The time you are bussy with the run up and check list I have reached 500m AGL with my Ventus 3M and a SOLO Engine.
And while working with a check list is good, I would never close the canopy without locking the handles for them.

Me 2. Because I do the warmup and mag checks of my ASH-26E during taxi. Steerable tailwheel is a must have. As soon as I reach the runway I take off immediately (when clear). And I too would lock the canopy immediately once closed. In a double seater I would also give extra attention to the rear canopy to make sure that is closed too. This should be on the checklist.

I suspect the reason he didn't lock the canopy when closing the canopy was because the rear canopy was still open--in some two seat Schleicher gliders, you can't lock the front canopy until the rear canopy is closed and locked. I know the ASK-21 is like that, so I suspect that could be the case.

@@trainman4472 you are correct regarding the canopies. If you try to close the front with the rear unlatched, the front canopy will not come down all the way and it will be obvious.

Reminds me of the time I first spoke to my mom about her needing to hand over her car keys. Watch it again. Might be time sir.

I fly an ERJ175 and our checklists and flows aren’t half as complicated as this. Simplify

Checklists are straight from the AFM. Much effort was expended on improving the flow. Three experienced pilots including Jim Payne of Perlan reviewed our work. With the engine stowed, the checklists are much simpler!

That’s the same observation I was going to make. I got my ME rating in a Cessna 310 and it didn’t have half as complicated check list as that thing. Geez Louise… 🙄

    How much this glider costs?

In 2016, this glider with many options and trailer was about 300,000 USD.

You ran the fuel pump for almost 30 seconds before starting the engine. Is that normal for this glider? It didn’t flood...

It did not flood. I believe injection starts when the starter is engaged, like a car engine. The Austro wankel rotary engine is quite different from the typical aircraft piston engine, where fuel is injected with WOT for a few seconds, then start is with throttle closed. I have not heard of any problem on the Austro engine regarding flooding or hot starts. Having said that, a better cockpit flow would reduce the time and drain on the battery.

My Solo is the same way. No issue running the pump. Once the carb float lifts from the bowl being full, it shuts off flow to the bowl.

    Where are you launching from?

SCSA is north of Los Angeles, at crystalaire airport.

..... This is the first time you have been in this aircraft, .... Right?
Do you also use a check list to change heading in flight?

    • @aerodyneservices
      @aerodyneservices  4 роки тому +3

No, fully checked out well beforehand. These checklists are derived from what is in the AFM. What was in the AFM was found lacking and contradictory. This flight was part of several to test the checklists and flow.

The check list is worthy of a 747 but not sure its worthy of a glider even one with a self launcher.

747 engines have FADEC and don't retract. Most items came from the AFM. The flow can be improved, this was like second cut.

I like the single seat cushion you wear with the big sheet stuffed inside.
