I love the fact that the owner is strict enough to keep him on healthy diet. I've seen people overfeeding their cats and happily calling them chonky when its actually obese. I've watched same issues in a show about uncontrollable cat, they get the cat more active by playing more with him. Maybe it triggered by their hunting instinct.

I wouldn't want to accept food spread everywhere all over in my whole house or clean after my pet every 5 mins. This cat died. Had cancer. The overactive appetite was a symptom. The video opens by saying there was medical reason to explain his appetite, but in fact there was, and the owners should have gotten him checked out.
Claycat4 not necessarily, our cat Jojo was definitely not a rescue and got his ass kicked by the neighbour's cat and wound up with a clipped ear from that fight. Maybe the same happened to Trekkie?
i had a foster just like this. got into literally everything. when i picked him up from the shelter he had every parasite imaginable. no matter how much he ate he never felt full. he had a lot of trauma around food we had to work with. so it's not their fault. no matter how much i you feed them they're just scared of starving again
I don't think it has so much to do with them being strays all the time, some cats just have this personality. My niece had a kitty named Pinky that she got from her uncle when his cat had kittens, so the cat was raised by my niece as soon as she was able to leave her mom and the cat was exactly like this. She would eat anything lol. My niece loves hot cheetos and would see the kitty getting into brand new bags of hot cheetos lol and ate them even though they were spicy. One time I was eating prickly pears at her house and Pinky stole half of one lol. Some cats are just food-obsessed!
When my ginger began acting this way, we had him tested for diabetes. He was on insulin for 10 years before he passed at the age of 17. I still miss him everyday.
You are a good cat parent and I’m sorry for your loss, I’m sure he’s chilling at Rainbow Bridge right now with all the other fur babies, where the weather is always perfect for sunbathing and the bowl is always full while he waits for you 💙🐱💙
I'm sure he's been tested more than likely he's been through every test because you can tell they love their cat with all of their heart and would do anything for him so more than likely he has been tested.
My cat had a thyroid condition and she was slowly starving to death, even though she was on medication, they lose weight rapidly, but he doesn't look like he's losing weight. Unfortunately, he did pass away from a condition, and it was because of the reason he ate so much, I feel so sad for this cat and his family.
Glad you got him on medication, and he had a long life My Miss Kitty developed feline peritonitis, and there was nothing to be done. I miss her everyday, too.😿
Because his ear is clipped, that means he was a stray and the city fixed him and clipped the ear and then released him. That means he's been living on his own as a scavenger for years. That's why he goes for the food.
Yes. I have a cat that only lived five months of his life on the streets but his habits have never left him. He’s inhales his food and then attempts to bury his bowl by flipping it or digging up my carpet 🤬 God love him though sweet boy ❤️
i thought that at first too, but if you look closely, it isn't clipped. the tip of that ear is just flopping down. it's interesting though, because i've never seen a cat with an ear like that

It's really sad that he passed away. My cat had a thyroid condition and she was slowly starving to death over time. Even though she was on medication, she lost weight rapidly and was hungry. All of the time, it was horrible, she went through a lot before she died and I had to put her down, which absolutely destroyed me because that was my little girl, but more than likely these people knew so we just don't know because it was a 3 minute video, if they knew or not, but they probably did. I rescued a stray Siamese boy who was this food obsessed and could open packages. I had essentially "raccoon proofed" my kitchen. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who had to constantly come up with new ways to keep a cat out of food!
I'm helping stray cats a lot of times and sadly this is exactly their behaviour (most of them), maybe this cat was a stray before.. Glad now he's living with such a loving family❤️💕
So sad 😭 Yes I had a cat with this behaviour too, he had been living outdoors for some years not knowing where his next meal was coming from before he came to live with us, but he was the most loving kitty I’ve ever known.
Food obsession in cats can happen for several reasons. It’s NOT because of their personality. Usually it’s because they didn’t have access to enough food while very young. The cure is to always leave food out in their bowl. They will over eat at first, but when it hits them they won’t be going hungry, they will eat normally. I rescued two cats with this issue.
@@pennylane4471 No they didn't. Even with feral cats, the only way to "re-train" them is getting them used to scheduled meals (with plenty of food available each time you feed), supplementing the food with extra nutrients and probiotics; exercise and occupying them plenty and potentially pheremone therapy. Our cats also have access to kibble at all times and eat when they feel like it, but this doesn't work for all cats and some might get obese. It's also an idea to regulate the hunger though in the first few weeks, if the scheduled feeding doesn't work. ADDITION: I just read he had cancer which is another reason to explain excessive hunger!
We have one like that. He gets into EVERYTHING and drives us half crazy, but he's also the SWEETEST, most AFFECTIONATE cat I've ever met in my life, so it's impossible to stay upset with him. I think he knows that and uses it to his advantage, but I have no proof. 🥰😻
The reason he’s so obsessed with food is because he has food insecurity. Based on his tipped ear it’s probably fair to say he was a feral/outdoor cat at some point in his life. Sadly most feral/outdoor cats don’t usually get fed enough or have to compete with other cats or animals for food. Having to compete for food can cause some cats to develop food insecurity, where they feel a manic need to eat anything and everything because they’re scared It’ll be taken away, or they won’t get enough.
I'm so glad someone acknowledged this in a response. My family has a dog like this who was a stray at one time. It's cute, but there's a PTSD in it, a desperation. He's also thin. They're saying, " No reason for him to act this way." I'm assuming they've tested for hyperthyroidism...
i would feed the poor kitteh then, until it was semi fat, i live with a cat here, he is a little fat, but i think thats ok! i'd rather have an animal thats small bit overweight, then underweight!
Yeah this couple definitely has no idea (or are in denial) that this cat needs some behavioral help. He must feel stressed all the time due to this food obsession and they are just playing it for jokes, or not even trying to properly stop him. This video was not funny, it was sad.
"welcome to the impossible mission force. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to retrieve food from every container in the house." Trekkie: "you need to rethink your definition of 'impossible'." (Burp)
This cat died. Had cancer. The overactive appetite was a symptom. The video opens by saying there was medical reason to explain his appetite, but in fact there was, and the owners should have gotten him checked out.
Our cat was like that, too. He'd even get to a bread loaf, dig it out, and tear open the wrapping to eat the bread. Turned out he had a tape worm. Took two treatments to get it all out. It took time for him to heal but afterwards he stopped doing that.
I think this cat could be a former feral who didn’t used to know where his next meal was coming from! That’s what his ear makes me think, that he came out of a feral colony.
That's right, when they catch and spay or neuter a feral cat, they snip off the tip of their ear so they don't have to go through all that process again. I think you are exactly right. He's been through starvation and now is stuck on "FIND FOOD" mode. I had a rescue dog like that. It happens to people too. Periods of severe malnutrition can get people stuck in 'find food' mode. If you feed kids junk food with nothing but empty calories, it happens to them too. It's sad this issue isn't recognized as a real and serious issue.
I have seven cats and tbe baby just learned to climb the garbage can to the counter by the stove ! Too young for counter ! Too dumb too know hot ! I usually had the counter as a last milestone !
Me too, our cat jumped onto our cooktop when it was still hot. Luckily she was ok, but we are now diligent of putting a lid over the hot burner until it cools off. She has never jumped up there again, but just in case. I’m sure they lock him up when they are boiling things.

I named my cat "engineer". He learns to open everything on his own: doors (even the slide door), kitchen cabinet, etc. Now even the AC, he would just go there and explore things inside using his feet. Luckily it was always in my sight so no big worry.
Was he starved as a kitten? I rescued a kitten who was malnourished and starved. She is letting go of food obsessed behavior bit by bit as she grows in security. My brother had a dog with a very similar story,
My cat was like that. Born on the streets and despite being tiny and thin she had a phase where she'd eat her own weight in ham. It was cooked ham that set her off. Wore off after a few months. This one seems to be a bit more extreme case.

Food-stress/insecurity can be a real thing for some cats, especially those that were rescued or came from a place where they had to compete with other cats for food.
I wonder if he's more insecure because he's sharing the household with other cats, when he might be less stressed if he was the only kitty/pet? I'm sure the owners knew what they were doing, but the poor bud does seem rather stressed

The poor thing...we always kept his food dish full so that he never had to worry about that again. I thought the same thing...this cat suffers from food insecurity fear. He must have been starved previously : ( That is why he attacks food and gets whatever he can. Bless this family for taking him in but it's not a laughing matter. He's scared of not eating.
Perhaps one way to satisfy his instincts would be to turn getting his food into an enrichment activity? Put his food in a pet toy so he can break into that and eat it. There's puzzle toys that you can load up with food for them to find, or even stuffable cat toys that you can fill with food or catnip for example.
He's a beautiful ginger that's why lol I have had gingers all my life and no matter the personality, they really put the curiosity in cat. They are so inquisitive and adaptable. They can be so independent and sweet they always get up to something.
I must say I'm very worried about him and pans with hot fat... That's a pretty demanding cat to have round the house. I'll never be bothered by my little boy begging for a couple of mouthfuls of my dinner again 🤣
Had three cats and two dogs that would steal from plates. Moved out and got a new cat. She won’t touch human food (six months old, am the second owner, so not the result of training!!) even if given it. I’ve tried cat treats, ham, turkey, etc. She likes her cat food and that’s it. It’s kind of nice being able to leave food on the recliner while I use the restroom or get a soda and coming back to it untouched. HOWEVER, she wants to sniff it. She will not eat it but she gets offended if I don’t let her sniff it.
I had a cat, usually quite timid and not at all overweight, actually surprise me by grabbing a bite of pork roast right out of my mouth once. Just climbed up my chest and stuck her head in my surprised open mouth and just took it! Wonderful of these people to be so patient and understanding with this one.
I had a cat named Cricket, who I took in with all his litter mates when he was 2 wks old. He was exactly like this. Best cat I ever had. Loved baked goods!
This might seems funny, but it's gonna get this clever little guy severely hurt. Some day, he might pull a pan full of scalding food onto himself. I hope they can keep him away from the stove while they prepare food.
That's possible, but I saw another video where a cat will climb an electric fence when the electricity is off, but not when it's on. If cat's can sense EM radiation, they've got to be able to sense heat. I mean, WE sense heat and we don't have the senses most animals do.
He’s the cutest.. he’s such a mood 🤣 I have to bring food and water right in front of my cat in order for her to eat.. she literally will not step a few inches to her bowls.. no joke.. she is that spoiled! I could imagine how entertaining that household is with Trekkie ❤️
what's interesting is that he doesn't seem to be overweight despite being food crazy. His clipped ear also indicate being a former stray and would explain his behavior.
@@bobograndman I've seen the specs on a cat feeder like that one; about a half cup is the smallest dump they will set for, unless you load it individually for each feeding. He was livid when I caught him and took it away from him but it has onions in it. Him having a big meatball in his mouth is like us trying to hold a grapefruit in our mouths. He did the same thing with half a spring role which is just cabbage, carrots & rice noodles. He has incredible sense of smell too. He knows if leftovers one of the foods hes likes has been thrown in the trash. He dug up part of a spring roll I threw out from the garbage. Chip and Calvin are both smart, affectionate & loyal cats which I am grateful for. They are freaking naughty boys to the nth degree though. You can’t help but laugh.
So please make sure you are careful with certain foods and your cats. Make sure they aren’t near hot liquids or foods. Also we need to empty those shelters! Adopt and save a life!
This cats owners are causing his obsession with that limited cat feeder.
I've never seen a cat so greedy. I love him
We have one like that. He gets into EVERYTHING and drives us half crazy, but he's also the SWEETEST, most AFFECTIONATE cat I've ever met in my life, so it's impossible to stay upset with him. I think he knows that and uses it to his advantage, but I have no proof. 🥰😻

1boredcanadian, 😂😂😂😂😂
If you're a bad owner, yes. My cats never acted like this because they were well behaved and had education.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's what I was thinking too. I was just too stoned to type it all out
i would feed the poor kitteh then, until it was semi fat, i live with a cat here, he is a little fat, but i think thats ok! i'd rather have an animal thats small bit overweight, then underweight!
Yeah this couple definitely has no idea (or are in denial) that this cat needs some behavioral help. He must feel stressed all the time due to this food obsession and they are just playing it for jokes, or not even trying to properly stop him. This video was not funny, it was sad.

Same. I've seen many strays with tipped ears around the apartments I used to work at. Most of them were such sweethearts
It’s kind of nice being able to leave food on the recliner while I use the restroom or get a soda and coming back to it untouched. HOWEVER, she wants to sniff it. She will not eat it but she gets offended if I don’t let her sniff it.
Also have to be careful about having food that is toxic to cats.
@@redfailhawk thats so cutee😭
@@redfailhawk She eats via smell.
OMG, this cat is hilarious! I'm glad you're so good natured about it.
He needs some serious playtime with humans. Get him tired as possible. Maybe helps. But then again....so cute! Gotta love cats!
I loved watching his antics. Such a crazy, sweet, goofy cat. May you Rest in Peace! No more pain. Thanks for all the laughs, Trekkie! 🐈❤️🐈
He's gone? Is there a thread/ channel please?
@@ddavies1967 Yes, he died of lymphoma. He was on TikTok. There is a link in the description for you, if you would like to check it out.
@@SeriMoSway Thanks. Never looked at Tiktok, will have a look later.
@@SeriMoSway My Ziggy just went a similar way (AIHA). Heart breaking to lose a friend.
They have a genius level cat! They are lucky.
This might seems funny, but it's gonna get this clever little guy severely hurt. Some day, he might pull a pan full of scalding food onto himself. I hope they can keep him away from the stove while they prepare food.
I just went to the linked account. He had cancer...😪
@@LindaC616 you’re kidding me :,(((
@@justlikehoney1859 I wish! It made me laugh so hard that I wanted to see more of him and now I'm sad
It's so sad. He was so loved. 😿
That's possible, but I saw another video where a cat will climb an electric fence when the electricity is off, but not when it's on. If cat's can sense EM radiation, they've got to be able to sense heat. I mean, WE sense heat and we don't have the senses most animals do.
He’s the cutest.. he’s such a mood 🤣
I have to bring food and water right in front of my cat in order for her to eat.. she literally will not step a few inches to her bowls.. no joke.. she is that spoiled! I could imagine how entertaining that household is with Trekkie ❤️
what's interesting is that he doesn't seem to be overweight despite being food crazy. His clipped ear also indicate being a former stray and would explain his behavior.
Since they prevent him from getting a lot it’s like his effort to get the food is so much of a workout that he burns all the calories lmao
@@bobograndman I've seen the specs on a cat feeder like that one; about a half cup is the smallest dump they will set for, unless you load it individually for each feeding. And our "Lady of the Voice" said the feeder feeds five times a day- that would be two and a half cups of cat food. I would suspect Trekkie and his buddy are both from feral backgrounds- the second cat looked to be a binge eater too. And not skinny either. Looked like they got just the sort of home to flourish in! FR
parasites will keep anyone lean,lol
My cat eats everything if she gets the chance. We feed her every 2-3 hours. She still loses weight shes diabetic
He had cancer.
Shows you how smart cats are. Ingenius when they need to be.
Get this cat food puzzles. Every kind of food puzzle possible!
Where's Jackson Galaxy when you need him.
Trekkie is a food container HACKER. It looks like he does it more for the challenge and to demonstrate his superior intelligence, than for the food reward. Maybe he could find employment with a security company, testing their vaults and safeguarding protocols.
Yesss 🙌🐱
He’s so handsome.
Is this kitty a rescue from the streets? He might have a food scarcity anxiety if that was the case
That's what I was thinking as well.
He looked like he had some old scars. It's very possible
Gingers have a gene that make them love food. You can Google that. Very interesting. He literally cannot help himself because it's part of his genetics!😆

WOW *TURBO* (grunt)
I hated cats until my daughters brought a kitty home. Now I'm OBSESSED with that cat. i spend alot of money and time with that cat
That's part of their plan for world domination and you fell for it!
Cats seriously are such great additions to human lives.
Trekkie must have been a foodie all his life in his last birth and is now incarnated as a cat so the trait continues albeit in a different way! I think it’s give in or give up whichever way Trekkie has a way out! Appreciate his innovative mind!❤❤
This is one of the hard parts of having an intelligent cat. Those little food puzzles are a godsend. They help entertain that curiosity and they involve food. It's a win win. One of my cats has a lot of energy and they are great for her.
