Hey, please tell me if you cant find some similar things in this short i made 2 years ago. I think its awesome. ua-cam.com/video/5y9cb2MMrUo/v-deo.html
Hope if happens... currently now making his horror comeback with “The Culling” (LionsGate) in 2022 and “The Unsound” (Netflix), and “SHAZAM 2: Fury of the Gods” in 2023... or maybe the “Lights Out” sequel titled “Shadowed” could be a good one.
Me too. David seams like a real gem. I think I was on the same bus to novemberfilmsfestivalen in Trollhättan in what seams not to many years ago. Amazing and weired how David and his wife ended up in Hollywood! and that he seams to stay true to him self!
@callmecatalyst i whole heartedly agree with what you are saying but I don't think anyone's acting like the film is a masterpiece. Obviously it is a re tread of lights out but that wasn't what I was celebrating. I was celebrating that despite having the possibility to be someone who forgot what got them their success, he isn't and he didn't forget. I'm commending that despite his fame, hes still sticking true to what he loves and even if it isn't the next Hereditary I'm completely fine with it! Also its not fair to use a short 5 minute film like this as an example of the dying horror genre, especially during horror's recent resurgance with films like Hereditary, blackcoats daughter, the lighthouse, babadook (and so on, you get the point). Overall, a guy making a short horror with his wife isn't exactly comparable to the horrors of Jason Blum himself.
@@marcotontodonati347 Exactly. It's not like he's remaking the same feature film repeatedly. He made what he could given circumstances - covid lockdown, no money, limited filming opportunities, limited cast. In theatre a playwrite exploring the same ideas and themes in a variety of ways is lauded. This is a chance for him to play with those ideas again and see what new things he can do with them, like the vase trick, or the growing hallway shadow. It's not a masterpiece - though I genuinely like it - but it is a great way for him to stretch his mind and explore those concepts in slightly different ways. And what he learns from that will go into his box of tricks for other films.
So basically the way David comes up with his short film ideas is just "So how do I kill Lotta this time?". EDIT: Btw I do see this as a spiritual sequel to Lights Out. I feel like this is another short that can be expanded into a feature.
I want to see how he composed the shadows shot with that pot. I guess he filmed the pot on a green screen, then keyed it and made it only black, then changed it opacity but gradually, mostly lower parts, and then he filmed the shot with only Lotta, and then composited both. I guess
I absolutely LOVE aLotta this actress!! She is brilliantly talented and has a very unique style of acting. She really understands the assignment! Brilliantly written and executed. Bravo! Mr. Sandberg you are one of my most favourite film directors
This man is a big budget director. Let that sink in. Follow your dreams film makers. Also I’d like to say that I’m creating (writing, directing) a horror comedy short film and this channel, this director, is one of my biggest inspirations. Thanks for making content!
I love that you still make low/no budget films. Thank you! Some of my other favourite directors no longer do this, and I honestly think their feature films suffer as a result of the lessons they've forgotten because now they can just throw money at it to paper over things. So great to see a filmmaker who just wants to make films, and not just blockbusters.
I was hoping that during the ending the woman would look back on the chair with the blanket on, and see that the blanket is now covering the woman who was a shadow. But another amazing video. Great work!
This was a really clever concept, love it! Also the fact that despite being a Hollywood director you still make your own shorts shows real love about what you do. Plus you inspired me to make my own first horror short 😉
David and Lotta - you have outdone yourself!! This is a classic Ponysmasher film to the max!! I love it! Can't wait to watch it a 2nd time to notice all the things I've missed the first time!!
I have watched many of these short films with Lotta staring in them and have now decided to never go stay with Lotta seeing as Lotta has really bad luck. Another fantastic short.

I absolutely LOVE the fact that you're still making short films like this and uploading them to UA-cam. I mean, you've made it - and you're still making home movies like all of us 🤘 LEGEND!
Well this was just an unexpected little treat. Like a favourite dessert you haven't tasted in a while. Thanks for returning to your roots during quarantine. Much appreciated.
You guys have no idea how much I missed your horror shorts, I was trying my best not to cover my eyes to see what was going on, excellent job as always David and Lotta 🙌🏻💯
The shadow of that thing on the table would have freaked me out but the shadow of the woman sitting in the chair would have sent me running for my life.
Great short Horror!!!!! I have to say David, you have inspired me when I first saw your short videos a year ago to pursue my dream. I have been a dentist for over 20 year, but my true passion, since I saw the original Star Wars for the first time was to make movies. With technologies these days, and especially you and your wife sharing to the world your craft and your journey, nothing is impossible. So thank you very much for still making short horror movies, even though you already made millions on the big screen.
This is how you build suspense. I watch a lot of horror movies and don't get frightened too often but this made me come to the comments for refuge. Have always appreciated ya'lls work
The lady with the WORSE LUCK IN THE PLANET of horror! LOL... love that you've returned to your horror roots besides doing million dollar budget films ("Shazam!", "Annabelle: Creation")! That's a huge love for DIY filmmaking. My total respect, admiration and inspired by your work, David Sandberg @ponysmasher! all the way from Mexico, stay safe!!
First in Lights Out and now this, poor Lotta, these shadow monsters keep coming at her! She must've hurt the wrong people in the past! Great short! Loved it!
This reminds me of a horror short I read as a kid and never forgot called "Shadow Play" (www.scaryforkids.com/shadow-play/). It was a cool idea about a kid seeing shadows move across his room at night, kept at bay only by his bedside lamp, until the night of a storm when the power goes out and has kind of a grizzly end. I thought about turning the concept into a short myself at some point so it was cool to see what something like that might look like. I especially liked the hallway scene in which the shadow grows as the invisible thing approaches the light. That was a nice touch.
I read that story as a kid and it deeply marked me too. I was afraid of the dark and I remember the dread I felt when the shadows killed his parents. As a child you feel like your parents can protect you from the monsters and that short story took that away.
