      @no serious guys till your thirty I had my chainsaw catch my thigh, and was wearing jeans. That was enough to somehow buck the blade away, and there was a huge rip in my Pants and a small little gash on my leg(band-aid sized). God truly spared my life, my femoral artery would have been hit 100% if it went much further. Honestly it still makes me uneasy thinking about myself bleeding out knowing i would die from an injury like that. I now hear my dads voice in the back of my head every time telling me to get my stance so if the saw/axe misses etc, i keep my feet. I will definitely be getting a pair of these I had no clue those chaps were for that.

His dad was there and groaned ... not because it didn't save his son ... but because the wife would be all over him due to the replacement cost. Ha!

    My dad gave me a Stihl chainsaw with a 14” bar for my birthday and wrapped them in a pair of chaps. Those chaps have saved my kegs more times from axes and machetes that chainsaws. I have used the chainsaw a few times in the past month and a half since I got it on smaller trees but so far no accidents (knock on wood)

    • @sebastianwendl603
      @sebastianwendl603 8 місяців тому +1

      Keep using them. I have worked with chainsaws for more than 5 years, never needed the chaps (in my case: protective trousers, but I'm not a native speaker. You get the point). Stumbled and fell backwards while cutting a tree, blade hit my left knee. Without them, I would likely have lost mobility in my left leg. Keep wearing them, one day you might need them.
      For axes and machetes: there are metal plates you could use. Makes you look like a medieval knight and works way better. Just a suggestion.

    Doesn't matter how hot it gets, my chaps are always on, and they are full of little nicks and cuts. If you run a saw enough, eventually you'll get into your legs. Usually after a long week of running a saw 10 hours a day, you get lazy and bring the saw to rest on your left thigh. The lazier you get, the closer the chain gets to your pants. Plus, trips happen a lot in the woods, snags, limbs, all the stuff that can get you off balance. They are especially nice in the winter, for obvious reasons lol. Even not running a saw, chaps are great. If youre pushing your way through the woods, its nice to not have limbs and pokey bushes stabbing your legs. And when you clean up brush you can just walk into the pile and use your legs to crunch things together nicely.

    I own these and have ran a saw into a pair. While they are awesome, it does suck cleaning out the bar and chain afterward. But better than a trip to the hospital.

    I wish we took this shit seriously back on the farm. I watched my uncle damn near cut off his leg when it kicked back. 23 staples and 40 stitches after they laid him open to clean out all the dirt, leaves, bark, sawdust and twigs (yes, twigs) from his hip down to his knee. We had three belts tied around his leg just to hold it all together. Because once it bit him it ran down while going in. Amazing fact is it missed the arteries completely.
