As a French, I like how our manufacturers have really improved for the past 5-10 years. Even Renault is making a great leap with their new models, especially tech wise. My only regret is that we won't see any real sport versions of these cars anymore while their designs have become more appealing than ever.

I have the same Olive Green 225 PHEV Hybrid. It drives nothing like the 208 Gt Hybrid which is lighter in feel. 308 is a heavier and in my opinion, more engaging to drive with perfect weighting. Enjoy the petrol side as the battery range is useless in real life. You will be lucky to achieve 20 miles range in electric only. Be prepared on start up to hear the petrol engine groan. It will do this every time the battery level is too low, which is pretty much all the time. This is because the petrol engine is fast charging the battery so you get Hybrid systems available each time even if you haven't plugged in for 5 days, so worth the engine noise, but not what one would expect in refinement for a 4k car. Some cockpit controls are out of sight on the central console which is distracting. You can't 'see' when on the move important things like drive modes. They should more forward or positioned on the steering column in full view. It is potentially dangerous when driving. On start up it's illogical. Car always defaults to electric and you have manually engage brake gen each time, which silly. You are not buying this car for its electric range it just doesn't have one! 😂I would say already it's a Hybrid dinosaur... it needs longer battery only range and more refinement more refined. Peugot will NOT support you under warranty if you have limited battery range. You are stuck with it!

Just for info. You can have the heated steering wheel as a programmable shortcut button. Once you are in the heated wheel screen, then hold down one of the shortcut buttons to programme it in. Have it on mine. Also a good tip is if you program one of those buttons for the start/stop but do it when you have already deactivated it, the start/stop function remains off even when you turn engine off and back on again. Not come across another car that doesn’t automatically reset it, so this is a godsend.

That's like Canadian women voting for Justin Trudeau(yes, blame them, I have it personally from one's keyboard on my Twitter feed), because it's cute...way overpriced, as above, roughly the same as a 2yr old BMW 730D M-Sport... madness, £31k for a base spec diesel!(my trusty old 308HDi cost me £140 at a DVLA auction).

Fantastic review Tish. The Peugeot styling has massively improved from their old bland pudding-ish looking cars from previous years. I had the chance to test the 3008GT and the Diesel 5008 and they were really good. I love the dash layout and interior.
The only issue I found was the climate controlling was via the infotainment screen. Not too sure if they are still like this with the newer 22 models.

Contrary to the new 208, I wasn't sure of this new 308's design when it was first unveiled a couple of months ago, nor was I necessarily bowled over by this green hue. However, I saw one just like this in Madrid a couple of weeks ago, and in the metal, I must say I thought it looked phenomenal. Peugeot design has really come on leaps and bounds as of late. It's classy and edgy, without being too brash (a critique one could level at many German premium cars). I only lament that lower-spec cars in the pug range don't have the sharp LED lighting effects, which dulls them down considerably from a visual perspective.

However, I am disappointed that they’re not gonna make a high performance version like a PSE. What do you think niece Tish about a high performance version not happening?
And one thing I wanna say: in Continental Europe, Peugeot sells the 308 MK3 with a 6MT, but only on the 1.2 3cyl and 1.5 diesel, but for some reason, we don’t get it here in the UK.

Olivine Green! Excellent color! Design = French flair.
Unfortunately not a brand that we get in the US. Peugeot withdrew decades ago. But in my years in South africa I found it popular there: comfortable cars with long travel suspensions that do well one one exits from the excellent smooth highways onto dirt roads or badly maintained roads.
Front end design reminds me a bit of the Cadillac designs. Definitely handsome. Performance? I guess there is a "GT" version?

    • @Racelinekarting
      @Racelinekarting Рік тому +1

The steering wheel/dash isn’t a major issue. For sure it blocks part of the screen but it’s only the very bottom in most cases and there is nothing down there. You can have about 5 different layouts of the digital dash with moves the dials about to help further. Every reviewer says about this wheel, but in reality it’s a non issue. They also say about taller drivers not liking it but to be honest the taller you are the less issue you have. 👍🏼

So, Zoltaire, how has the Peugeot worked out as a work car? I read an interesting opinion in comments recently from someone who sounded as though they were onto something. We have all seen plenty of complaining about the wet-belt system in the Pure-Tech engines, where degradation of the (wet) belt clogs up the oil channels and filters. This bloke was of the opinion that fuel that was making its way into the oil system and the worst examples were where engines were run for shorter trips, where the engine oil didn't necessarily heat up enough to drive out the 'dissolved fuel' from the oil in the sump, and THIS was the main reason why the belts suffered deterioration. My take away message from what he said was that short-trip commuters were more likely to experience wet-belt issues than long-trip commuters. Of course, we typically only hear more about the bad experiences than we do about the good experiences, right? Has your work stayed with Peugeot, or have they changed vehicle manufacturer?

Nice review Tish. Love the green, I have a 2022 Mustang GT on order in Eruption Green which is a very similar colour. There is some flair in the design of the 308, even if its not for everyone, Peugeot should be applauded for pushing the boundaries. The fake exhausts are dreadful. The widgets are a brilliant idea. It would have to be a plug in hybrid for me as the non hybrid engines are way too small and weedy. I haven't owned a Peugeot since I had a couple of 205 GTIs in the late 80s. Peugeot is not a big make here in Australia, its seen kind of niche with, rightly or wrongly, questionable reliability. Toyota, Hyundai and Kia rule here.

Tim - reliability is one of Peugeot's trademark strong points. We have owned 403's, 404's (my favourite) 504's (sedan & Familie), 407 and a couple of 308's (diesel & small turbo petrol). I think the 306 had reliability problems, but we have never had a major problem on any of our Peugeots.. We drive hard and fast and used to drive on very suspect roads. And you can't beat them for touring. can be driven all day, every day at 90% of maximum speed. I currently have a 2012 308 HDi (2Ldiesel) Great car and really flies along.

Great review as usual, but I might be one of a number who don't like this new Peugeot design language. It just seems too fussy and they're trying too hard to stand out - lots of slashes, gimmicks etc. I once thought the 'fang' style DRL's looked good, now I don't. I don't like the cabin, the steering wheel (despire being too small and a silly shape, it still obscures the instrument panel). Too many touch buttons (it's not just Peugeot who are guilty of that though - I'm looking at you VW), and even the physical buttons are 'piano style' keys, which i also don't like. The displays are just full of gimmicky colours, wipes and fades too - just to stand out I guess in the showroom. That gloss black diffuser will look terrible in a short space of time too - full of scratches that you can't buff out. I'm also pretty sure removing all manual gearboxes is a manufacturers first step in preparing people for EV's too.
The car market is cut throat, and cars have to make an impact on a potential buyer as quickly as possible, but this just seems one step too far. The green is nice though.

@jack weed The new Astra IS a great looking car. Nice shape, simple lines not over-fussy. VX have done a great job standing out from the crowd with the visor, but not over-doing things like Peugeot seem to be intent on. A top-spec PHEV Astra is cheaper than a (not top spec) PHEV 308 GT too. Citroen need to get their act together as they are always too 'out their' in weirdness (comfort is their strong point though).

@jack weed wait opels can't be in the upper mainstream market, their quality is worse than vw's and are way cheaper than peugeots. For example the 3008 starts from 33.300€ and a grandland from 27.000€.also the 308 starts from 25.500€ and the astra from 23.000€. Anyway, i mean that opel is clearly a mainstream brand, citroen makes more quality cars like the c5x which is better than any opel. Peugeot is a semi premium brand that makes steps to become premium. That's what a peugeot's assistant told me, i have read many articles too and that's what many people say when they review a peugeot . Also i have seen many videos that show the interior of the astra and in many places that the 308 has soft materials the astra has hard plastics.

It’s a shame that they no longer do the 2.0l diesel or the 1.6l petrol. The engines available are underpowered and make the cars a bit sluggish, they’re not capable of GT performance anymore. I’ll hang on to my 2015 version for a bit longer.

I would get this for sure over a Golf or Ford. Ford had too many deaths from the Dual clutch transmission in the US to buy Ford. And the Peugeot quality on the inside and out look better now than the Golf which looks horrible now in its redesign. So if I had a new car, this would be it for sure, in the highest horsepower version. Wish we got this in the USA. We get Fiat and Alfa Romeo which are all rubbish, either too small, too large SUVS, or poor reliability. We need more small hatchbacks and wagons in the USA, which is imbecile in its purchase of large, heavy trucks, SUVS and EVs. European roads always have more small cars and I admire that. My small Volvo V50 is so easy to drive and maneuver.

PS the small steering wheel is one of the strongest features, I love it
PPS re: the controls for Steering Wheel heating: I've had three Peugeots with heated seats and never turned on the heating except by accident. I've had one with a heated steering wheel and never turn ed it on at all. Absolutely useless features on any car, IMO.

    • @KING0SISQO

A feature is only useless if you never want to use it.
While I hear people love it and miss it on new cars that doesn’t have it. So it’s just down to what the individual wants. It’s there if you want it. Doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be added. Then all you’ll hear is “but it doesn’t have this and that” from others shopping around.
Deal breaker for some with more features for the same or less money.

There is no premium 308gt as Peugeot has decided without telling anyone that they are not making them. So instead you will get a 308gt with bits missing. Oh, mon Dieu!

I don't think the new logo is very good, its too fussy
I like the style of it overall, like you Tish, false tailpipes are wrong.
The dashboard and Fisher Price/Play station steering wheel are a deal breaker for me.
I've driven 5008 and 3008 hire cars for long journeys and the wheel is awful when manoeuvring, I found it not nice in the hand.
The other thing the 308 probably shares with its siblings is the position of the cruise control, controls. Totally hidden behind the wheel and really awkward to use, to the point I gave up using cruise which on a 300 mile trip was annoying.
I do like it, but as I say above I won't be buying one. If Stellantis do a good job with the other brands then I'll probably go for one of them in a few years
    Nice review Tish😃
