, who's male and is also Storm's nephew in that series
I was just ASTONISHED when the Astronewts came about. I mean... LOOK AT THAT NEWT FLOATING!
It is one of the *least* graceful things I have ever witnessed lol.
@@fevre_dream8542 Lmao what are you talking about
Impeccable form
poor guy was trying to swim in air
New headcanon: Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) calling Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) his, "little Iberian ribbed newt" and only talks to him in spanish. 🥰🥰🥰😁
They should at LEAST do this on social media! You need to post this idea and a link to the episode to them on social media and we should all pile on the pleas! 🤯😍🤞
They probably would too if someone have them the idea
Bobbie A done and done 😁
@@alarcon99 Which platform? I don't tweet, but if it's any other, I want to go comment and boost the post! 🎉
The Iberian (Basque) don’t speak Spanish. It’s an language isolate.
Omg astronewts, little frog bricks, this episode is just loaded with amazing new terms to try and fit into everyday conversations.
For someone who just finished Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, this is literally Clodsire
Yes. Beat me to it. 🥰
Damn think about the evolutionary pressure these guys' ancestor must have been under to get to this adaptation. You get eaten unless you have a mutation that _literally lets you stab predators with your ribs poking through your skin!_
Whilst already being toxic.
@@quitlife9279 Is not assurance. Being toxic still lets predators to bite you. So they might release the newt, but may have bitten to hard and killed or critically injured it. The newts that posed curved to look big and had the genetic oddity of having the ribs sticking to the side might had an advantage in that the ribs prevented strong bites by causing discomfort or puncturing the predator's mouth prompting a faster release with less damage.
From there this population survived more than others, reproduced more and pocking out ribs throughout the skin became a thing over generations with the ones with longer ribs surviving more than the others.
Be honest you're here now because this animal inspired Clodsire... haha
Yes because Clodsire is the best and Rika is the best Elite Four in the region because her ace is Clodsire.
Fun fact. The Iberian ribbed newt is the main inspiration for Clodsire’s design
I feel like the neighbor kid in The Incredibles, right now. THAT WAS TOTALLY WICKED!!
Kudos for the "flesh wound" reference...🤣
If I had been John Cleese, & I'd known about this back then,
I might've chosen to STAY "a NEWT!!!"
😘💓🦎
love the analogy, i totally would freak out if fish werent a thing and then we found out things breathed underwater
Man I really want an astronewt
"Among Newts"
"Just a flesh wound" sounds like these newts are similar to the black knight. ^^
Super beast tissue regeneration, hidden-blades, breath under water and been to space
Wha-
It's also toxic D=
That's a scary last boss level critter D=
We love discoveries that make you question the scientist’s sanity. “It irritates human mucus membranes” HOW did you learn that? Did you just assume that it would? Did you LICK the newt? Did you swab some in your mouth on purpose? Did you aerosolize and inhale it? WHAT HAPPENED?
The most rational thing I can think of is having got some in your eye. In which case, YOU SHOULD HAVE WORN EYE PROTECTION
Probably got some on his hands, then rubbed his eyes or nose without thinking about it.
Didn’t sci show make an ep about undergrads licking stuff?
You should try each of those and report back. Science please.
History is full of scientists experimenting on themselves and making the rest of us go "ok interesting, but HOW did you learn that?"
I just barely discovered this channel and I must say that this is a dream come true, I have been looking for something like this and I have finally found it and I love it. Thank you for creating this wonderful channel and I look forward to seeing more in the future.
When you said astronewt I immediately hit the bell button.
Y’all that Monty Python reference did NOT go unnoticed 😂😂
Where lol
... Nevermind I found it lmao
I was pointed here from SciShow. Super cool content! Subbed right away.
I used to catch to watch several of those while I was a kid! They love to eat small frogs. Never knew they had such an ability with limbs, I mean, you do not feel something hard nor that sharp when you grab them. What felt most curious is that they puke the intestins of their prey after eating it.
Nice vid!!
PBS Eons recommended me to visit! I loved this video and I’ll definitely subscribe. Thank you for this great content!
"ASTRONEWTS" has me in tears. I love this narrator. More please.
no clue these things existed, glad you featured them! adorable astronewts
Everyone also learned something new by accident. Sarah is a Comic book fan.
Which is HELLA AWESOME
I really like this new channel! The idea is great! I want to suggest some animals for the next videos:
1) Musk Deer
2) Aardvark
3) Fossa
I wish you guys good luck with this!
I found this channel because of Journey to The Microcosmos. I love that channel, and i think i'm gonna love this one too. 🙂
You are hilarious; that floating newt is hilarious, and I'm so glad I found this channel.
I want a sticker version of Wolvernewt.
3:58 Newt flails around in space: OH MY GOD WHAT'S HAPPENING
HYPE!!! More herps please!! There’s so many funky reptiles and amphibians
You, a scientist : Iberian Ribbed Newt
Me, a toaster : Wolverphebian
Ribbed newts and Wolverine frogs go “rib it”
Also the Wolverine Frog is a very GOOD bizarre beast
Where I live, their name translates to "bull strangler" because, according to folklore, if this newt happens to be in a grassy field and a cow eats it by accident, it might asfixiate it
"It's just a flesh wound!" classic Monty Python sketch!!!
She keeps comparing the newt to Wolverine, but all the stuff about abilities amphibians have just makes me think of new powers for the Toad.
seeing this after Clodsire was released is so cool!!! definitely gonna name mine Wolverine
Newt, "shnick" pointy bits pop out.
Also NEWTS IN SPAAAAAACE!
Astronewts is my favorite pun ever.
Every new video from this channel makes me love it even more. Nature is crazy.
This is an awesome and super fun channel/series!! Thanks for making it!!
I love the shirt (especially with all the pins!)
Did you see that? At 5:30. That amphibian regrew it’s HAND! in 5 months, flat. A whole new, perfect hand. That’s so amazing!
The inspiration for Clodsire, the world's most perfect Pokemon.
That was really cool.
I was waiting for this to come out, felt like it might not have.
Fantastic! You folks keep hitting it out of the park!
Clodsire brought me here.
they predicted Clodsire
My village had the northernmost population of these Newts in Portugal. They built a shopping over the lake and the population went extinct.. I hate shoppings....
That is awfully tragic. People need to be taught to respect nature.
@@JanetStarChild on a positive note, I've heard of this species being sighted even more north than my village, but my area never saw them again, still hate shoppings!
I can't resist the Monty Python reference of "it's just a flesh wound." "But your arms off."
its a clodsire
I like your Hausu pin. :D
I absolutely loved this video. Great engaging presentation. Keep up the good work!
Clodsire!
Love the "Astronewt" pun. May I also suggest to the comics community that there needs to be a "Newtant" superhero?
It's always amphibians who live with bone breaking weaponries, like those wolverine frogs who breaks their fingers to form claws.
This show continues to be an absolutely stellar addition to Weird Animal UA-cam.
SciShow brought me here and I did not regret it.
You have a new subscriber 😀
The concept of objective bizarreness is objectively bizarre.
I just bought 2 of these babies at a reptile show yesterday! Such beautiful creatures!
That’s definitely bizarre. Good video. This is going to be a fun channel.
that space newt is priceless. 3:57
So, the living embodiments of "t'is just a flesh wound"?
First episode I saw, already love the show.
This is the first time I have watched this channel! The vedio was really interesting and the narrarator was really intertaining! 👍
You are such a great host. Love this channel.
1:40 that low key looks like an album cover
I watched Hank on Scishow. He introduced me to this channel . I can't wait for the rest of this new series.
That Newt is so cool, love all the Wolverine comparisons.
omg, i love all the puns in these videos!!!!
How did I not know about this channel?!?!
Welcome!
Wood frog is now called Lithobates sylvaticus FYI :)
I had a pair of ribbed newts they are so cool. I loved them super fun to watch
Excellent Hausu pin.
Thanks for the newts
Girl, this was cool!!!
Sarah, I really like your jewel beatle necklace! I have the same thing minus the chain. 😁
Clodsire be like
That is so cool. Thanks
These newts are like Santana but without the vaporizing in sunlight part
Thank you
This is very cool
at 05:27, the flexing newt reminds me very much of Joanna the goanna from Rescuers Down Under. The pose, the legs, the toes, the tail... I wonder if newts provided any inspiration. :D
This was so cool
Gentlemen, applaud the clod.
OMG, astronewts! Mind blown.
Do u guys have a video on that underwater snail that builds armor? That sounds awesome
Fascinating🦎
You should look into the hairy frog, this frog basically breaks it's own bones to give itself claws.
I own 3 of them, and they are the best!
Damn!!! This animal is so Cool!!! thank you for sharing this fantastic animals on your channel!!, amazing videos Always!!! 🐳🧡💮🍃
Mine are too well padded to do that. Ironically, from eating too many BBQ ribs.
They better add one of these to Scarlet and Violet, maybe the first Poison/Steel type?
3:59 That is one thoroughly confused newt.
Gussie Fink-Nottle This is Bizzare !
