The fact that we're also getting a Tidal Wave and Overload to combine with Megatron and Prime respectively is so awesome. Armada is one of those underrated toy lines and shows in my eyes.
Astonishingly, this guy has yet another feature you missed! You can open up the back of his tank mode, and it folds out into a ramp that leaves a good-sized cavity. It's meant to be basically a small room for Minicons, hence why there's paint in there.
I always find it amusing how the esteemed Mr. Skullface will say "so to speak" after the most innocuous double entendre, but he will let several very clear euphemisms go by without any comment, like "sidepiece", "get it up" etc. :D So innocent! ;)
I think this fella looks pretty good in both modes. I could easily see myself grabbing him off the shelf often to flip and flap away. As a young lad, this would probably be my favorite toy. The sounds of battle and mechanized terror sounding from the dirt pile in the back yard! :^) Great review as expected!
One of the things I love the most about this guy is the "flap flippin' fun". I love the one (for now) Fans Toys figure I have in my collection. But it's Quietus. And we all know what an absolute delight he is to transform. Meg-Tyranno (like a Tyrannosaurus Rex I guess?) here is solidly built to utilize all his gimmicks, including the transformation. They're for two different niches IMO, sure, but I don't love either of them less.
I would like to say only a true Transformer lover must have this but that's not fair. If you're a fan of this line this is it for you. And you know it.
Armada and 2001 RID are by far the reason I became a fan of the franchise and went deeper into G1 and everything aince then. They started it for me. Armada is still ok with it being the best 2d animated transformers series. But these figures dont loom enough like they should . Megatron is ok. But Prime is so far removed that it doesnt look like him anymore. Especially the smaller optimus. Its a shame. I would pay alot for well done masterpiece figures of this series
I agree with you. I want to get this figure, as Armada Megatron was the one I grew up with, but this doesn't quite match that feeling for him. I'd expect this Megatron to be a bit beefier, bulkier. Maybe I'll see if I see him in hand at the next TFCon I go to. Thanks for the video!
I had the OG toy as a kid and have a lot of nostalgia for this particular Megatron, this figure looks cool but the proportions aren't quite right somehow. Also I feel they redesigned him a bit too much- I like stylized figures and all, but when it's a character with basically no representation it would have been better to get a more faithful one first. Like there's a billion G1 Primes out there, it doesn't harm to have a non-accurate version, but Armada gets so little love that any figures from the line should be more accurate, at least IMO.
I do not own the figure, but I've seen the light up feature of that gun barrel accessory and it looks really nice when it is lit. His eyes light up as well.
This figure is a handsome devil but it misses the biggest, most crustal part of Armada Meg's character, which is his absurd level of lust for power. This mech was willing to use what is essentially child laborers as glorified power boosting packs to make himself stronger and the OG toy had up to 14 minicon pegs, which was the second highest of any of the toys from Armada toy line, Unicron having the most pegs. Despite the multiple different play features this figure has in total and in vehicle battle station mode, it sucks that it came at a loss for the minicon pegs. The face sculpt is the biggest let down of this figure.
Needed an angry head sculpt, but I like it. I never watched the originals, but started watching the Japanese versions late last year and they are quite delightful. Definitely need to get some into the collection, though not sure this is it.
Poor Bobby is suffering from PTSD. I don't blame you. I heard there are QC issues with the first batch of Naval Commander. Not knowing which version he gave you, it was wise not to fiddle with it.
I am an Armada fan, and I would bite if there was a cackling face option, and generally I prefer my Megatrons to be smiling than stern faced. Still, hopeful that their Jetfire is good, and, most of all, that FansHobby make a Star Saber and a Dark Star Saber.
I like the Fans Hobby Armada Megatron but I don't like the Fans Hobby Armada Optimus Prime and since the only reason I would buy this Megatron was to display together with Prime in my Prime/Megatron display I'm skipping it. Other then that I agree with your critics, thanks for the review Mr. Skullface.
Probably good to not take risks I got the prime and it broke in several places the plastic was very brittle I wanted the Megatron to but I'm cautious on spending the money after dealing with the prime
The plastic for Prime was only for the first batch, and FH is giving out replacement parts for free. I have the Megatron and he's extremely well built.

The head and helmet sculpt is completely wrong for Armada Megatron. Its amazing how they got that wrong when it is the focal point of a figure. There are some other things off with the design but the head is the one bit you need to do right.
This thing sounds “cheap” while being handled. Not sure why that is. Seems a little on the immature side, and less refined. I certainly wouldn’t regard this as a “Masterpiece” representation of Armada Megatron.
I'll tell you what I want as an Armada fan: screen-accurate 'bot design and port systems (maybe a few and not forty) and a fully functional, posable, non-gimmick-ridden toy that looks the part. So far they've gone a good job of making these fun, re-imagined toys but they feel off-brand. Just wasted potential to really re-create the on-screen characters instead of this stylized crap. Whatever. It's a pass for me. Hasbro's will likely be flimsy for quality but they'll at least have the Armada feel down. That much I can count on them for, unless they do that same bullshit that they did with Galaxy Force Prime. Sigh. Just do the UT justice, HasTak.
Sorry, when I look at that head sculpt, I DO NOT see anything remotely close to a Megatron!! That face is weak, and Megatron is not weak. I know this is a version of “Megatron”, but the sculpt does not do it justice.

All of the gimmicks are a callback to the original toy if I remember correctly.

Man if we get this in his galvatron colours I’ll buy that in a heartbeat
also, what if they did him in his g1 colors for literally no reason? I actually made a digibash of what that would probably look like.
