Helen Slater (Supergirl, The Legend of Billie Jean) joins us this week to talk about her experience being thrust into the iconic role of Supergirl at 18 years old and the many different pressures and difficulties that came along with it. Helen was so open this week - she gets candid about her desire to act and the deep fulfillment that she receives in studying mythology. We also talk about her deep bond with Helen Hunt, the hurdle she had to cross to get her parents’ acceptance for acting, and memories of iconic scenes while appearing in Smallville.

HELEN SLATER Reflects On What She Saw On Set with FAYE DUNAWAY #insideofyou #helenslater #fayedunaway
The title of this clip should have been: The Guy Who Talks about Himself While Helen Slater is in the Room.
He's definitely a Conversational Narcissist, that's why i bail after he interrupts and the conversation goes back to him in almost every interview.
You are dead on. He's probably the male version of Faye Dunaway
@@rickECU No more interviews for me!
Exactly...I was interested in the interaction between Helen and Faye and this guy barely let her speak... won't bother with this channel again...lol
Hey. Show Lex Luther respect!!!
He likes the sound of his own voice, doesn't he? Try letting the guest talk!
Conversational Narcissist
As a child, Helen Slater was for me the most beautiful woman on earth. Supergirl was the first movie I remember seeing. Love her in Ruthless People.
I LOVE Ruthless People!! She was fantastic!!!
She was fine as hell in "Legend of Billie Jean" .. That scene where they're at the lake .. Holy moly
@garethjd78 Same here: after seeing her in Supergirl - I was 'off my food in love' with Helen Slater (my non appetite must've lasted for over a week)!!
😂😂
I worked at a restaurant in Portland, Oregon that was popular with visiting celebrities and I waited on many of them, from Madonna to Uma Thurman to Coach Phil Jackson, and many others. One day I had the misfortune to wait on Faye Dunaway. She was cold from the jump. Asked about every single ingredient in every dish and was disappointed with each one. Finally she settled on a salad but wanted her own custom dressing which we tried to duplicate. She nixed at least 3 attempts to make a salad dressing she liked. She must have seen the frustration in my face, as naturally I was in the weeds with several other tables, so she said, I don’t think you and I are going to get along are we? I replied, no I don’t think we are and I will get you a different server. She was just cold and screwed up tight from the second she came in.
There is no excuse for that level of conceitedness. What a vile sounding person she is.
Wow thanks for sharing
What was Madonna like?
Did she start screaming "No wire hangers, ever!!!"?
@@exbroncomommy dearest 😂
I only hope I look half as good at 60 as Helen Slater.
does the "interviewer" ever shut up and let the "interviewe" get a full sentence in ? Damn, call this sh*t "inside of me" dude.
It's the podcast age. People aren't interviewed anymore. They chat the joe Rogan way
Hey, better put some respeck on Rosey's name!
Yeah spent most of the time talking about himself
He’s really a fan boy.
I met her when I worked on The Legend of Billie Jean (my first role…. Elizabeth Taylor was actually walking around the set) and Helen was super nice and sweet in the few minutes I spoke with her.
You were an extra?
They used to play that on HBO all the time when I was a kid, I liked it
On of my favorite movies. Thank you for sharing. H.S. is still smoking hot.
What was Liz Taylor doing there?
@@BeriBeri-pq6hkI played the surfer being interviewed
She looks amazing, one of my favorites growing up .Supergirl was great ,but The legend of Billie Jean is one of my all time favorite movies .
That sweet and comforting voice is one of many reasons why she was a great Supergirl.
Loved Faye in 'Mommie Dearest'! It is a camp classic that I rewatch every year. "NO WIRE HANGERS! EVER!"
May as well have Property of MGM tattooed on my backside!!
i might've known you'd know where to find the boys - and the booze!
Helen looks fab...love her in Ruthless people and of course Supergirl.
Helen looks amazing at nearly 60. Legend Of Billie Jean is still a regular watch if its on!
The Legend of Billie Jean was Helen Slater's best film.
Agreed!!!
She sounds tired.
Always big fan of Helen Slater - loved her in Ruthless People and City Slickers.
I'm always so impressed with actors in Hollywood who aren't afraid to grow old gracefully. It's such a superficial industry sometimes, and we can all tell when the botox and plastic surgery went wrong.
Faye grown old gracefully she still looks beautiful
yep. But does she still work in Hollywood? Didn't see much of her since Supergirl
My father was Faye Dunaways mothers insurance agent in Bascomb Florida in the early 1980s. Dorothy Faye is her real name. Two egg is where Dorothy Faye grew up. She later attended Leon High School. Was in drama and did cheerleading.
Supergirl and Legend of Billie Jean - Perfect, flawless, especially for first films. She was one of my first memories of the 80s
Let HELEN TALK about awesome FAYE DUNAWAY! A'int nobody wanna hear the old guy's gibberish.
Wow, at 60, Helen is still a smoke show! I always thought she was an underated talent.
It’s ironic she and Hellen Hunt are friends cause when I see one I think hey there’s the other
It’s nuts. I would melt in front of her.
Not a snarky question: Is "a smoke show" an expression, or something you made up? I like it.
@@akrenwinkleIt’s an expression that’s been around for sometime.😊
The lesson is NOT to "always trust the DP"! The lesson is Faye made sure that she was lit properly, something that goes back to the earliest days of film-making, especially for women, when all of the great stars had their own cameramen who knew how to photograph them. There's a new documentary about Faye Dunaway and it actually starts with her in the present day, looking old, and being a very fussy and snotty perfectionist about the lighting. And this goes on and on, very awkward and uncomfortable to watch.......and then suddenly, *voila*, she looks fantastic, she looks exactly like Faye Dunaway. She was right all along! And she's now relaxed and friendly, being interviewed. Good documentary, great actress. If she was a nightmare to work with, what do I care? Doesn't change Bonnie And Clyde or Chinatown or Network or Barfly one bit! Nobody could be worse than Peter Sellers.
Love Faye Dunaway, despite the many who gripe about her on set antics.
Faye is an absolute goddess and an incredible actress. I love her too despite what some might say about her
It's not just on set ...she's an asshole to service people and others!
It’s possible to separate the creation from the creator. Michael Jackson was a masterful entertainer.
@@harty4653"absolute goddess" 😂 good grief people are so sad and weird these days😢
Good interviewers occasionally allow the guest to speak. This guy is far too impressed with himself.
Good to know Faye has just opened up about her bipolar disorder which explains.... a lot... She is/was a very talented and complicated actress not unlike Joan Crawford which makes watching Mommy Dearest more than just a singular character study/Turkey Shoot that it is...
Helen is still beautiful.
When she played Christian Slater's sister in "The Legend of Billie Jean" in 1985, most folks thought they were both siblings, but they are not related.
In Faye's defence - she was not some ordinary movie star. She is possibly the last great *face* of the movies. She was epically and uniquely stunning.
Exactly. Her and Sharon Tate were some of the last women that came out of the studio system. They had the studios behind them, but times were changing.
And yet there exist people of striking beauty who are not assholes.
Grow up😂😂😂 there's nothing special about actors at all
Agree. Dunaway was brilliant in Network. She deserved the Oscar.
William Holden bawled her out on the set of Towering Inferno for being repeatedly late (apparently he got very close to her and was screaming in her face he was so furious) She meekly showed up on time for the rest of the shoot.
secret of my success is such an underrated movie
I was a waiter in L.A. and Faye Dunaway would come in regularly. She was a lot a fun. Very sweet and funny. Also quite beautiful. Dunaway was one of the best tippers too. Some of the nasty stars that came in were Streep(cold), Fonda(conceited), Streisand(living nightmare and ugly). None of them gave good tips either.
WOW! That's cool! You are the first service person that I've heard say something positive about her. I met her once outside the stage door when she was touring with Master Class and she was great.
I’m curious how long ago Streisand was. It seems like James Brolin calmed her down a lot, but I could be wrong. I’m not a big fan of Streep but is it possible “cold” was actually just shy? I think a lot of shy people in their personal lives can come off as cold and aloof when it’s not that.
I am not surprised in the least that Jane Fonda is conceited, she comes across as very uptight and probably very similar to her character on Grace and Frankie
I’m surprised about Meryl Streep, was she that bad ?
Why would we care if Streisand is "ugly"? What bearing does that have on her quality as a customer or human being? Just comes off super petty.
Faye commented on lighting. That’s all you need to know if you’re only into the clickbait title
I can't imagine anyone would think for a split second that Helen Slater would say anything ungracious about anybody, which makes the title even more ridiculous
I've loved her since I became besotted with her after Supergirl.
Amazing
Exactly!!
Helen is SO BEAUTIFUL ❤
In terms age, we should just learn to look forward and enjoy the moment. Sadly a lot of people don't
Favorite Helen Hunt: Her with Harold Ramos as a doctor in As Good As It Get's. She is so natural.
Wrong Helen.
This is Helen Slater. But Helen Hunt was awesome in that movie. As was Jack Nicholson. A classic!
@@censorshipsucks9493 They talked about Helen Hunt in this interview , about how much they enjoy her work and the great advice she gave.
@@darreylhenderson702 Ah. I just saw the title. Didn't watch the video. I guess they double Helened up.
The title of this video should be: a narcissist who has his own radio show that love to take about him self
is in it the point of podcast?
Fun fact....Helen slater was horrid to work with and be with on the set if Legend of billie jean
Quite a few cast and extras she was horrid to over the years gave said is small interviews and tid bits.
I am thinking maybe its because suoergirl flopped and she thought this movie was going to be her big movie
Too much talkin dude. Let the guest talk
The Legend of Billie Jean
So the interviewer spends way too much time telling Helen why he doesn't look as attractive for his age as she does, while assuring her that he could if he wanted.
Helen Slater was always stunning - so incredibly innocent in Ruthless People and sexy in A House in the Hills. But I'm blown away by what she looks like how beautiful and natural she looks in her 60s.
Unfortunately, Hollywood is still a youth obsessed business. Like Goldie Hawn's character said to her plastic surgeon in The First Wives Club..."There are only three ages for women in Hollywood: Babe, District Attorney, and Driving Miss Daisy."
Lol
Men are also judged for their looks in Hollywood and outside of the Acting Business. In Hollywood- if you are very Good looking and an OK Actor- you are a leading man. if YOu are not so great looking, but a very talented Actor- you become a Character Actor.
@@HoldenNY22 That's true of male actors but female actors still have to fight harder, especially when they get older, to get roles. Unless they're able to create projects for themselves to act in. Older actors like James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Lawrence Oliver, John Wayne, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Lian Nieson, Patrick Stewart, they were still getting major film roles when they got older, but Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Sophia Loren, Shirley McClaine, Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, they had to struggle because the parts they could play were given to younger women. Hell, most recently actress Charlize Theron told a story about receiving a call when they were first casting for the 2017 Wonder Woman movie. But they were calling her about playing Wonder Woman...they were interesting in her playing Wonder Woman's mother!
He is a god awful interviewer. He interrupts and then says to her “anyway, continue “ terrible
The gushing screechy host is not making it easy to listen to this
The host is TALKING TOO MUCH
Supergirl was one of my favorites when I was a kid! Such a great movie. I feel like the attitude about much older actresses is substantially improving. Look at all the British dames still killing it -- Maggie Smith, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench -- just to name a few. Betty White is still a cult favorite. And who is going to stick their nose up at Meryl Streep or Jamie Lee Curtis? I think we're finally appreciating older women in movies and TV. ♥
Hate Helen a zio
This is probably the LEAST interesting interview about Faye Dunaway.
Faye Dunaway was not just an award winning actress, she was a big movie star.
Academy Award Winner 🏆
I’m sure it’s nice and cozy up in that mansion with nothing but her awards and money to hug nice and tight.
"was" being the key word
Orson Wells was huge also
She's a sad tired yawn🥱 Wouldn't trade places with her for 5X her wealth
No make up, no plastic surgery, humble, down to earth, almost 60, but still hella attractive and still hot. She’s the best looking 60 year old woman I have ever seen. Had a crush on her as a teen and still find her attractive.
This. She is still absolutely stunning. I was born in 1981, and her in Supergirl was one of my very first celebrity crushes.
I think Faye dunaway is awesome Supergirl 1984 she looks hot has a redhead you show it all the time on TV when I kid😊
What a hottie!! Still have that high school crush on Helen Slater. Go Lady!!
I ADORE Helen Slater!!!
This Guy actually thinks that he is entertaining and funny, go figure. I would have rather heard from the guest
What a goddess.
Geez dude. Stop talking about yourself - you have a guest
I love Faye Dunaway. She is no more of a monster than most of the men she worked with. Give it back to them sis!
Clickbaity title + a host who won't stop blabbing = No thank you.
he talks too much.
"Because we're dying!" 🤣🤣🤣❤️
Yeah, this dude talks too much. Yuck😮
Being 40 in Hollywood, yes she knew lighting good or bad ! I can't blame her for that, she's smart
The other day I
Looked into a mirror
I seen my grandpa
From 1969
Stopped watching when she admitted to being friends with Helen Hunt.
Why?
Helen hunt is so annoying thank goodness she's a has been now.
hey michael, can you be more fawning? barf
Always got the feeling she was classy and now i know it Helen does seem like the best of us.
Stop interrupting your guests
Host keeps talking over guest :/
What guest?
Helen! Still gorgeous!
That's ridiculous to say that Faye Dunaway was a perfectionist with lighting because she was aging. She probably has more refined sensitivities to lighting variables and how they impact how you look on camera. I would not assume it was age.
It was. I’m reading a book about the making of “Mommie Dearest” and she’s doing the exact same thing in that film from multiple sources. There were both cast and crew that flat out refused to work with her again.
@@TheIndependentLens You claim it was because of her age, but you then don't provide any evidence from the book that it was because of her age. Fail.
So true about just getting older and adjusting to that, man or woman. I am in my 60's and yet, in my mind, I still think I'm 40...until I look in a mirror....and I'm like, "ugh..."
Faye Dunaway was a great actress with a glow not so many people have. Was she really that complicated? Would be nice to hear a supporting story drom her.
Helen is such a class act, so glad that they brought her back for the Supergirl TV series.
Betty Davis talked about Fay Dunaway. It was bad.
Everyone that worked with Bette Davis will tell you a horror story about her.
@@BoBo-ti6jhJoan Collins said Bette was very mean to work with. So, I can see why Faye might've tried to avoid Miss Davis and it was taken out of context.
More Colin Hunt than Helen Hunt.
Is that Dean McDermott interviewing Helen Slater??? I didn't know he had a podcast!
I think with the like of Helen Hunt and Helen Slater genetics places a big part and they look good without the makeup and are obviously confident without it, so when the aging process starts they do not rush to surgery and enjoy life and family
I'll have whatever she's having.
Wow, this guy is an awful interviewer lol.
His reaction to her saying she’s 60 was cringe lol.
Barbra Streisand learned lighting in her first movie.
Trust me, Michael, you look older than last year and the year before and so on. Men age just like women but they still hold women to a strange standard of not being allowed to age. And more men get botox and fillers but never talk about it.
Chinatown!
Notes for the interviewer:
Ssssssssshhh 🤫
Have to disagree with the host. To each their own. Some people love working out. I'm 59 and train at the gym and also train in Martial Arts for decades. I also take care of my skin and have no wrinkles. To me it's all about self respect. It's about health and mental well being. It's maintenance. It also teaches discipline. I don't want to look old and I don't. No idea who Helen Slater is but she looks familiar.
Agree with you. It's a choice one makes considering their conditions they are in. Helen Slater used to be quite a popular actress in the 80's among younger audiences. Supergirl and The Legend of Billie Jean were her big break movies. Haven't seen anything with her post 80's thou.
The Great Late Bette Davis said she was the worst to work with and never again. They made a TV movie in 1976 i believe. Johnny Carson asked her who was the worst. She didnt say Crawford. She said Faye Dunaway.
Davis was probably not a party of fun to work with in his old days. Dunaway was at his pinnacle in 1976, Davis was a souvenir by then. Probably she resented what she used to have: fame and youth.
Listen to brenda vacarro she said in a interview exactly what faye was like...and it was not good
Who decided there can only be one kind of 'pretty'?
Love your show a fan from Owensboro ky.
Can he just shut up and let her talk.
I love how she handled that question about Faye. If she said nothing we would know that she was lying. She chose a pretty low level comment about lighting. You know for a fact she has other stories. Even Brenda Viccaro talked about Faye's diva behavior on that set.
She reminds me of #LindsayWagner
I don’t care, even at almost 60 I would still clap them cheeks…. Supergirl was ❤️
She is not a girl anymore, but she looks Super!
I worked at a Vip event at this hotel and met Faye Dunaway in 2009 and 2011.
How was she? Was she nasty to you and/or other Staff and People in General at the Event?
As soon as we're conceived, we start dying.
Everything does.
I like how Slater didnt acknowledge him when he said "you look great" afer saying her age.
If we ignore the "you look great for age" crap, women will be better off
When I see Helen on anything today,in my eyes I still see her as Billy Jean. She was so young and pretty, still is to me.
Faye was just 42 when filming Supergirl. Good looking woman but perhaps she aged a bit prematurely with super heavy smoking. But still had amazing bone structure and was a beautiful woman at 42. Surgereons have done a number on her since then 😖 Helen is a natural beauty. Gorgeous in Supergirl and still gorgeous now.
I feel that Faye’s surgery wasn’t terrible into the 90s/2000s (although she looked a bit like a different person) but in her 70s and 80s… it has certainly caught up with her
This woman was one of, if not my first movie star crush! Talk about aging gracefully! She still looks great. I would love to be in a Helen sandwich with her and Helen Hunt!
I love the guests he has on, unique with unique stories - but he panders too much during the interview.
Awful host
Bc we're dying lol! That is a great way of thinking cause you could it have that make you depressed or appreciate the limited time we have and make the most of it, each are valid lol
Great Story ❤
Helen remains an extraordinary beauty...long may it be so.
helen slater said what i have been saying for years we start dying from the day we are born i believe we are put on earth to do something
and when we do that our time is over
