If your trying out the tac vanes, and are going to the long distance stuff, I would highly reccomend trying out the tiny tac vanes the shield cut 1.75” in a 4 fletch 2degree helical. That stabilized a 700+ grain standard diameter arrow with a 3-1 broadhead for me. I think the smaller vanes would lend an advantage at the tac shoot! Good luck!

Super cool review I originally built the .003s with the titanium half out just finished a set of 300s match grades with the 65 grain ethics components. Which is the insert and sleeve and you are right they are laser straight. The aluminum half thought you were showing in your review is a victory half out from before they switched to the taper lock the aluminum Easton one looks just like the titanium one but black. I used my titanium halfouts in a set of full metal jacket deep six injections that I got on sale instead of using the hit insert also.

I've been using the 5 mm axis for a year in target and 3D; I like them because they are unexpensive and durable, but they are heavy and I'm planing to move towards the Hexx. The new 4 mm axis with lighter gpi seems interesting as long as they remain less expensive than the target alternatives. My problem with them would be the outserts: outserts are terrible for practicing against targets. I think that I'll stay with the Hexx...

I recommend the firenock outserts.. I just made up a hole dozen of the 250 spines.. they fly awesome from my bow. I've been waiting for these to come out for so long lol. The outter diameter is a lot less than the injections too..

Nice review, I shoot a 300 spine victory vap with a 75 gr outsert and 100 gr annihilator. It weighsout at about 448 gr and my bow loves it. I might try a half dozen of Easton for the heck of it see what the difference is

  • @piche090391

Easton really dropped the ball by removing the DeepSix carbon injection and putting these new Axis 4mm on the market with a big GPI difference. Yeah it's cool they are thinking about the trendy stuff of high FOC, but they did not thought that through. For example, if you want to use the DeepSix inserts and want a heavy arrow there's literally one company that makes components for that goal (Iron Will, great product but expensive as well). The new half outs are by far inferior to any other halfout for the 0.166 ID, the best I have found is the DaySix.

Looks like they are buying the outserts from Victory. They look just like the outserts from my old Victory vaps, atleast the black one you showed. Im shooting the vap SS with the 50 grain outserts which have been amazing. I use the AAE Max Impact glue with great results, havent had one pull out even shooting into bag targets which as you probably know sucks when shooting and pulling out arrows with outserts lol

I’m transitioning from FMJ’s to Axis for hunting this Fall and will give the 4mm with outserts a try. Although the FMJ’s are great arrows, they bend easily. On another note, shooting Black Eagle P23’s and P26’s for 3D this Spring and have been very pleased with their performance.

How much would a dozen arrows set up how yours are cost?
I'm looking at getting a new arrow set up this year. Wayne and I talked a lot about the broad heads he is using and I think they would be epic with those arrows. My previous set up was fmj with 100 grain heads that you guys built for me 5 years ago, I've either broke or lost most of them. Hence me needing new arrows while going with a lighter arrow set up but I want to add a little more f.o.c. to my setup like you have these built like.

Victory has had the .166 shafts dialed in with the vap tko, vap, and vap ss. I think their components are the best out of all the micro diameter shafts with how much the sleeve goes over the shaft and the selection with 50, 75, and 95 grains. GPI is lighter for equivalent spines on the VAP. With any luck the Axis is more durable because the durability of the VAP's is woeful

Damn, those are spendy. I'll stick with regular 5mm Axis arrows.

I wouldn’t buy shit that The bowmars have a hand in. Tac vanes absolutely suck.

Heck no buy ethics archery inserts. You gonna spend the money on arrows might as well build them to last. Why you want an arrow with weak inserts. Use gorilla glue sticks don't believe all the hype. Works just as good

Well I know many whom have had issues with ethics inserts bending. Myself included and in 3d foam targets and have had others that have had zeeo issues with them. Tried alu/steel and combos of both all bent for me att 80lbs 29" draw length with axis 5mm. Shame as they are a beauty system and Hoss is a great guy, but I won't use the inserts anymore based on my experience with them
