"Are you still with me? If you're with me, give me a like." haha. I really like how you did a quick recap of the 1st 2 items before moving onto the third item. Great job, man!
Hey Oliver! Thanks for this Audio tools playlist. It’s very useful and good stuff imo. Made me realise that I do actually understand these tools but you’re videos helped me get to get more deeper understanding on them. Cheers from Helsinki, Finland!
I will probably be commenting on all your videos but huge thanks to you. There are other great resources to teach out there but a lot of voiceover tutorials overlook the what and why and just say do. I've heard add compression, normalize, dynamics processing, graphic equalizers, parametric equalizers etc. over and over. As much as those help, I find myself not understanding what I should be listening for at each step and if it's actually improving my voiceovers or making them worse (like trying too hard). From someone who is creating these for his job at the same time as learning, these are extremely helpful. BTW the analogies help a ton.
I know it's 2020 but I'm just starting my journey within the music production world and your videos are so simple and straight to the point, and yet so detailed that it is impossible not to learn. Thank you very much sir. Best Regards from Italy, Carlo Augusto Pegoraro.
This is really helpful Oliver. If I am working with techno mix - should / can we use both normalize and compression? if so in what order? also what is a recommended db for compression for techno sets?
You are doing an amazing job, I was just editing my song in audacity and ended up here for compressing the highs and lows in my phone recorded song. This helped me a lot.
Hi Oliver, just stumbled upon your channel and your videos are super helpful. Do you have any videos that goes in depth with the 'Dynamics' tool? Or are the compressor videos generally explain that already?
Also what order of steps should you approach editing audio? I watched another video of yours where you did 1. Noise Reduction 2. Single Band Compressor 3. DeEsser 4. Parametric Equalizer 5. Hard Limiter Is that the standard order of steps for approaching (let's say an interview piece) audio?
Yo! Thanks man - I've never made a video about the Dynamics tool specifically but that's a great idea. And for your signal chain order - yes I've found that order to make the most sense - noise reduction is most effective before compression because of the way compression manipulates the dynamic range, and if a de-esser is needed, I always go before the EQ, just so I can control the tone for the rest of the chain (since the de-esser is manipulating specific frequencies.) And always end on the limiter!
Hi Oliver, This is super helpful. Really appreciate it. Dynamics tutorial would be awesome! Also just followed you on Twitter. Looking forward to more content! Thanks!
Great quality video. Glad there will be 4 more videos covering audio, one of the hardest aspects of editing for me to learn right now. Especially because i use audio sources I didn't record myself. Do you use compression only on voiceover/dialogue or do you use it on music too? Will check out your other videos now and subbed of course, didn't expect such a well made video.
Thanks man! I will use it on everything that needs it, to be honest - that rarely includes music because the tracks I edit with are already fully produced. I will use compression on the master channel though to pull everything together!
Dude. This is amazing. Thank you so much. Definitely got a sub from me and I know this is from 2017 but still. Your explanation was simple and efficient. Really appreciate it man!
Do you mix with compressors in your videos? Have you ever set the knee??
This series has been so helpful. 6 years later and it's still relevant. Great evergreen content.

Such an underrated channel. I'm learning all my audio from this. Film makers starting out in audio should all subscribe to this channel.
Thank you for saying that!

Finally, I'm still with you ! 👏😜
Well done Oliver.Keep up good works.
so more the ratio, more is the compression right?
Hey Oli, You are doing such a wonderful work.Good luck you.
Dude can you do one episode on using the compressor on the H6? I hope it’s not a really dumb request
Not a dumb request! I’ll make one
Oliver J Hughes cheers bro :) I think you have a great way of explaining complex topics and I’m joining your family 😊
Excellent work.I'm really interesting.
THE BEST video about compression I've ever seen! Thank you!
That’s incredible! Thanks!
Top information, quite clear and understandable, thanks!
Thank you so much for the awesome details.
That was a really fantastic explanation.
I thought I would never get these professional words into my mind :D

Absolutely great video! This demystifies the compressor for me. It's time to start putting that in :D
Dang, pumped to hear that PedalStomper! KEEP COMPRESSING
Awesome work mate I did 1 year of advanced diploma of sound production and you teach this stuff so well!
