    Euro 5 for 2020 bikes is 30% less emissions vs Euro 4. I believe there are more noise limitations which may account for some restrictions.

      Yeah I did my s1000rr and I paid 700 for the tuner device and the tune. I also had to get it dyno too, so yeah I paied close to that for 6 more HP not worth it.
      It rides better in the lower RPM range, like it doesn't jerk in the lower gears

    • @fins7195
      @fins7195 5 років тому

      I was on the fence about flashing my 2013 s1000rr 4 years ago when I purchased it used. I just did the brentuning stage 3 flash by buying the handheld unit. Watch for sales they run. I got 15% off the unit and the stage 3 tune. Not cheap but definitely worth it. Derestricts partial throttle positions in 1-3 gear and ups the redline limit. Bike runs noticeably cooler even in heavy traffic. Definitely more power. All around it's just impressive. My bike was a beast before the flash and now it's straight up a monster. Look for a sale on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I believe they usually run sales that entire weekend. You won't regret it. I regret not doing it years ago.

    That restriction is strictly to meet Euro5 emissions regulations and CA/NY Smog laws which are super stringent. so much so that in the cruising RPM range (Under 9 K) the bikes max power and throttle would be restricted in that Rev range.

  • @bernhtp
    @bernhtp 5 років тому +1

    I’m also in Austin and picked up my new M Sport RR this week from Woods/RideNow.
    It’s an awesome bike, but the throttle/exhaust restriction is so obvious. In gears 2 and 3 everything is great as you roll on the throttle until you hit about a quarter turn, then nothing happens regardless how much more you turn it until it gets to around 9K RPM, which is my redline until my first service in a couple of weeks.
    My understanding is that the restrictions are all about noise, not emissions. The EU is stricter on emissions (especially the upcoming Euro5 spec) and the US is worse on sound. Hence the restrictions in the lower RPM where the tests occur, and especially on the exhaust value opening.
    I took it out on Lime Creek Rd early this morning and did some twisties, albeit held up by a buddy that’s not as experienced/fast. The bike feels so small and light for a superbike and handles like a dream. I have a bunch of track experience on the 2018 RR at CSS camps, and this bike is noticeably better. I love this bike and will fix its issue the way you did.
    I will be getting a flash/tune, but haven’t decided on the vendor yet. I want to ensure I can get it quickly flashed back if it has a major engine issue. Despite what Griffin implies, the dealer can detect the flash if they take the trouble; they normally don’t. But I’m not taking any chances if I need to bring it in for a warranty issue I suspect might be engine damage, because BMW will ask them to.
    I also want to ensure that changes derestricting throttle (and exhaust valve) limits don’t confuse or otherwise mess with the stabilization software (throttle limits at lean and slip, wheelie control, etc.). I doubt there are corresponding map settings that need to be set there, but I want to make sure. It’s my ass on the pavement (or worse).
    Just got off the bike. Man it’s hot here. Can’t wear my track suit even in the morning, and even my tour riding suit with its good airflow gets hot.

    • @bernhtp
      @bernhtp 5 років тому

      @@motonosityI would love to get together to check out your post-exhaust setup and other mods.
      I’m pretty much a minimalist and don’t do too much to my bike. I did wire in a dual-USB and tender outlet to my triple clamp yesterday along with installing an X-Grip for my phone. I’m about to order some StompGrips, frame sliders, rear spools and Pitbull stand.
      Nothing I have fits the tiny tail, so I almost ordered a BMW 20 Liter tail bag, but man they are proud of it - over $400. I can afford it, but a gold-filled tail bag shouldn’t cost that much. What do you like?
      I generally don’t do exhausts. I really don’t like loud. But performance reasons might be enough to get a full system some time in the fall when I start tracking it some.

    • @fins7195
      @fins7195 5 років тому

      If you wait for awhile brentuning will probably offer a handheld unit for the 2020. I have one for mine and it has the original map to flash it back to stock if you want to get dealer work done. I would just email them and ask them if and when they might offer the handheld unit. Their email is Sales@brentuning.com.... Chris is the guy who usually responds to emails. Good luck to you and your bmw.

    What else is planned for the bike modification wise. Only things I would do to my bike in addition to the tune is a full Akropavic exhaust in titanium, fix the rear tail brake and turn signals via a custom under tail, a tinted windscreen and a different seat for every day riding.

    Thank you for the videos. Someday I’ll be at your level with the S1000RR (I love the bike). I own the F900R and looking to get mine flashed. Any suggestions?

    Red lines are a precaution with manufacturers.. the rev limiter is where it matters.. why raise it.. unless BMW lowers the rev limiter for caution.. but from what I understand company's have the rev limiter at the edge of destruction.. idk.. that's jsut what I have always been told...

      Red lines are a Insurance thing.. my Saturn redlines at 5000 rpm.. my rev limiter is at 6.5.. guess where the danger lies... 6.5.. red lines are for intimidation

    Hmmm, i wonder if that restriction there during the press launch? I'd have to go back and everybody's press launch vlogs.

    Did you consider going with Alpha for the tune? If so, why did you go with Bren (assuming they didn’t sponsor this video)

    • @motonosity
      @motonosity  5 років тому

      I'm not familiar with Alpha. I am familiar with BT and their reputation (also looks like Alpha doesn't offer anything for the 2020 yet).

    • @02Guffy

      @@motonosity They have a stage 1 and stage 2 tune out for the 2020+ as of a couple of weeks ago. Stage 1 is $699 and stage 2 is $1299. Both companies have good reputations but I have wondered if Alpha's affiliation with the BMW WSBK team might give them a slew of more data points from which to test from... not just dyno testing. I am currently debating which company to go through

    Doesn't it void your warranty when you flashed ECU?

    • @robtno1

      Michael Bradford The flash cant be seen it sits on a different part of the Ecu undetectable.

      Don't know about the bike world but I know at the manufacturer I work for when ever we use diagnostics we can log in and see it easy and every time you send away faults back to the company they see it too

    Doesnt the flash void your warrenty? It would in the UK

    • @motonosity
      @motonosity  5 років тому

      Regardless of whether it does or not, I'd do it anyways. The bike is so severely restricted, no warranty is worth skipping the flash.

    • @robtno1
      @robtno1 5 років тому

      The flash is undetectable but obviously noticeable.

    • @j4zzx297
      @j4zzx297 5 років тому

      @@robtno1 it depends how its done. They normally flash the ecu if there is a update in the warrenty period (main dealers). They can detect if the hash is changed on the file. Just depends on whos doing it, and if the check versions.

      This new bmw is wired so tight, someone somewhere in some bmw lab probably got a email the second your ECU was unplugged.

    It seems like not having the flash would be dangerous being that it kicks in crazy at 8000 rpms.

    • @oo7Grexx
      @oo7Grexx 5 років тому

      Nick Hall it voids warranty if they dig deep, this is why I haven’t placed my order yet. It’s hard to spend 25k plus on a bike and spend another 1k on a tune which voids warranty. Can’t get past that..

      It won't NEED it, but to get he most out of it, yes I'll have it reflashed. Not doing an exhaust right away though. Still waiting for it to be released.
