Now that there are no 107/Aygo/C1, Panda, Up, Fiestas etc for sale and the cheapest Ford is near £26,000 Puma the small/cheap (@£15K !) market has been gifted to the Picanto and i10
Having owned a 2009 1.0 litre 4 cylinder and a 2011 1.0 litre 3 cylinder up to 105,000 miles of all types of driving. On Motorways, back roads and in town I cannot fault the Kia Picanto in any way. That 5 speed gearbox is especially sweet, even at higher mileages.
Cracking little review, I recommended a Kia Picanto to my Mother In Law last year, she bought a 2019 Poverty Spec back in 2023 with only 2000 miles on the clock! No issues with it so far, does the job she needs it for.
I had the previous "Mk" of GT line Picanto. It was just a "stop gap" car for me but I kept it four years. The engine was horrible (1.25) but the road holding impressed me, I could punt that through the twisties uncomfortably fast without so much as a chirp from the tyres. A very safe car that could be driven spiritedly and enjoyed and with an impressive level of equipment for a cheap car. The only issue it had was clutch judder after a damp night- absolutely awful and for that reason, I was only too pleased to trade it in this year.. for a Jimny, which is a whole load more fun..
I have a ‘23 registered Hyundai i10 1 litre Advance. Great car in my opinion, comfortable, well equipped and low running costs. Sister car to the Picanto.
Have had a 2014 Cerato for 9 years, love it! Decent power and a nice 6 speed old style proper auto, great air cond, decent handling, cheap servicing with a local mechanic. Shame a car like this can not be had for $20k new anymore.
My step-mum had a 1st gen faclifted KIA 'Ceed 3 as one of her motability cars, this was KIA's first car that wasn't just cheap and it has been one of the best cars she's had, though as one of them was a PT Cruiser cabrio and another a bright yellow Juke that doesn't necessarily say much! As for small cars that are actually pretty good for space the Micra K13 is surprisingly spacious, much more space in the the back than a Juke and better sized doors. Smaller boot but with the seats down you can fit a surprising amount of Ikea stuff in it!
The Kia Picanto has really evolved beautifully over the last 20 odd years. Where I live they all seem to be automatics, but they are good entry level cars and very well equipped. It's nice to see one with a manual and small cars are always more fun with a manual.
my mum ( in her mid 70's ) has had the prev generation Picanto 5 years ( bought as 6 month old ex demo ) .. she loves it but is considering trading it when she sees something newer she likes .. might be one of these if she sees a colour she likes
Such a shame that they’ve completely over styled it now. We had a 68 plate X-Line S 1.25 4 cylinder and it was such a smart design that hasn’t aged a day. No lane keep assist, silly digital speedo etc either! What a wonderful little thing. We realise we should never have sold it.
I tell you what Matt, I presently drive a Seat Mii which I've owned seven years from new and I still like it very much. I've often thought if I had to replace it I don't know what i'd replace it with, there doesn't seem to be that many small car options now and I absolutely do not need / want an SUV. I think your Kia review may have piqued my interest!
In Australia the Kia Picanto base model is around aud $20000 along with the MG3 but 3 years ago the Suzuki Baleno GL was the cheapest car at under aud $20000 but no longer available in Australia because no blind spot monitoring and not forgetting in the same factory in lndia they make the Toyota Starlet which is a rebadged Suzuki Baleno and any car that is associated with has to be really good and we actually own a 2017 Suzuki Baleno bought it second hand end of last year and it's 7 years old not one problem with it after all Suzuki is so much better than Kia and definitely miles ahead of Chinese MGs
Really like the facelift, makes the previous models look much older than they actually are. Was that the 1.2 litre engine in the GT-line car you tested?
Why are modern car designs so aggressive looking from the front ? Would all benefit from more gentle styling as 30+ years ago. Mini's, P5's, P5b's and P6's are elegant.
People complain about th 0 to 60 time of over 15 seconeds. I believe the Mini mk 1 was almost 30. I might just get one of these to spice up my retirement years.
I saw a piece on Fifth Gear highlighting that Kia & Hyundai seem to be the only company selling small entry level cars. What's going to happen in 5- 10 years time when new young drivers need a small car to get started. Traditional "small" cars like the yaris, micra, clio etc are now as big as what a Carola from 2000's used to be. Kia are hoping that when someone starts with their entry level cars, they will move on to their bigger cars as they "mature".
It is a nice little city car. If you are doing any decent mileage though I would probably avoid it. I haven't driven one but usually little cars will scream on the motorway. Engine being strung out, tyre noise and wind noise. Not a fun time.
You're right by saying unfortunately lane keeping assistance. I find them quite dangerous as they're over sensitive and pick up cracks in the road and throw the car all over the place
What a shame, really liked the previous one, can't stand looks of this new one. Local BMW independent specialist has them as courtesy cars, great little thrummy 3 cyl engine.
The front of the car is a right mess. A shame your once quality interior walk or sit arounds have gradually been distilled down to a frantic description whilst you're driving. Be a pity to have a head on collision just as you reach 100K subs. If you go to all the trouble of arranging and doing a review then make it worthwhile instead of throwing out the baby with the bathwater. This is my favourite channel so my feedback is said with good intentions.
An engaging review, as ever. However, the car, like most contemporary models of all brands, is hideously ugly. Nice to have proper twirly dials, and sounds very good, tho 😊😊
I hate the styling...would much prefer if it had bug eyes, like an old Impreza, Fiat 500, or Daewoo Matiz. That being said, I would love to see more cars like this on American roads. Just a small, simple hatchback with a stick shift. Those are my favorite kinds of cars, but becoming rarer by the day on my side of the Atlantic. 🫤

They are great little cars, I liked the old one too and they seem very well made

Got one on order and it's in that green colour.
I just wish I'd been born earlier. I hate the way the automotive industry is going. At least this one still has an ICE.
My daily is a pro ceed diesel, brilliant car and I've had it 7 years

1.2L but four-cylinders! Great to see KIA bucking the trend of 3-pots. A superb economy car!
Thank you for the review, sir.
The picanto used to be such a cute car! Not a fan of the front end light bars that seem to be in fashion at the moment
Totally agree , that front end styling is pretty grim 😞

Nice piece of Machinery. Have driven the earlier version of this and it was nothing special. This looks and sounds sharp. Thanks for vid. later 😀
Good for quick reclining 😉

The new Picanto is a cracking looking small car, I hate that so many manufacturers thing a small car should be cheap and naff
As an old Picanto owner I think it's far too fussy inside and out. I can see massive repair costs for the slightest front or rear bump.
Great little review of a cracking little car . Would be interesting if you could get an Hyundai i10 for comparison 😊

Knobs, yes! But, like most new cars, it's very overstyled for my tastes.
Personally think the front is too busy, kind of weird looking.
Only 200 people to go before the magic 100,000! 😁👍
165!
@furiousdriving quick buy a proton, that will get you across the mark 😊
@@terryatkinson899 haha If only I know people with Protons...

I'm thinking of moving to the UK. Is LPG autogas available at service stations there?
Fiat still list the old Panda on their UK website and there is a rumour of MG doing a cheaper petrol only/non PHEV MG3 but I'd go for a Hyundai i10.
Cracking little car , don’t need the gimmicky display, proper dials please .

They should have kept the 1 litre turbo engine.
Yipee i'm here BUT, 5:19 Green not in my eyes, gray for me.
Anyone else?
Battleship grey..
@@adrianrowden8266 that's the kiddie.
The Dominos Pizza franchise that I work for has multiple Picantos one is about to be scrapped because of a cracked radiator.
Nice car

I really think it’s dangerous in almost every car
It's a shame you didn't mention power, torque, turbo???
Top of the range Picanto , or Top of the range Yaris Hybrid.......tough choice
Nice little car. It doesn't have that wet belt engine, does it?
that I dont know
Not sure about the 1 litre but I'm pretty sure that the 1.2 has a timing chain.
That's very nice, but I'm afraid I won't fit in it (192cm and 120-ish kg 😅)
I like the Picanto but I'm afraid that facelift is more of a mutilation. It looks like it's had its eyes gouged out, poor little thing.
I can't think of many cars that have been improved with a facelift.
Prettier than the last one which was plug ugly, but nowhere near as cute as the first.
The front looks horrible. Like it belongs on a much bigger car.
What a shame, really liked the previous one, can't stand looks of this new one. Local BMW independent specialist has them as courtesy cars, great little thrummy 3 cyl engine.
Best engine not available anymore. Great car though 👍 Kia make great cars, why bother with anything else 🤷

I would call the colour "mucus green", Hyundai does a similar shade of nasal discharge. Otherwise it looks like a great wee car.
How slow is this thing 😮😢
Fugly... very overstyled
It's an oil painting compared to the new KIA Tasman pickup truck!
Very weird looking car 😅
Swastika wheels. Interesting. Could very well be illegal in Germany. And the most boring, ugly colour known to mankind.

KIA NO NO NO NO 🤑🤢🤑🤢 my dad has has 2 kia soul's now he has gone futher downhill and got a dacia 😂😂😊
R u sure he went downhill because of Kia?
@kamrankhan-lj1ng not sure what you mean kia are rubbish cheap nasty 💩
