These are definitely works of art. I'm a big fan of B&W. They were by far the best speakers I auditioned. I really had to stretch my finances to obtain them. 18 years, and thousands of dollars of depreciation later, I still get a smile when I listen to them. Never had a chance to hear the Nautilus, but they're so far out of my league that it's probably a good thing that I never heard them. It's amazing that B&W still builds and supports these after so long. I wish I could say the same for Anthem. Their remote is a joke, and no longer available. If you have one for an AVM50, and don't need it let me know.
The only speakers in the world that are famous outside of the Audiophile world... The only speakers that are featured in films and has a BBC documentary about them...
Yes! The other big thing that’s unique about them is that all drivers are made from the same material - which is very hard to do. Surprised that wasn’t mentioned, unless I missed it.
Thank you for this video Gene never heard in person but from the sampled audio I’ve heard from video they sound great lovely 805 D4 it’s awesome they still make these
Love B&W, I remember first time I heard a pair of them at a San Francisco boutique store back in the 90’s and talking to the sales man, I mentioned I had some Definitive Technology and KEF Coda speakers, the sales man and the manager asked to bring my speakers and compare some budget B&W speakers (602 s2 or S3 big book shelf speakers) and so I did we connected all the speakers using same gear and oh my goodness, it was an eyes and ears opener, the clarity and balance of sound those speakers had it was amazing to me. To this day 30 years later and I still have them and love them, they still sound awesome. My gear now is from the 700 series, hoping one day I can move up to the 800.
@@giovanni1269 trust me, you will definitely be blown away by the 800 series. Just be wary of the earlier generations, if you're not buying new, because some of them are quite hard to drive successfully (good quality amplifier with plenty of headroom 🙏) One of the few English Hi-Fi products, still made, 30 miles from my house👍😁 (come to think of it, the 600 and 700 series were also made there, for your generation)😎
Thx a lot for doing this guys, these are simply landmark designs ...... unfortunately I never seen or heard them, my choice is of corse the color "Corso Rossa" (ferrari red) 😍🤩
I remember when my dealer had a pair of these about 10 yrs ago for $70k Canadian. I recall telling myself that if I waited another 10 or so yrs that they’d become more affordable. HA! Btw, what was the launch price in 1993?
I don't get it, First he says these are "active" speakers which I take to mean powered. Then he goes on to say "ever though they're active they require a significant amount of power ie the Class'e. Why should that be, why would they require more than say 4 volts in from an preamp front end. Are they active or passive? The one spec I could find say they come with 500 watts of power ???
Yes , i like it ! The best speakers with ( not ) reflexions from outside of cabinet . Was my goal , but i remain with 800 Diamond for life , much better and have Nautilus technology to mids and highs . BR
Every audiophiles/audiojunkies dream is to own these. One thing I've always questioned is there amp recommendations...100 watts x 4??? Tweeter and upper midrange will never even come close to using that. I get headroom....but c'mmon? They are already expensive....but now you have to add a huge chunk to spend on amps and other gear....definately not for us mortals
Nothing exceeds like excess. I cant imagine spending that much on a speaker with 4 drivers... 4 EXPOSED drivers. Do people not have children, friends, animals? These wouldnt last a minute in a normal environment without someone carelessly pushing a driver. Then you have to pay to fly this guy over? Not on my dime.
I have a 5 channel setup with 803 D1's. Not cheap. My twins were about five years old, and they understood that they were not to be touched. They never did, at least as far as I know. Many people who are shopping for audio at this price point ( probably most) have a dedicated listening room. Lock that thing up if your kids and pets can't be trusted.

I’m getting five for my complete base level looking at a way to mount them for Atmos.
😂🤣
If the home theatre room is top floor maybe instal some steeples on your roof where the spiky bits poke through the roof?
They have been my dream speakers since they were introduced... if i ever....😅

Awesome 👏
Beautiful eye candy that sounds amazing too. Dream speakers that need a dream system to power them. Very cool.
They're perfect for your yacht!

These represent the Pinnacle of Audio Achievement, one of a handful of Audio Wonders.
I would love a chance to hear these. I haven't had a chance to hear any esoteric super high end speakers unfortunately.
Any idea where we can hear these in action in Toronto?
McBride, you Da Man!

I have torn thoughts on this when he says x has not been changed. It seems there has been some improvements in tech that must be swapped out
Legendary speakers

Are you feeding this with music by spotify's compression, a macbook preamp and a 2$ Jack-RCA adapter?
really good speakers when you are on a budget.
Gene, did you ask how many they have sold over the years?
I want 6 of those in a circle around my chair!!!

They sound great on my Android speaker.

is this better than perlisten S7T??
Lol, no. Completely different animal
Nautilus is better looking!
Glad that these exist
That is cool
Have zero interest in them on any level
❤❤❤💯❤❤❤🥰
$100k ??? LOL
Wish I had $1000 Klipsh RP-8000 v2
Demo dice
The Corvette analogy was ridiculous and made no sense.
All good speakers should dissapear
Speakers arent worth the price. To me
