In the beginning you’re saying we don’t need more than one keyboard and in the background on your shelf you have a second keyboard 😐

YESSS. It's exactly what we're going for
Totally agree. Super funny. Subtle and not so subtle. With a dash of sarcasm here and there. At the same time as presenting informative discussion on keebs and reviews. Learned a lot. Not just about the keyboards themselves but the hobby, industry and craftsman/womanship of customizing/modding them.

To Betty and Jake,
Thank you so much for every video you two put out! This video was my favorite by far because EVERYTHING is on point. The comedic timing, editing, sound effects. In what seems like such a short amount of time... Betty has found her voice!
This really made my day =]
really happy to see that you are more comfortable in your videos and a hell of a lot more confident! keep making awesome videos :D
Absolutely loved the comedic touch 😂 thank you!
The way you present and come across is totally awesome, good little bits of humor and there confidence and just all round efficient facts and stats as well. Brilliant work
Yep. I’m at that middle stage of keyboards. Just bought my first Keychron. I’m already looking forward to putting together a custom board.
it's certainly an addicting hobby to get into... a lot of it comes to switches and wanting to try everything. just today while I do have a ducky one2 mini I got a anne pro 2 finally. now I have had a bit of everything from the razer boards, corsair and even 2 different topre realforce boards. hopefully now since I have this anne pro 2 I can stop for a moment! Oh wait... There's still the 65% to get but I still haven't seen one that I think is worth picking up for now.

Same. I used to have a varied UA-cam feed, now it's just keyboards, switches, mods .....
My wallet is afraid, v v afraid
I'm definitely out there with my switch preferences. I prefer heavy actuation force (like 70g+) and extra clicky switches. Box Jades or maybe some old school Cherry Greens (or buckling spring if I really want a nostalgia blast lol).
For reference, I write copy for a living (as well as organize and plan content schedules for websites) and type around 80k words a week. You'd think I'd like lighter switches with that workload, but here we are lol.
Love this video. Informative n funny.
You look in every new shot awesome! :)
I actually really like my Cherry silent red. It's good for a budget board that won't sound good using the regular enthusiast grade switches, as the case will really hurt the sound profile. Having that silencing property and some additional lube make them feel and sound alright. Definitely going to step up to a full custom board later though, but that cost money that I can't really just throw around. The thock will have to wait, though it will be worth it.
Your content quality, both in delivery and style, gets better literally every video.
Also, in the past year, I learned that I love keyboards but hate the keyboard community.
i like these types of videos just less crazy and more chill
but as long as you are having fun its perfect
I'd indeed love an updated version of this!
I got a DasKeyboard that I've been using for about 4 years. I recently decided that I wanted a wireless one with clicky switches and a numpad, so I ordered a Keychron K4 that comes Thursday. I know they aren't supposed to be *as* good as they were, but of all the options I could find it seemed like the best bet. I'm a little concerned about the fact that it's for my work laptop, which goes through a grub screen because when I installed ubuntu I left Windows as a boot option (and have never used it) and I might not be able to navigate the grub screen with a bluetooth keyboard - but I'll see if I can configure it to automatically go into ubuntu unless I override.
Basically I wanted to be able to kick back, put the keyboard on my lap, move it around, etc, without worrying about the cord knocking stuff around on my desk.
This was really fun to watch, great stuff 🤘
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your videos are so dang awesome.

I bought a pre-made keyboard and chose brown for fun. That was my first time trying out stock gateron browns and it was terrible. My main driver uses Durock T1s so the gateron browns were a shock, almost linear with like a bump the size of a grain of sand.
Ha would have been funny if the bump is like a grain of salt :)

thank you so much for this video! as a newbie who's about to start their first build (nibble 65!) i was hitting a bit of analysis paralysis when it comes to switches - so that pie chart has already been super helpful with scaling my potential search from tens of tactiles to, like, 8. happy typing!

i like these humoristic videos a ton, it seems like you're more relaxed.

Love the channel! Actually just bought a Keycron C1 because of you. As a 20+ year programmer I'm just now getting into the custom keyboard market. The real issue for me is "where can I find switched to touch and test?" That's the main issue for those getting into the "hobby" and kept me from starting for so long. I finally decided to just buy one and start figuring it out for myself. Your reviews and information are outstanding but a sound test through crappy internet audio doesn't really help me get a feel for those keycaps and switches. So until these components become more common and I can go to Best Buy and try everything out I think the market is going to as scattered as you mentioned. Give it about 5 years and the big companies will take notice and start having those kiosks at Best Buy and it will really explode.
In the same boat of been programming for about forever and just recently getting into more custom of a keyboard besides a Rosewill cherry mx blue special that I had for 8+ years.
I recently got a ducky x varmilo with cherry mx clears for work after trying a keytester for the switch type, trying someone else's ducky for build quality, and suggestions given by Betty and others. My next jump will definitely be down the rabbit hole as I'm looking into hotswap to try different switch types.
@@chriswheatley3146 Yeah I chose the hot swapable keyboard so i could play around with different switches. I didn't want to get "locked down" with one kind and then find out I didn't like them. Too expensive to buy a whole new board for new switches IMHO.
This is now my favorite UA-cam channel
Very interesting and well done
Good lord I love this level of chaotic wholesomeness
I almost wonder if there's a way to make a silent switch by dampening the upstroke and using like an optical layout, but using something along the lines of like... imagine a strong magnet in each and every switch that rather than you bottoming out, it forces the key back up at a certain point to prevent a bottom out? No idea if that would ever work but that's the only way(and probably an expensive way) that I can see avoiding the mushiness and "scratchy" sound of a silent switch. I like silent switches for how they feel. A really tactile silent switch is -awesome, it's the bottom out sound the silent switch makes that I can do without.
And that is what too much mechanical keyboard does to your brain. Just say no, kids.
There are old switches from the 70s that use opposed magnets to add clicks!
I'm a clicky guy, and i was one for almost a decade.
Until i started working at home and started typing a lot, blues gave me an headache, browns allows the typing experience to be at least not painful.
Im using heavily lubed old mx browns before the retooling (the extremely scratchy ones), so im looking for something more smooth and im looking at hyperglide browns to build a board with them.
Awesome video... Really funny.
"you guys spend too much on keyboards"
me: buys a bundle with mouse, keyboard, headphones for 10$ (if you divide it the keyboard costs below 5$)
Nooo
keyboards are literally a rabbit hole whenever you start to go in you want more and more and more
Not really. Only if you like all stuff that you bought on 100+% and don't wanna sell it after receiving.
I just got my first mechanical keyboard this week (iKBC CD108 V2, nothing too glamorous but from what I've heard and experienced so far a perfectly decent keyboard) after wanting one for over a decade, but I still have like 5 old crappy keyboards lying around because sometimes you just need one. Maybe once every couple years I have a need to dig through my bin of old computer junk and pull out a keyboard that remembers where it was on 9/11 and I'm always glad I keep them around when those times come.
As for switches I'm also team Brown because I'm married and want to stay that way.
This was a pretty fun video and the first I've seen of yours. Maybe I'll get into keyboards lol
„Do you have a problem with mechanical keyboards?“ - „No, but without them!“

I'm not specifically a computer keyboard enthusiast, but UA-cam recommended me your video after I watched some of your reviews. I just need a keyboard that feels oddly satisfying for when I go to write stuff like video scripts and fiction books, but this video allows me to peek into the computer keyboard enthusiast community.
(0:43) I won't be surprised if someone tried to buy a keyboard at Bunnings.
(1:00) That's just how I feel about book Kickstarter/Indiegogo/Ulule campaigns! I back so many book campaigns, and then book packages start showing up my doorstep, and then I check the sender address and remember where they came from.
(1:15) I never use lubed and filmed switches.
(1:45) $20k feels like the amount I spend on children's books, but it's really more like $2k on tech and $1k on children's books because I try to limit myself, oh, and that includes subscription fees for various services I use.
(2:24) As someone who tends to gravitate towards stuff that aren't popular, such as book series that aren't popular enough for bookshop chains outside of the author's home country don't sell them, I feel weird for having full-sized keyboards, but then again, I do actually use most of the keys! I need a full-sized keyboard for my workstation with the software I run on it, but I can use smaller keyboard layouts on auxiliary systems, laptops, and tablets.
(4:54) For the same reasons, I'm happy to use clicky switches that have high activation forces! I'm a heavy typed and tend to hammer away when typing, so much so that the keyboard on my laptop has recently began failing intermittently.
(5:48) No custom full-sized mechanical keyboard exists, so I instead have to take an off-the-shelf keyboard, usually one designed for gaming, then modify it, changing the switches out for Kailh BOX Navy, and changing the keycaps to something that looks vintage, like the Drop MT3 3277 keycap set I currently have on order as of posting this comment. I currently use a modified CM Storm QuickFire XT with those switches, and eventually those custom keycaps and a 'Ghost Squid' board if I can find one. If anyone knows of a custom full-size kit that I had never heard of, let me know.
I love how when a new fact comes up she's wearing different headgear.
I feel like the split between linear and tactile lovers gets a little weird when "Cherry MX Brown" is the most popular tactile...like that could almost just be a an extra scratchy linear with its tactility. Feel like some of the tactile love might actually be "dry linear" love lol
I found this very informative
Glad it was helpful!
5 plus keyboards??!! Now that's either a love for mechanical keyboards or an obsession 🤔. I don't even have one as yet, still deciding cuz I'm fussy, but I will say the one you have on the desk now is my fav. Something about those blue keycaps have me in awe. Love this vlog.
Brown swithes are too powerful, I'm surprised they haven't been banned yet.
