The 1.0L engine was pretty reliable and tunable for hyundai, but again it was since 3 Cylinder and hence demanded higher maintenance so both hyundai and kia both decided to ditch it from the smaller cars with 5 speed manual/AMT and 100HP state of tune. The only known cars in which the engine is still available is hyundai i20/venue and kia sonet with 6 speed manual/7-speed DCT and 120HP state of tune.
I had the pre-facelift Picanto GT-Line until it was totaled by a Range Rover at a set of traffic lights (not my fault) Luckily I got out unscathed so I can vouch for the safety systems of the car. Replaced it with the updated Mazda 2 Evolve which as you would expect is in a different league. That said this Picanto model has 4 wheel disc brakes and centre armrest standard which is more that can be said with the Mazda 2. I was happy with the Picanto, nippy around town and plenty of space upfront. Easy to park and economical. For a tiny car it was smooth and comfortable. Love the new look and colours. Worldwide demand for the turbo was poor so it has been dropped from the Picanto range which is a real shame as the torque less 1.25 engine struggles to get out of its own way sometimes.

wow a 4-speed automatic, that's about as slow as my 5-speed AMT Picanto, the gear changes are very slow in that one, but at least it has a better gear ratio than the 4-speed. I heard that at least in Europe, Kia will cut down the engine power of its whole range of comustion cars due to new Euro 7 emission regulations, so it could be that we will have even less power than before. I don't mind the new design though, it makes it much more expensive of you hit something with these huge lights in front and on the back of the car, and except for the fake exhausts (at least here in Europe), the old design was quite nice.
