They are elite but Proxima and Corvus are better, they have better combat experience, they have conquered planets with Thanos and have faced many species. Steve, Nat and Sam only defeated them because it was a surprise attack, in a 1v1 Proxima and Corvus would kill any of the, the movie shows how Vision saves Steve's life and Wanda saves Nat's. Wanda and Vision are not elite but i they have a better chance of winning in 1vs1, Proxima and Corvus know it, that's why they surprise attaked them, made Vision unable to use all of his abilities and kept Wanda away so she wouldn't help him.
The saddest thing is that all these people apparently did not see Infinity War in the theatre. Where the collective energy and emotions of the rest of the audience is in the air. Between this and Thor's entrance in Wakanda, and the portals scene in Endgame (and actually, the three Peters in Spider Man - No Way Home) there is nothing like it. Well, except maybe for the first Jackass movie.

just realize Wanda & vision aren't trained. Wanda is still a kid and Vision was programmed. Trained killers Natasha & Rogers shows up and the game changes immediately. This is why well trained is important no matter the power.
