Last Area Kmart Express To Be Ripped Up, But Preserved

- The Canton Kmart (#4175) closed in December 2016 along with its Kmart Express Gas Station. It's been repurposed over the past few years as Millcraft Barns and has kept all the Kmart pumps and signage. Due to the tanks underground beginning to leak, they must be ripped out to prevent any environmental damage. When this happens, the pumps and everything with them will be gone. It was our job to remove what we could to preserve what we will never again have... a Kmart Express.

_We are too. I used to live about 3 miles from here, and stopped there a lot. It's too bad I missed the chance to save something from Massillon before it got "expressed," as Wallie put it. LOL._

This is why when a gas station closes, the underground gas tanks are removed. I've never seen pay cash at pump

_I agree. There aren't but 30 something stores left, I think. They can't close too many more unless they finally just take the whole company off life support._

I just can't understand why the gas station closed. How can you not make money selling gas and candy?
_Kmart (and Sears) was losing money in many other areas. In an effort to cut costs, these stores and stations closed. Many say it's because of bad corporate leadership._

There's a closed Super Kmart with a Kmart Express Gas Sation in Terre Haute, IN. It's still there as far as I know.

Ironically, a K-Mart here which has been closed almost ten years, is now an Amazon distribution site. It took the contractor less than a month to completely remodel the building inside and out. Amazing.
_Wow! That seems small for an Amazon DC. Did they add to it at all? The Amazon DC being built near me is on the site of the old Rolling Acres Mall, and it is HUGE!!_
@@RichardDremdenWolf The only add on was the enclosure of the old garden shop outside storage area. Also, there are two humongous Amazon DC Warehouses the size of city blocks less than 10 miles from the old K-Mart store. (Jacksonville Fl).

New subscriber here. Never knew Kmarts had a gas station. Cool.
Kmart Express never got outside of the Midwest U.S. - the expansion plans were scuttled when Kmart declared bankruptcy in 2002 and under the Eddie Lampert ownership what was already there dwindled away with the rest of the chain. (Officially defunct in 2017 when the last Kmart that had an Express gas station attached shut down.)
