The car business is one of those opportunities where people with little to no formal education can make truly incredible amounts of money. Because of this, it is very hard to leave. I know Ed understands this. Took me 20 years to get out and stay out, but the lessons I learned have been all I needed for the rest of my life.
Care to share some life tips? (non car)
@@bosshoss69lee What would you like to know?
@@GTSCarLife gimme that dad advice
I did the same thing back in 2006. Car lot desk job, calling ups and filling out 4 squares. I bought my own computer (the sales department didn’t have any) and started posting every single car on the lot onto CL. For 6 months straight, I sold 90% of the cars on the lot. Ahhh what a fun time being 21. Easy money.
Ps. Now I hate selling cars lol. I only love owning them.
"The typical, sleezy car salesman." Shows a picture of Rabbit. You ain't slick lol.
The number of successful businesses launched because of dreadful bosses (or their offspring) is enormous. 22 years ago I had the worst service manager ever...
Rabbit and Tabbutt should do a collaboration car sales service.
I used to work at Serpentini Chevy years ago and I hated it 😂😂
Car sales seems to be where all the guys who absolutely love themselves go..
We just got rid of my gfs 13 sport. Biggest pile of crap weve ever dealt with. Sold it for 4k, she took about a 39k hit on it.
You have "car dude" in your name and you expected some other outcome from selling an 11 year old land rover?
@@MrWhatsHisFace87 haha she bought it before I started dating her
Funny how that happens with the kids you get with the relationship. Not all have a sense of a good vehicle. Sucks that you all had to take a hit. I always wanted one to strip to nothing and put it back with good parts and drive train like Toyota engine and so on.
@@davidsmith6001 haha no doubt. Actually ended up getting her a 2018 Limited 4runner from her dad for a great price as a replacement
Doug is definitely one of my favorites
Ha, I worked at Serpentini Chevrolet as a service porter for a time, and yeah, Bob Serpentini was a character. I ended up moving back to my mom's in Cincinnati after she came down with cancer, to help her out. My manager told me that Mr. Serpentini said that if I needed help finding a new job, he could help out. I always thought that was nice of him.
Most car people have a similar story. Me included.
Being addicted to naming off cars as they passed by at the age of 5, to working at a dealer for years, now working for myself and selling buying and selling cool cars nationwide!
The vacuum sales guy was defiantly a Kirby vacuum sales distributer. Great vacuum, but its a mlm scam. People above you take a cut of your sales like a pyramid lol.
I know all about the "Land Rover Way" , the dealer politics and spoiled dealers, offspring!! This video. Brought back some memories! Lmfao!!
As a tech in jlr this resonates so much with me lmao
@DragonbornOfTamriel love the techs!! I must have birddogged a third of income....haha
What is your dream job in the car business?
I was a test car driver for Standard Oil. That was a pretty cool job.
Getting out. I know you know!
Be the stig duh
@@GTSCarLifeWhy? The people?
@@clubracer6 No, certainly getting up every day, knowing you’re going to be dealing with people who hate you before they even walk in the door does take a toll, the real problem with the automobile business is the hours. I was fortunate to have a great reputation and 85% of my clients were repeats and referrals, but it’s very difficult to maintain a family life with the demands of the car business.
Yay it’s Doug. Love a Doug story ❤️
Always enjoy a good story from Doug!
I recently bought a B9 S5 from them and his sales team was great. I couldn't afford 90% of the cars they had, but they still treated me just the same as someone who could.
I haven't talked business to a car salesperson since '99. I did not realize a friend's family owns more than two dozen dealerships, so it's been $1200 over the cost to order whatever, whenever. Still don't go crazy "Switching up" vehicles...not going to waste the money on that
The second he said rented space no signs i immediately knew it was for selling vacuums
DOug is typical, sleazy car salesman
Doug, I really enjoy your stories. I had two short unhappy stints in the car business in the early 'oughts. I could not believe the things I was hearing and seeing. Naivete on my part, I suppose. What did I learn? Avoid car dealers. And yet I got lucky and found a great car at a used car lot years later--which I am driving today. So...keep up the good work and please share more stories.
I bought my first and last BMW from BMW Cleveland. Right next to LR Cleveland. I remember a salesman whom I wasn’t dealing with saying to me, “You gonna buy anything?!” I told him I just bought the loaded M3 over there. He then said oh, nice car and held the door for me. When I referred my new car he said, “We don’t sell cars, we sell BMWs.” It was cringy. I remember thinking, does this crap work on people? Cuz it ain’t doing anything for me except making me regret I came there. Later, when some things went wrong with the car the level of service both there and at Ganley BMW (the only two BMW dealers fairly close by) was abysmal. Meanwhile my buddies are glowing over how Lexus dealers fall all over themselves and the cars never break. I still, to this day cannot understand how BMW stays in business.
What year was this

Great story Doug. Thanks for sharing. Edit: Don't listen to the a-holes that are hating on you.
Another awesome story Doug, great to hear the background here
I too once sold used cars. Competition & dirtiness are equal to any contact sport. Mr Doug is cool....
Thanks Doug for making my day 😀😀😀
This was awesome! He certainly has what would be my dream situation. Just trying to figure out how to get there and if it’s even feasible now.
Same here friend
Its a long shot but what shoes was he talking about?
having a good boss makes all the difference in the world
100% accurate on Serpentini, speaking from experience. But to be honest, he does have “serpent” in his name, so can’t fault anyone but yourself if they get ya 😂😂
I grew up in NE Ohio listening to Serpentini ads! Remember years ago when Mr. Serpentini would do his own radio voice overs? "American and PROOOUD of it!"😅
All u had to say was serpentini.
I feel cheated. I really wanted this story to be longer.
It’s great to see Doug doing another video. I feel like it’s been a long time since his last appearance.
What’s the 4 square?
I'm pretty an sure I interviewed for the exact same vacuum sales job as Doug lol
If it wasn't vacuum cleaners it was water filters. I walked out right after the VCR finished playing the teaser because I didn't want to trip over chair legs or the cables laying on the floor
Dude I remember Bob Serpentini Chevy ads. Unsure if it was Cleveland or Columbus, but 💯
Serpentini....Chaci personified.
Does anyone know the video Doug is talking about regarding his motorcycle business?
Great story. Serpentini Chevy wanted a 3K Markup on a Chevy Trax My cousin just bought.
Motel 6 'conference room' cold calls selling steak knifes and Falkner BMW in Lancaster Pa myself.
I hope there's a Corvette in this story.
The best thing about the car business is it will give anyone a chance...The worst thing about the car business is it will give anyone a chance.
Sounds like the Kirby vacuum cleaner job I had about 10 years ago
Years ago my girlfriend let a Kirby guy in the house after I while her and my brothers girlfriend just went in a back room and he hung around for over an hour. Until my roommate came home. He gave my roommate one of those you have 3 options A, B and C. My roommate said D get the fuck out before I show you my gun collection. I came home about 30 minutes later and he was sitting in our cul-de-sac. He was in our house for over 2 hours. There is no way I could be a door to door salesman. Its right up there with telemarketing.
@@cs1375 I did it for 2 weeks made a quick $2000 and got out
More Doug more Doug!
Bulgaria 🇧🇬 mentioned 👍🏻
Cornelius Would Be Proud.🙌🏻
Doug, what's that manager that taught you everything doing now?
Serpentini one of those dealerships I refuse to walk into ..
A question I never asked my self lol
What kinda pants?
Doug score
Serpantini chevrolet …….what a great name for a car dealer, second only to Devil chevrolet😙
So in essence, he siphoned leads away from a dealerships website to his email. Then proceeded to refuse to share those leads with anyone else there. To add to this he then sold those cars on ebay instead of going through the actual dealership process.
Nobody at the dealership was computer savvy.
By putting the cars on EBay, he was exposing the dealership and their vehicles to a lot more potential customers.
It was still a legit sale of the dealerships vehicles, by Doug.
The Sales Manager knew what Doug was doing.
If someone is selling plenty of vehicles, in a legit way, no problem with that…
The Company running the dealership was very slack etc, because when Doug left, they did not cancel ALL of his computer access etc.
Owners of the Dealership asleep at the wheel, regarding anything IT based !
@@StephenFogarty2023 I would have done the same after being shitted on like he had been by the company.
You reap what you sow.
The dealer asked me to set up their website which they had no clue how to do. I also listed cars on the dealership’s ebay account as part of my job. I set up my own website as well and brought in my own leads as a result of my own marketing. The other salesman wanted a piece of all that. You’re right, I wasn’t going to share. This ain’t socialism.
Cat Killer Doug
I feel like Doug is to the automotive industry what Adam Sandler is to movies. Probably because he's like the Happy Gilmore of the car world.
what
Before I watch the video I’ll make a guess. When he was a young buck selling dime bags to his friends he had major dreams of selling cars when he grew up. But unfortunately those dime bags of weed just wasn’t enough to make his dreams come true. So one day an older gentleman approached him wearing a suit and said I have a job for you, Doug thinking this it, this is how I’ll raise the money to start selling cars. So Doug was off to the races shipping coke from Columbia to Miami, and that’s the story!
morning
It's a good thing Doug didn't get into the non-selling cars.
Can we get a wider cross-section of society on your channel? Not that I could do better, but new faces would be wonderful.
Ain't this the Mexico Stig? I speak ño Mexican. I understood Land Rover.
Yay first

Gather around children, its story time with doug…
I had to unsubscribe after the new fish and Jarrad. Hate em!
But he has built a multi million dollar empire wearing bad shorts and boasting about how big his feetys are and won't fit in the back seat! Congrats but unsubscribed.
Nice typo in the title of this video. Can’t stand Doug either. Gives off a Walmart version Patrick Dempsey (who is a Target version of Paul Newman) wannabe race car driver/car dealer/youtuber.
You can at least tell us how you really feel?
How is he a wannabe if he does all of those things tho lmao
Umm, isn’t every car guy on the planet a wannabe race car driver? I’ll raise my hand to that!

I only came here to say this guy puts off chomo vibes. Will not watch the video
