That one fly was as large as the leaf that trapped him. It almost looked like he intentionally jumped into just the right position to get caught.

12:06 This fly is a called a Flesh Fly. They can get larger than the biggest female Blue Bottle Flies (the smaller ones are the males). I’m quite familiar with these guys, they started showing up at my house around the time I got chickens. Still trying to convince my mother to let me get carnivorous plants, but she’s convinced they’ll attract gnats and flies which is ridiculous because we already have a ton of flies and gnats outside and they make they’re way in the house regardless. 😅
Yea lol if you have a ton of flies you might as well get them. Sarracenia would work well outside as they eat hundreds of bugs and sundews for the gnats
@@theflytrapgardenfilms xD yea that’s what I keep telling her. Ive always liked the pinguicula and the sundews, but a pitcherplant probably would be better for the sheer amount of flies here. Besides the flys outside, I breed our native praying mantis on a small scale so I have fruit fly cultures on hand during the spring and early summer anyways. There’s enough flies outside that I started catching all the larger food items for the mantises myself insted of buying it and I’ve gotten as good at catching the flies as my mantises are lol. It’s not like I’d be doing anything I’m not already aside from buying carnivorous plant soil and distilled water. She’d still rather buy fly strips though 🤷♀️

I have some typicals that I bought from Home Depot and the newest traps that started growing after a repot are wayyy bigger than my B52 traps! It’s crazy!

@@theflytrapgardenfilms your channel got me interested in trying them again after several years because last time I bought some I had no clue how to care for them and they died. My son and I found your videos and I did a ton of research and bought several from Home Depot and online nurseries and they are all doing great! Thank you for sharing all the cool videos here and getting me interested in them again. It’s my favorite hobby ever now!
