None of the guns had nails in, but the board at the end did, which is why it came out at an angle rather than straight. Even if you think you can tell which gun it is from the inflections in someone's voice, you wouldn't risk it for real.
The issue with this technique is that he also needs to know what gun Grant pre-emptively loaded, because if he chooses the one that Grant loaded and it doesn't fire, well.
The trick is kaput.

I must say that I already had figured out which one was loaded before he tested gun number 4, I heard it when he said yes to the question: is gun 3 safe

listen to what he says from 4 - 4:7 . while he says 'yes' for 'three' in the second time his sound was like shivering . and i think that was the trick

thats just a reflection of the lights when the holder for the gun is tipped slightly

Your a little confused, A nail gun has a safety cap yes, but the way it works is when you push the nail gun down, the tip slides back, releasing the safety , this prevents the nail gun from firing into mid air, this is why at 5:23 he tells him to push it in, and at 5:30 you can actullay watch the orange slider fall back the black slide, releasing the safety and discharging the gun

I figured it out, lol! From the first part, that he replaced gun 1 and 3. The second time, when he sounded a bit scared saying the number 3, it was almost obvious. So it was real. This guy just really knows people.
I once went on a cruise and got pressured into doing this trick with this guy in the same role as Grant, though I had no idea which gun was which, and he was using staple guns instead of nail guns. Imagine a baby-faced, terrified 21-year-old girl with no clue what gun was what in Grant's place. Still slightly traumatised from that, and this happened to me before this video was filmed XP
I have since stopped wearing brightly coloured party dresses, as I was wearing an orange one at the time and am almost positive it was that which caused me to stand out like a beacon for him to select an audience member XP
The trick is simple, he's not reading people's minds, he makes people think in a specific thing that he wants, then he just has to reveal what he already knew.

Probably one of those pads that digitally reads what's written. From there it's wirelessly transmitted to someone else in the building who then tells him what to draw by a tiny earpiece. That's why the images didn't look at all like one another. The wine glass was a red herring.

Oh! and we're also getting closer to being able to read minds using machinery :) We can get pretty good images of common day objects from minds visually.
i was drinking some drinks and listening to this at the same time and when he asked the question i was like it's obvious its number 3 from that delay

When he ask him to say "yes" to every question he would say, you can clearly hear a faster "yes" on the question "is nunmber 3 (...)".
Those things are called mentalism, not magic.
By the tone of his voice while asking the numbers he can tell witch gun has a nail!

You're right, but in the end, the stunt is more a proof of his capabilities rather than the real danger implied.
Penn and Teller did this, they used prop nail guns that only shot nails when no pressure was applied on the gun. I would imagine it's something very similar.
Someone in the audience screamed out "No" at gun #3 when Grant were asked to respond "yes" to each of his questions

The strangest part for me was how the assistant did not hesitate to give him the loaded nail gun. He must've known the magician would change his mind.

The secret of the trick lies on the voice tone of Ron. When Ron asked to say the number, there is a slight different in his tone (when he says one, two, three and four). People unconscious mind tends to be honest, and it couldn't be hidden. For the layman the difference of tonality (the way he say each number) may not be detected, but it was enough for the professional. If you wanna try it with less risk, do it with playing card. So, the conclusion is there is no mind reader...!

I'm thinking all the nail guns are loaded but they have a safety mechanism on them that if it detects heat at the tip, it wont release a nail. That's why he always paused just before giving the go ahead, to give it time to detect his body heat and why the one fired into the wood. Just a guess

Deacon X The only safety's are like a gun safety on some where you can make the trigger unusable or the pressing down of the tip. If you notice he actually doesn't "PRESS" until he fires the nail, and a little spring loaded mechanism is then pushed down which allows the nail to be fired. This makes it so you can't shoot nails like a REAL gun. It has to be pressed against a solid object. You CAN however tape this down and then shoot nails out like a real gun :). You can also set it so you just press the spring loaded thing against a hard object to shoot nails in without having to push the trigger. This setting is pretty much only used for construction workers as it's very dangerous but doesn't make your hand sore from constant trigger pulling. My buddy told me about a guy he was building a house with and he had it on this setting and forgot and he was trying to stand up or something and for some reason he pressed the gun onto his knee and he had it set on the auto shoot setting without pulling the trigger, and it fired a nail right into his thigh :)
+Deacon X It's the exact opposite - none of the guns are loaded. At the end, when it looks like the nail is fired from the gun, it actually comes out of the piece of wood.

3:59 of course you can tell gun #3 has the needle, when grant was ordered to say yes quickly in each of the questions asked, grant said yes -A SLIGHT SECOND LATE- when anthony talked about gun #3!
The secret is that all the guns are loaded. Quite a simple trick actually at the tip of the gun there is a spring that needs to bee pushed all the way for the gun to be able to fire. his body is to soft for the spring in the gun to compress completely and therefore will not fire, but the wood is hard enough :)
The fact that he didn't immediately do the correct drawing in his audition leads me to believe it is a type of mind-reading, but not magic or anything - more psychological.

all 4 are loaded, the assistant is in on it, there is a button you push to release the nail which he doesnt push so when he pulls the trigger the gas is ejected an it makes a sound but no nail is fired
I am such an amateur at tricks but I am very attentive. It's obvious when he asked if gun 3 is loaded the assistant stuttered by a slight bit before saying yes. The fact that he was telling a lie, made him stutter a bit. THe other guns he answered fluently and if you replay the video you will see it

he might have heard the difference between the loaded and unloaded one while the assistant picked them up, or heard them being switched which would have been part of the act, first he switches 1 and 3, he pauses while hes switching the nail guns, maybe to listen? then you'll notice he shoots 2 and 4 and 1 and 3 are the finale
He knew which gun was loaded after he asked him to count to 4. Listen when he says 3 he has a different tone when he says it probably not knowing either but subconsciously did it. All the rest was just for show to keep the suspense up.

I don't get this... the guy pulling the trigger knew which guns were loaded..., why would he pull the trigger if the guy picks the loaded gun - no danger involved.
You guys are simply too amazed and confused to admit it is actual mind reading, if you guys are so great why don't you go on the show, then we will all believe you! :-/ Not to mention how he knew the name and how he figured what Kyle drew in his audition AND what he did to the random people on Better Homes and Gardens!!!!

I am curious to know the toe of gun used. If the gun has sensors for electrical conductance, which your skin has, then the nail won't fire (there is a saw that retracts as soon as it touches your finger, UA-cam it). So basically all the guns were loaded. Thank you ladies and gentlemen.

At 3:14 he hesitates a little at number 1 while the others he says them fast, and on the "yes" question he also hesitates when asked for nr. 1, because he knows it's not safe.
Easy to detect, that's how our brain works, no "mind reading" involved whatsoever :P
What really happen is that when grunt was told to say yes to the safe gun as a human when we lie out voice is different so when you hear it again and he asked him about the guns you can hear a slight difference from the other yeses being heard
They are not all empty. If you had carefully watched the whole video, he told Grant to fire the last one into the timber.
I knew it was 3 all along because, when he said switch around when grabbed straight away number 1 (loaded) which he swapped with number 3!!

I'm not sure and I don't mean to be a silly spoil sport and I might be wrong but when he picked up the guns which weren't loaded he put them straight to his body which was why he was confident they were fine because grant wouldn't hold a loaded gun to him. And then when Grant picked up gun number 3 he hesitated for a while and as soon as he picked up number 1 he was absolutely fine...
but the alst bit was absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!

The blind fold could be made of polarising filters. Notice how he turns it around.
The assistant put an emphasis on the "3" if you listen closely.

The number it takes the longest to react too isn't safe.
This little trick hints that he can not read minds, otherwise he wouldn't have to use it.
I actually don't know how he found out about the name, but I'm sure that there is a way to do that too. Still, it's a very good trick and I liked it alot :P !
Well when Grant hesitated on saying Yes to 3 that's when he knew. That's roughly around the 4:00 mark. It's basic instinct to tell the truth when there isn't much on the line so Grant had to go against his will to say yes when he knew it was a lie, that's what gave Gun number 3 away

just everyone knows nail guns can fire a nail regardless if it's on a solid surface or not. the cap only needs to be pulled back for it to shoot. i have lived on a farm my entire life and trust me i've tried lol so this is seriously legit. for example if u hold the gun two feet from a solid surface (wood) and hold the cap back and fire then the nail will lodge itself into the wood. so hands down the danger was there.

Notice the position of the blindfold. It's about 1/2 way on his nose. There is still a gap/line of sight between his nose and cheek where he can peek downwards. If the cloth was covering his nose that gap would be very hard to see out of. try using a shirt.
the light comes again at 5:11, telling him that number 3, indeed was the one loaded
he probably knew it was gun #3 from the beginning because of grant's hesitation and only said he changed his mind in the end to make it more believable

When he was mixing the guns, he picked up 3 first. Normal instinct is to switch the odd one out first. In this case, gun number 3.
Still exceptional to figure it out while blindfolded though.

for the audience he messed it up, he only switched gun 1 and 3, so obviously you will not put the loaded gun as the first gun, so then the loaded one is number 3
Yeah, that's what I thought for those guns, but I haven't figured out how he picked #2 from the outset.
he should make it more convincing by letting one of the judges choose a random audience and mix the nail guns, who knows that the guy is his assistance?

Grant didnt press the loaded gun into his tummy when he asked him too... so its pretty easy to tell he hesitated
Nail guns have safety cap on them! they only nail solid surfaces!
He knew the assistant would move the gun that was loaded when he was asked to mix it so when he heard the assistant move the first and third around he knew it was the third one.
Time 5:32 when everyone is amazed at the last gun missing, he yelled out Reese.

@vihren shokarov I did indeed figure out it was #3 but the trick is still cool, and there is still danger in it. (Oh and how would you ever be able to figure out which it was if the guy didn't know which one it was?)
Number 3 was loaded, number 3 was never pressed against his body. So if there is a very small hidden thing at the end of the gun then how did he swap WITHOUT the loaded gun touching him. Yes it's a trick, but you haven't figured it out.
