@@titanue6717 btw that Patterson one is wrong, Pat only came with the idea of 30 men with a 90 second interval, the Royal Rumble itself started off as a battle royal. Patterson changed up the concept of the Rumble later that we all know and love today
Pat Patterson was the first person to pitch the idea for the Royal Rumble interesting fact Vince McMahon at the time thought it was the dumbest idea he's ever heard and didn't pursue the Royal Rumble for if I'm correct two years. In 1987 the first unofficial Royal Rumble which was won by one man gang had such a positive reaction from the crowd that they decided to host the very first Royal Rumble in 1988 which was won by Hacksaw Jim Duggan
No apparently because pat wasn't there the rumble sucked hard to the point Vince would use that to mock pat. The only reason it survived was because Dick Ebersol from NBC wanted something different for the USA network
Thanks for some great entertainment on a day when I really needed some. I love these quizzes. I as always play along & knew it was Pat Patterson, but have no clue where I learned that from. I know this is old & I thought Shayna should have won. At least she’s not being totally underutilized now tagging & feuded with Rousey.
The first time I ever got every single question right (with the details and everything). I love the royal rumble. Also yes there are 4 wrestlers who won from number 30 (the 4th is triple h in 2016)
20:28 Pat Patterson had the idea, but there was another person who thought the idea had legs. It was former television executive Dick Ebersol. WWE had been contracted by NBC to provide a program to run on USA during halftime of the Super Bowl (and as counter programming to Jim Crockett's Bunkhouse Stampede PPV). WWE had actually done a dry run match at a house show in St. Louis a few months prior but it didn't go over too well. In the meeting with Ebersol (who was head of NBC Sports at the time), Vince McMahon jokingly told Pat to tell him about that crazy idea. Surprisingly Dick thought that the idea of a battle royal with timed entries rather than everyone starting at the same time would be good TV.
There is actually four men who entered at #30. The undertaker in '07, Cena in '08, triple h in '16, and Brock in '22. Cena and Hunter where both returns, and Brock was in the match the same year he lost the wwe title to Bobby Lashley.
What a finale, that was entertaining. For some reason my first instincts was Gerald Brisco, then I thought nope I'm confidently going in with Vince. I think I was thinking of Wrestlemania which was apparently his brainchild.
I think Rhea might pull double duty tonight, I could see being in at least the final 4 of both rumbles. They've been allowing her to get physical with the guys & if she wins the Women's one then makes the final 4 of the mens she looks like a mega star before beating Flair at Mania to reverse the 2020 match where she lost to Flair
I think it’d be fun to see her in the men’s, but I get the feeling that we might be out of the era of that crossover entry. Nia’s entry in 2019 was because the men were main eventing and it let them say someone entered the men’s and women’s match on the same night. If they want to get the accolade off of her, Rhea would be the one to do it.
@@gabepollock1641 Rhea fits in though story line wise as well & they really seem to be getting behind her. Assuming they still want to build to father vs son at WM she can also be there to be Dom's muscle, give Rey a good kicking & let Dom pick up the bones for the elimination. Plus WWE (cough vince) has a thing about getting records off people who don't work for him anymore so having Rhea out do Nia also wouldn't be a surprise
