The episodes are getting better, no more 10000 shiny unaffordable Rolex or Richard Mille. Just beautiful journey of watches and that GMT looks so killer.
@@Hitmondan165 a client's employee, a pretty young one, saw my casio f 201 wa on my wrist and commented on how nice of a watch it is. So, different people different taste I guess. But other than that one instance, you are right.
My man brought a Dragon Ball Z & Marc Jacobs along with everything else. He gets it! Love seeing the progression in collecting. Wish more guests would bring their stuff they think nobody wants to see. That’s the stuff I crave to see most! Great collection & great video!
Jimmy Actually made a good point about using a watch to check the time. Just one look and you're done. With a phone, the screen just sucks you in and you're taken out of the moment.
There's something that fascinates me from this show. It's the fact that although the vast majority of people might share the same watch, with a same reference number, etc... each person ends up having a different intricate story. I don't know, seems pretty stupid, but it's these small things that make this world so fascinating.
This is a great episode. I didn't know Jimmy Yang, but his down-to-Earth style and demeanor - now I like this guy! His watch collection is so honest and attainable. Glad to NOT see a solid gold AP Royal Oak or some green-dialed 44mm steel sports watch. This is a REAL collection and that makes this episode special.
^ this was the reason I got into watches. Looked at getting an Apple Watch and decided I didn’t want to get bombarded with more smartphone things when I just want to check the time.
This is the best watch collection presentation I've seen. Every watch is tied to moments in his life. Jimmy really gets the essence of watch collecting.
VERY first watch I got was a two tone Citizen Eco-Drive from my father when I was like 6 or 8. 33 now STILL runs and I would NEVER get rid of it, if some jeweler offered to trade me a Patek (very unrealistic lol) for it I wouldn't do it
Loved the 女人街 reference and the mention of foiled DBZ cards. Such a nostalgic memory. Special to have a Hong Kong American on Hodinkee ! If you read this Jimmy, big fan and so nice to get some insight on your collection.
I always appreciate it when people buy watches to wear them and don't care about getting them beat up. All the dents and scratches are part of the history you put into your watches and the stories you tell about them. This is a great collection.
What a great, down to earth, collection. Sometimes a watch collection says a lot about a person. The Steve Caroll Speedmaster was such an amazing, thoughtful, gift!
Love this episode, I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Yang. I had spotted him with different watches on the shows and movies he's been in and I always wondered if he enjoys them or if they were just props. Thank you Hodinkee for this episode.
I very much enjoyed that not only Jimmy has a very diverse collection, but each timepiece had a cool story behind it. Regardless of its monetary value, each timepiece had a sentimental value for him. Thank you for the great stories!
Talking Watches and Hot Ones are tied for my absolute favorite celebrity interview shows/formats, from the US at least. The stories we get are so much more engaging.
Yes! Finally! From all the interviews and standup shows of Jimmy he seems to have a great collection, been curious for a while and now you guys actually sat down with him! Ohhh boy this will be a treat.
As a Guangdong grew up, I can totally relate to the Datejust story. The fluted bezel jubilee bracelet Datejust is exactly the image of what a watch would look like to me. I got the 36mm DJ two years ago and I also own a G-shock as well lol
I love how he kept all his old watches and showed the history of his collection as he got older. They have a nice story that's attached to them. I am very much interested in the watches people start with and how they've upgraded through the years.
What a nice modest guy with a modest collection, it would be great to see more collections of this size, with more interesting stories. I love the idea that his mum has an opinion on Rolex colour choices.
I like that he seems to really wear each of the watches. I have a few nice pieces and the more banged up they get over the years the more I like them lol
Watching this makes me think it would make a great series for you guys to do this show but with just normal everyday people. The stories you'd get may be pretty cool.
I'm not Asian but loved the point about the two-tone datejust and old Asian men. Still to this day, I see old Asian men rocking that watch in spades..even at the gym. Honestly though, I see older men of all ethnicities rocking that watch. The two-tone DJ is the old man special.
More of this, Hodinkee. It got really really lame there for a bit with a line up of generic episodes with boring cookie cutter stories about unattainable watches. Thanks for doing this.
Jimmy is funny as anybody else out there, but what stands out here is that the collection is connected to life. He could just buy whatever, but he seems be collecting as a part of life, not as an artificial hobby.
Love all the types of collectors on Talking Watches. Although, I was surprised that the connection to space wasn't brought up with Steve Carrell gifting Speedmasters for the Space Force show haha.
I’m so glad someone in the watch community finally recognized Jimmy! When I first watched his comedy show on UA-cam and noticed his Kermit, I was stunned. Then, I believe he was telling his n word joke about the black friend and the song. He’s pretty funny in my books
It was kind of nice seeing a more every day, affordable collection with watches that had some personal meaning and stories. I mean it's cool to see the endless Pateks and APs etc but you can't beat a Trunks watch and a Seiko 5!
that Trunks watch is just amazing, to me its the best watch in his collection. If only I was able to keep my watch from when I was 8 to 13 yrs old about 30 years ago, my watch collection would have been complete. Thanks for this video, now I know what has been always missing in my collection.
Love this episode much better than your typical show, you can tell our friend knows about watches on Tiffany's he gets it, he's knows is special piece, that's when you knows and starts approaching with nicer pieces..great content 👍👍...into this hobby...
The episodes are getting better, no more 10000 shiny unaffordable Rolex or Richard Mille. Just beautiful journey of watches and that GMT looks so killer.
That GMT is definitely more than 10000.
@@danielx40 I didn't mean it from price point.
👍👍👍
agree
you poor indians can't even afford a bathroom let alone a rolex😂😂😂
LOVE THIS, no pretentiousness, this is what we want, not try hards
@Kevin Park dw about them, wear what has meaning for you. There are so many watches with so much history, what history do those girls have? 🤣
@Kevin Park The only people who care about what watch a guy is wearing is another guy who likes watches lol
@@Hitmondan165 a client's employee, a pretty young one, saw my casio f 201 wa on my wrist and commented on how nice of a watch it is. So, different people different taste I guess. But other than that one instance, you are right.
@Kevin Park no they didn't, how many girls do u date tf?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, credulous BS's get a lot of thumb up!
A watch enthusiast who loves his watches because they have personal meaning. Not because they're good investments or high status. So amazing.
Never in a million years did I think I would be watching Talking watches with Jian-Yang from Silicon Valley 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Same but i love it!!!
My man brought a Dragon Ball Z & Marc Jacobs along with everything else.
He gets it! Love seeing the progression in collecting. Wish more guests would bring their stuff they think nobody wants to see. That’s the stuff I crave to see most!
Great collection & great video!

Yes and no notification to distract you
This exact reason made me stop using the Apple Watch!
Not to mention that it has the same disadvantage of a pocket watch: you have to take it out, operate it somehow and then put it back again.
"I dont have any idea, just a lot of buttons" This was the most relatable line in any talking watches

Absolutely ❤️
Huge fan of Jimmy ever since the show Silicon Valley. Even though he didn’t have a ton of lines he killed it each scene.
JIN YANG!!!!
Eric Backman, this is your mom. You’re not my baby.
LOL
His chemistry with Ehrlich was spectacular
Jimmy is a very likable guy.

Watch all his clip compilations in the show Silicon Valley, you will lose your sh** 😂
'I don't wanna reach into my phone every time I wanna check the time and then end up checking 5 apps on top...' This REALLY resonated with me!
^ this was the reason I got into watches. Looked at getting an Apple Watch and decided I didn’t want to get bombarded with more smartphone things when I just want to check the time.
Dang excellent point
@@jonasjung256 look int the withings smart watch might be up your alley.
Steve Carell what a legend!! Loved this episode, Jimmy's the man.
That Rowing Blazers Seiko is so nice! Very personal, unique watch with a lot of personality coupled with a very solid build!
Nothing beats Talking Watches, i mean nothing on UA-cam can come close, just got in from work saw the notification instant smile!
Same feeling here bro
Same!
Lol that's very subjective
Absolutely my feeling…
What about cars for car guys? Tech for nerds? And so on...
Jimmy is such an badass, what a cool collection. Feels like a collection I’d have at an achievable level, fun and classy.
I really liked this episode. It really comes to tell that collecting is not always about who has the most expensive watches.
I agree that the collection is better but he’s not that educated on watches which made it less good
@@davidkaplan5517 Actually not many on TW are knowledgeable in IMO. How many can explain in simple words how a watch works?!
Exactly
Damn, what an amazing guy, and such a personal collection! One of the best talking watches episodes!
As someone whose family is also from Hong Kong, I can also attest that all my uncles have a two-toned Datejust. It's such an iconically HK thing hahah
🤣My dad has a two-tone DJ and a two-tone Prince Oysterdate
Yup, family from HK as well. My grandfather gave me his two toned Omega seamaster and all his other watches were two toned. Haha
I'm Korean and my dad had the full white gold 36mm date just with Roman numerals 😂
I’m Filipino my dads are all fake
It was a Singaporean thing here too in the 70s and 80s. My Dad was one of them.
This episode was really great. Jimmy is genuinely hilarious and relatable, his joke about his G Shock running for 2 years made me laugh out loud.
This is the best watch collection presentation I've seen. Every watch is tied to moments in his life. Jimmy really gets the essence of watch collecting.
I absolutely LOVE this collection. A collection from the heart, not for prestige or business.

Space force is amazing. I saw steve wore a speedmaster in the show. perfect for his character. Great episode of hodinkee!
Didn’t know Jimmy was a watch guy!!! Been loving his career grow and love him enough as is. That’s about doubled now that I know he’s a watch bro
I look forward to these so much, love hearing peoples stories
I love Jimmy-a. Seems to be very down to earth talking about his collection.
Absolutely humble and great stories that comes with each piece.
very interesting
Today I saw a UA-cam short of Jimmy and thought: He should do a video with Hodinkee. You just made my day 😅
Oooo another reason to like Jimmy. He was great in Space Force. So great he took time to share his passion.
One of my favorite comedians out there. Awesome progression on this collection!

Such an awesome collection - the sort of thing that a "normal" guy would have.
normal fellas would have 2 Rolex in their drawer? :D
Since I saw Jimmy with his vintage gmt master on Netflix I know there is one day he will be on talking watches
Talking Watches and Hot Ones are tied for my absolute favorite celebrity interview shows/formats, from the US at least.
The stories we get are so much more engaging.
We need so much more of Talking Watches! Also, great episode - such a vibe and honest, straight up guy!

What a SPECTACULAR collection. Loved this!
I love the smaller collection videos. Gives me hope as a G shock only owner. Love to hear about the introduction of peoples collection.

This was one of the best so far. Love that Jimmy buys the story. Those are always the best collections.

Solid solid episode. Hats off to you guys and jimmy.
Your best guest yet!! 😂👏🏻👏🏻 I love Jimmy!!!
Definitely agree that Seiko is the Asian Rolex! Lol. The seiko 5 was a cool watch
Really like seeing a watch collection that starts at the beginning and not 20 Pateks. Lots of fun!
I love this. Such a great collection that I'm sure will grow over time. Jimmy is one of the coolest.
Ever since I saw Jimmy’s special when he’s wearing the vintage Pepsi. I’ve been waiting for you to come on talking watches. This is awesome

cant wait for Nico to react to this collection. so much sentimental value in every watch!
Yes! Well produced and hats off to JOY!
What a great episode, again. Thank you Jimmy and Hodinkee.
So excited when these come out. What a great collection that runs the range.
The Seiko 5 with that mint green strap looked dope af.

Love this video and Jimmy O. Yang is amazing!
I love Talking Watches, as I get to learn so much about interesting peoples collections. It'd be amazing to do something like this!
His collection was so simple yet so elegant.
Love if he could come back in couple of years and see his next collection.
I don’t think we’ll ever see another Marc Jacob’s watch on this series again.
This was such a pleasure to watch, unique collection, humble guy, Jon is a wealth of knowledge. 👏🏻 Hodinkee

Love all the types of collectors on Talking Watches. Although, I was surprised that the connection to space wasn't brought up with Steve Carrell gifting Speedmasters for the Space Force show haha.
Jimmy a eems like a decent guy. Great personal collection rather than Mayer and his endless PPs (not that he likes to mention it… :) )
Keep up these videos they’re perfect

This was a fun episode. Thanks HODINKEE!
Respect to Jimmy and not just throwing money to pose like everyone else. Love it
Love that Jimmy, gave Steve a seiko. He is now the proud owner of a quality Seyko timepiece

Wow, fantastic episode. Thank you for this. Please do more "sane" watch collections.

Well done Hodinkee, because you guys finally tell the watch stories and not the stuff.
NO WAY! I was just watching his special and noticed he was wearing a GMT and wondered what else he had. The timing on this is almost spooky...
Loved this episode! We need more of these!
This was such a nice talk I enjoyed it ver much. Thanks. Agreed about the seiko 5.
love this interview, well done! 👍🏼
would be nice if you show the list of the watches at the end.
This, this is the formula. Real people with real watch collections. Also, can we please talk about those Aviators his dad was rocking? Amazing.
Best Talking Watches yet!
that Trunks watch is just amazing, to me its the best watch in his collection. If only I was able to keep my watch from when I was 8 to 13 yrs old about 30 years ago, my watch collection would have been complete. Thanks for this video, now I know what has been always missing in my collection.
Great episode. Love this guy. All the watches could be bought by a normal person.
