This video was worth watching just for the bell on the front of the cabin. Your innovations (like the drying racks) are brilliant. Well done sir, well done.
This is just perfection! Everything just fits perfectly, I love the woodbox as a big log basket and fire implements do take up space. I just love how well it's thought out! Great clothes dryer! The pully rack is a miniature version of one I have had in every home I have had. The little fan is a great idea. Excellent small solar setup too!
Absolutely inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing. I love everything about it. Especially the fact that it's not 'luxury ' AND is functional for Canadian weather.
This is exactly what I'd like to build only 10 x 12. Thanks for the great info and inspiration - you've given me lots of great ideas. One of the best videos I've watched about small cabin builds - thanks!
8x12 (less than 100 sq ft) meant I didn't need a building permit, wouldn't see any increase in taxes on our property, nor did I need to follow any building code requirements, otherwise I'd have likely gone just a bit bigger too. Thanks for the kind words and good luck with your own build.
Thanks! those are all the reasons I'm constrained to 120 sq ft - there aren't many videos that show builds in that range, so it's great to see how you fit your whole family in that space
I’m building an 8x12 on my property in Alaska (that size just because I’m poor and need to be out of the rain as soon as possible in something that a bear has to work for a few minutes to get inside in case I am sleeping when he decides he wants in)... it’s nice to see someone who already did that size in such a successful manner. Lots of great ideas, thanks for showing them to us, hopefully I’ll be able to do half as good of a job on my remote site. AGAIN, GOOD JOB!
@@Rick_Sanchez_C137_ Very much appreciated, Rick. We definitely feel a little more secure in here than we did in the camper when Mamma bear and her cubs are on the prowl each summer. But we're only concerned with little cuddly black bears down here in the parklands. Not sure it'd stand up to a grizzly's intentions. Haha. Good luck on getting your shelter up getting outta the rain!
There is a guy named Bendik Manum who designed a 12 by 12 cabin for himself. It has an excellent plan.If u Google him and click images it will come up. The plan is very good. Check it out.
I love this! It has a lot more character than some of the sheds/cabins models I reviewed on my channel. You really created some nice storage areas here without it looking cluttered!
I simply love your cabin and this video!!! Outstanding job!!! You gave me many ideas to think about. Thanks!!! Y’all take care, be safe and God bless!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas, USA. 🤠👨🌾✝️🙏🐩
At first i thought how does 96 square feet and the word "tour"even go together? You did not disappoint, this cabin is beyond amazing! You thought of everything, even how to dry out your snow pants which was exactly what i was thinking when you answered my question!😄
Thanks for the tour! I would recommend using a deep cycle battery for your power they are heavier but will supply more power and are design to be discharge more. For your heat at the roof you could also add a duct fan that would bring the air all the way down to the floor it would keep the noise down as well. Those little cubic stove are amazing indeed I was able to see one up close in my old camper van my buddy redid the inside and decided to get one of those as a heat source. Cheers!
Yup. We'll be upgrading the battery this year I suspect. I have thought about the ducting idea and may still do this as an upgrade yet. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is absolutely divine and lovely! I'm fascinated by the details! I'm in love with this darling cabin! I'd want a shower though, even if it was a "wet bathroom". Absolutely ingenious! Love the extra touches too! Simply divine!!! ❤️. And yes sir, I most definitely subbed!!!
I love this project. I'm considering to buy wooded vacation property & putting one of these in. I'd save motel $$ & could enjoy trekks in the woods. Fireside chats & visits with family too.
We've certainly never regretted it, Anna. For all those reasons and more. Thanks for watching! Lot's more in the Tiny Cabin series on our channel if you're interested. Cheers!
Thanks Les. As I say, lots of the layout design was borrowed from Dee Williams' tiny home. Check her out on google to see the inspiration for our tiny cabin.
You can get a compost toilet to fit in nice in there the barrel part would be on the out side of the cabin the toilet part would be on the inside. In 1994 out houses were no longer aloud at the lake my dad had the cabin at here in Manitoba. Reason was health reasons from the human waist so my dad got a compost toilet drilled the proper fitting through the floor and put the toilet together and its able to hold both waist. Just a thought if things change regarding outhouses in Sask.
Same size as mine ,yours is very well organized which is upmost importance to me. I live in mine year round north eastern Washington. I use straw bales around the peremitor for added insulation in the winter. R12 and vapor barrier in walls and ceiling plis an extra 2 inch foam board in ceiling rafters. Propane heater. No solar yet. Stay cozy ! R11 not 12.
If you're dying for a number two place a plastic bag in a bowl that sits in the loo. Do business, throw wood shavings into bag deposit into nappy bin just outside door for proper disposal at convenient time. Put a small slide open/close air vent in closet also. Love your place it's charming ✌️
anna 53 HAHa Excellent tip. I renovated my one bathroom aboit ten years ago, and this is what I did with my number two. In 3rd world country people call the plastic bags for number two; flying toilets. HAHA
You have alot of space up there. You could take some sturdy wood( or a wood pallet, free) put it on you're fully system and voila, extra food, clothes or whatever storage
Amazing! Four people in a 8 x 12 tiny cabin. I want to build one just for me and my wife, but she wouldn't go for one so small. It's a work in progress I guess.
Spectacular my fellow Canadian- good for you, and your family. Consider perhaps a composting toilet.. that would be just much more convenient. Thanks eh for sharing
Would love to do a proper composting toilet, but they're so expensive. We currently get about 125 days a year out there so I feel like it's a big investment at this point. Maybe someday.
@@HayWoodsandWetlands Geoff Lawton shows how to install a simple composting toilet on his UA-cam channel - not much different from your bucket, and just as cheap, if you're interested!
Very nice! You have a few things in there that I’d like to add to my cabin. ( Hideaway pantry, hanging rack, and door for my toilet room). I’ve been meaning to get them made but my husband does all the woodwork on it for now. I’m hoping to learn enough to use the saws to start making things myself soon.
I think if it was a full time living space it would need to be bigger, but for us we're here about a third of the year and most of that time is spent outside.

Do you have a video specific to your solar system? Love your tiny cabin & trying to talk my husband into building me one to replace our tent at our camp.
Exactly why did you build your cabin so small? For whatever reasons that you had for going so little, you have made the most of it. You have a lot of really fabulous ideas built into your place. You have definitely done your homework! There are too many to list here, but my favorite is the wood box. Well done!
Thanks for the kind words, Mary. The size was based on 2 criteria. First, budget. I had a VERY small budget for this place and couldn't afford to go much bigger. Second, (also related to budget) was the municipality's restrictions for building without a permit and without changing the taxes on our property. Currently our land is registered as agricultural so the taxes are only a few hundred dollars a year. If we take out a development permit and a building permit (required for anything over 100 sq ft) then we would not only have to pay for the permits and adhere to building codes and inspections, but we'd also be taxed as a residential property which would raise our annual land taxes to well over $1000, maybe $2000. Again, not something I can currently afford to do for a recreational property. hope this answers your questions, thanks for watching!
Should be covered in our build video here, Denise ua-cam.com/video/lnewtgCovFs/v-deo.html But I used basically whatever I could get my hands on cheaply. I think it's just r-12 in the walls and R-20 or 22 in the roof and floor.
And yes. We lose more heat out of the free windows and door than the rest. Easily keep it warm with the little stove and the propane furnace now helps keep it maintained through the night. see this video for heating system details ua-cam.com/video/a_Lb0RPZPag/v-deo.html
