It’s shocking that such a simple and widely used feature as strokes/glows has not been added to one of the most popular art programs… thank you for the tutorial. ;)
@@GenevievesDesignStudiohey, this video is great, I can finally outline letters 🙌🏻 I’m having a small problem though that the outline isn’t smooth, it’s jagged, any ideas how to stop this or correct it please?
If you have issues with your entire layer filling when you tap the shape you want to outline, it might be because your threshold is already set to 100%. At least that was the case for me. Instead of tapping and letting go, try holding the shape and lower the threshold from there. Hope this can help someone and thanks for the nice tutorial! :)
This is the simplest method I’ve seen so far. I’m simply in awe of your ingenuity in finding an easy and effective workaround for Procreate’s app design blunder😃 Thank you so much for sharing!
I feel like I'm the only one who followed this step by step and it didn't work. I got the fuzzy feather, but when I try to make it sharp and solid it just fills in the whole canvas white. I've started over and followed this several times with the same result. Any chance you know intuitively what Im doing wrong?
This is faster than any other method I’ve seen. Eliminates a step or 2 vs. the Gaussian blur method. Same thing here but utilizing the power of the selection tool’s core features. Killer! 💯
developers have been asking for this feature for many years, they just don’t care, they don’t like their users, but they make an animation application that no one needs
I don’t know why but everything I do doesn’t work, I’ve been trying all day just trying to get a freaking stroke and none of the tutorials help at all. Whenever I get to the last step it does nothing at all.
omg this is sooo helpful !! at this point i used to save png, upload in icloud, and do the white stroke in photoshop on pc ... but THIS ... sooo neat !! Thank you for this :D
Finally someone that understands what I am looking for. This is the BEST tutorial I have seen for an outline. This will make my line art much easier. THANK YOU a ton
I'm so confused that absolutely nothing happens at all when I go to do the automatic part (starting at 1:20 in the video). Anyone have tips on how to get it to work?
Im having a hard time with this one. No matter how many times i try it exactly how you suggest I cannot select the object on the second layer at the end to sharpen the boarders. It selects the background instead and then inverts the colors I have chosen so that the outline is now white and the background or negative space is now the color i filled with. Any suggestions?
The second part of this never worked for me. I watched the video many times, made sure I did exactly the same: the only thing that happens when I slide my finger after tapping is that it selects the colour under my finger. No sharper outlines.
When you did the tutorial for making Bold text bolder, I was wondering if there was a way in Procreate to add strokes (couldn’t find one). You are much more clever than I am - figuring this way to do it! Thanks so much for sharing your bag of tricks!!!
I feel really dumb asking this as I'm seeing the tutorial and following step by step... but I just can't seem to get it to work. Mine always comes out as the feathered part of the image being empty and the rest of the layer filling up with the color I chose. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For those who didn't get it to work: do you have an active "reference" layer? I was struggling so long but it worked when I removed the reference label from my lineart layer.
Nope, that doesn’t work. I removed reference and my entire canvas is STILL filling in after I try to fill in the line. Such a pointless video. It worked for a while but here I am back, having the same issue again.
I was surprised to see you on Joe’s video. I’m subscribed to you both. I was a finger style guitarist until 2004 when a stroke eliminated my left hand. I was nowhere near Joe’s level. I’m a big fan of procreate. I use it to draw characters for Moho animation. Nowhere near your level as well. 77 years along.
Thank you, it looks like the stroke didn’t really work on the whiskers. Also on the tip of the leaf, it is rounded where it should be pointy. Is there a way to fix this?
I've been trying this for an hour, and I can't get the blurry to smooth out. I'm doing EXACTLY as you show in the video, and as soon as I click on a shape & drag the stroke, all it does is fill my entire canvas.
For those who are facing the problem of getting full canvas coloured , i faced the same u need to just hold the object with pencil and increase the amount , dont use finger
it works like 1 time out of 3 idk why, i keep coming back here to follow everything and it randomly works and i swear im not doing anything different !! 😭
Hey! I bought your big brush bundle, but I don’t know how to add the paper and paint to procreate, would you help me please? (Sorry for muy English, I speak Spanish)
Hello. Can I ask you something? The leaves on the back, is it sticker or drawing? And would you also make behind the scene/making/editing of your videos? I also want to make vids like you. Thank you 😊
Hello, i have a question. Is somebody knows yt channel with drawing that has a bit similar style to genevieve. I forgot the name, cause it was some time ago. Only things i remember are two videos: with boy sitting by the window in the winter and with lady riding a horse in woods. Please answer if you know this channel
First do the stroke as in this video. Then select the layer content you have the artwork on, tap on the stroke layer on the layer menu (while the selection is still active) and tap "clear". This should leave only the stroke, not the solid fill.
It’s shocking that such a simple and widely used feature as strokes/glows has not been added to one of the most popular art programs… thank you for the tutorial. ;)
Pretty crazy! A simple gradient tool would be amazing too 🤞
They don’t have it in PS either!

By threshold do you mean feather?
Thank you! This happened to me and worked perfectly! Just to clarify, tap on the shape and start sliding with the finger after choosing automatic
It's still happening even when I turn it down???

By far the most straight forward explanation of this process I’ve seen. Thanks!

Same sadly :(
Me too
I am having the exact same problem and i thought i was the only one.
I am having the same issues as well
Same! It’s unprofessional how the uploader isn’t answering anyone’s questions; why make a tutorial when you don’t want to help your audience out?

@@korky_maki_roll4401 how are you feeling about it now?
When I pressed colorfill it colorfilled the whole layer. I dont know how you made it to outline.

super easy!! prob the best version of making an outline yet
Don't understand why there needs to be a work around. Should be a feature.
Thank you so much for making this video! 😁
Thank you so much for this. Literally what I’ve been looking for to stop the background layer colours showing through to the above layer.
Thanks Procreate Queen! 👑

I'm so confused that absolutely nothing happens at all when I go to do the automatic part (starting at 1:20 in the video). Anyone have tips on how to get it to work?
This doesn’t work, when I press automatic, the entire canvas fills in instead of the outline :/
It has the percentage too high then, slide your finger left to decrease it
The best outlining technique I’ve tried. Thanks!
Holy smokes that was so much easier than what I was doing!!!! THANK YOU!!!

I followed this exactly but I can't get the outline to change from being feathered to solid. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you!
I learned that you need to merge the layers and I managed to do it by selecting the background and click on invert
So this made things a little faster. I normally do this in Ai, but being able to achieve this in procreate is dope
For anyone is having trouble with the outline after pressing automatic make sure to press on the figure with your pencil and not your finger.
