BRAVO- have watched many videos on early extension and this is by far the best video in understanding the problem of early extension and fixing it/ Five star plus and a classic keeper. Well done
Only just discovered your videos / channel today and watched a few of them this evening - really good stuff and helpful to improving some of my faults. Some great, simple drills that I know will help with my golf game to improve again as going through a sticky patch at the moment! 👍
I had the exact same problem as you, definitely trying this out next time I’m at the range and if you have any additional tips it would be much appreciated!
@@garethwillmott4234 the biggest impact was the preset rotation drill. At the range I still do it every shot, occasionally I'll do the preset rotation, then take my normal setup and hit a shot. I might start off with the spring back and spring forward for the first 10 shots though. Be patient with it, keep grinding. I went to the range 3 x week for the first 3-4 weeks and starting seeing changes. Some days you take a set back but just keep at it, it'll come. It doesn't happen overnight but it works - just gotta commit!
I have a problem with early extension, too. I like your explanation that E.E. is due to some other flaw, and that you need to fix the root cause in order to fix the problem. Still working on it.
Right on. If we don't force the DSW and instead just let them fall, the hands will naturally speed up thru impact. The resistance bands really work, I will have to try that
I watched Dustin Johnson and tiger woods swing with all angels and what i learn is Squatting is very critical in downswing and high handicapper can not do it . This will maintain your spine angle throughout the downswing and u will not extend. Is there any drill to make it easy for senior golfers?
Your videos are so awesome! When I see Early Extension, I always look for root cause as either 1) Downswing Too Steep or 2) Face Too Open. Now I can add 3) Arms Too Active from Top to the list. Would you say those are the top three causes of EE?
I am wondering... I have some issues with my back and on a bad day, my posture isn't as good as it should be. My pelvis and lumbar part of the spine are more vertical, and I bend higher, at the thoracic part. I took some time to analyze the anatomy of the swing and I feel that this posture problem is the main issue with the swing. At least mine. Not sure if my description will be "picturesque" enough... I guess we are supposed to "bend" in hip joints, then turn by rotating the pelvis around this inclined axis that our spine is creating. We should do this by bending front/lead/left knee and straightening right/trail/back leg. This move pushes the right hip higher and lowers the left hip at the end of the back swing. Then we can easily start the pelvis rotation by simply straightening the left leg, "pushing away from the ground" while using the right leg to follow the rotation and add a bit of lateral movement. Pelvis rotation triggers a "stretch reflex" in the muscle spine column forcing the torso and shoulders to rotate. This reflex is commonly used in almost every sports activity, esp in throwing, running, etc. But the key point is to create possibly to start this pelvis rotation. When the pelvis is in a more vertical position, we actually cannot use most of the muscles to rotate it. We have to rely on a very weak and slow motion. And usually, it promotes pushing your right hip to the ball causing terrible slices.
Question: in my backswing, my hips move forward a bit, I’ve worked on my arms slowing down, which has helped a ton. Lag is greater, distance is pretty substantial too, and I’ve been able to control the ball similarly as well. But keeping the butt line just doesn’t work for me still. Again, in the turn backwards, my hips actually move towards the ball a bit. Thoughts…
Very strange! Had an horrendous day today at the range , shanks/heel shots and open Face glory. All down to early extension. I've been reading up on it all day and found to look for the root cause and you have said it to a tee! I swing far too hard and fast with my arms and my body struggles to catch up
Very interesting. I have been doing this too. Way too much arm focus and first up speed. So I bought this lag trainer (grip with moving string as a shaft. Looks a little like a s*x toy, if it wasn't for the yellow foam ball at the bottom) and that helps me a lot to slow down the upfront arm movement. And incidentally helps with posture and early extension.
@@jchowngolf i think its a combination of a steep down swing and way too fast with the arms = have to stand up to save the shot, Going to try this and the ball drill from your other early extension video👍🏼 great content

Great drills. His swing looks great afterwards. I must admit that your golf teaching is by far the best .

I have exact same problems with him, will try these two drills. Thanks JC!
Keep making videos sir. U r the best.
Thanks for all the help so far JC! Huge difference in my ball striking in a short space of time, excited to continue the journey. 🙌

full course on EE would be awesome
Awesome!
I like your hitting net setup, where do i get that kind of net and what is it called? Please and thank you

Move the right hip back in the backswing and break the pelvis line. You will always early extend if your hips move forward on the backswing
@@jchowngolf yeah I’ll try to “push back” which feels so unnatural. Of course slowing the arms felt unnatural too at first.
If my body is going faster than my arms, how will I stop shanking which seems to happen to me when I tried this. The club is behind and open
Sounds like your body is moving closer to the ball, as your body leading will not result in shank shots

Good to hear you’ve figured out your root cause Garry! 🤙🏻

😁👍
Thanks bud!
His swing is identical to mine ive had early extesnion for about 2 years its horrible😂
Follow the process of eliminating the root cause and then work on reducing the actual early extension and you’ll change it in no time.
