Liam - You rock! Thank you for the great video and perspective. Next, shame on me. I've become complacent and just expected new releases from Open AI to be 'spoon fed' my direction every six months. I foolishly assumed that my ability to create a custom GPT with Chat GPT Plus, along with the Assistants API would simplify my ability to generate solutions for clients....With 80% reliance on Open AI. What was I thinking? Open AI (obviously) can change direction over the weekend....they can create or withdraw new tools overnight and relying on them (or anybody) for a toolbox of exclusive tools that I intend to market to clients this early in the AI game is just laziness on my part. Thank you for the video. Thank you for the perspective. Thank you for the paradigm shift towards an agnostic toolset within a varied landscape. This is SUCH a great lesson for me to remember. Also thanks for the reference to the Latent Space newsletter. Yet another reason I trust you, and rely so heavily on your opinion.
Hey Liam, great content as always! One question, have you been able to use more than one file for the OpenAI Assistant? I get always an error that the files are uploaded but cannot be read by files-reader or something like this.
Check the 'file formats' of the files you are uploading. Assistant(s) cant read ALL file types, just some. Google it ;-)
I joined the Waitlist but never got the email confirmation. It always says wait for 2-5 minutes but I didn't get anything.

Previous MSFT here, I honestly see this playing out a bit different. I think because OpenAI relies so much on the funding of MSFT and their cloud platform, either Google or AWS buys out MSFT's share in OpenAI and their platform migrates or Microsoft will reduce funding and absorb the research capabilities that OpenAI is doing. Being that Sataya was caught off-guard as well with the news, it wasn't a good look and trust might be lost there which are the grounds of any business partnership

When a team player deters away from Core Values & Principles refusing to get back on board it a responsible decision to "cut them off" to prevent them becoming a loose canyon and a liability. No matter how great a 'player' or 'superstar' their value offers.
Everything happens at the correct time
OpenAI did a terrible mistake and this shook the entire ecosystem. Microsoft did the best thing they could do in the situation and bet this is great for both Azure based GPT and CPU , TPU engineering at MS.

I made my own GPT. It's basically just the same ChatGPT but with some built in prompts. Very useful but no big deal. The whole AI doomer hysteria is just a religious mythology for nerds.

So my 1st meeting went well. But the chatbot now need to become an all round assistant that can integrate into various systems send out queries and quotes etc. NOW I really need Agentive 😊

I think this is a huge W for Microsoft and they will take the knowledge of Sam and Greg and build their own GPT for a fraction of the cost having learnt from their mistakes at OpenAi.
It’s not so much the cost, but no cap on profit. This was the absolute best case scenario for Microsoft.
This is a huge move for Microsoft . Microsoft is already leading in the cloud business and OpenAI is already in Azure. For sure there is going to be a struggle on the side of OpenAI as Microsoft might be a competitor. Microsoft has a lot more computing power and resources to get where they need to be. I see Microsoft also getting into the GPTs business. Let’s wait and see.
Elon explained years ago in a 60mins interview why his relationship with Altman stopped in their early AI journey. Safety & Responsibility was a huge clash of their moral principles. It's no surprise to see the same issues rise again with OpenAI if you know the backstory. Altman is not the poor genius ousted out unfairly. He is all about the Money not the Academia. Unfortunately its that black area Inventors have to trade off to get investors onboard.

Sutskever may as well insist on testing the area in front of a Glacier to see if it's safe for the glacier to slide across. Moral of the story: he can't stop the inevitable no matter how much he insists on testing the inevitable. To a degree, maybe he's just trying to make his own job appear to look more important.
I think all this hype about how dangerous it isis next step fear mongering, the AI per se is like a different type of software, it can be used for the best or for the worst, but the responsibility will always be human.
The AI has no drive, no ego no ambition, time doesn't count, life and earth doesn't count, it will only do what humans order it to do.
Pay attention it's going to be easy from now on to blame the AI, while it will certainly be piloted or at least instructed as to its goals form a "wizard" behind a curtain.

This is outdated. The Verge released an article that Sam is Still in talks to return to Open AI. The saga continues.

Microsoft appears to be big the winner in this drama. Therefore, I speculate that the end result of the potential demise of OpenAI, and the MS acquisition of their talent, has been Satya's plan all along. Machiavellian machinations...

The way I see it, this will only be of benefit for the AI landscape, both for consumers and for us, service providers/product builders. OpenAI will defo lose some steam after this, which will allow (and motivate) competition to play some catch up. The more competition and big players out there, the better for the customers. This equals better prices, companies trying to ship new features better and faster in order to keep in the race, etc.
And this new scenario definitely plays out in the benefit of AAAs, AI SaaS, etc. All of this equals to more complexity, greater knowledge gaps, and a bigger need to outsource the navigation within this complexity to people and businesses with the skills to untangle it and create solutions. We are shifting away from the "one GPT builder fits all" type of solution that we were headed to with OpenAI as a distant leader and main AI provider.
Microsoft will preserve the business side of AI while open AI tries to harness the achievement and roll out of AGI. Quite possible that allis well.
I think board is right about it, when all you want is to work for Microsoft it makes sense to go and join Microsoft instead.
At this point, the only hope for OpenAI is that it becomes real opensource and community driven, (as it was the project in the beginning), so we will have a real 'Open' AI (leaded by OpenAI) and a 'closed' AI (leaded by MS). Imho.

If Sam was lying he deserved to be fired from OpenAI. I'm sure he'll fit in nicely with Microsoft. If we are going to align an AI, it should not one helmed by someone who is dishonest. It is a credit to OpenAI that they moved against him swiftly. I have more faith now in OpenAI's direction than ever before. Kudos!

Doesn't Microsoft have stakes in OpenAI? This is my fear! Microsoft destroys everything that's good for end users! They're all about control, power, and money! I am no longer putting any faith into OpenAI, because I'll be damned if I spend thousands of hours setting AI up on websites, etc., only to wake up one day and nothing is functioning properly anymore, because "Microsoft"!!

If not, God will let us face AI on our own and it will cast the truth down to the ground, it will be the cause of so much destruction like never seen before, it will deceive many and take many captive in order to enslave them into worshipping it and abiding in lawlessness. We can only destroy ourselves but with God all things are possible. God knows us better because He is our Creater and He knows our beginning and our end.
