Alto clarinets should be in every orchestra and ensemble. They just tie everything together.
Yes! 😊
Tout à fait d'accord. Super!
It's interesting hearing a clarinet choir do this piece, because all of these instruments are in the original orchestration (yes, even the contrabasses). It's kind of like a seeing a famous painting rendered in shades of red only. Neat. We need more band music that exploits the instrument families' outliers.
Clarinet sound more blue to me
We recorded also english folk song.
I wuold like you listened to it 😊
I love listening to the likes of Holst and Grainger because of their use larger instrumentations. Large clarinet groups, bass oboe, harmony flutes... I want more of it.
Not the alto clarinets. If they were truly in their original orchestrations they would be playing the opening solo in the fourth movement not the clarinets
Imagine your life coming to playing triangle in a clarinet choir
😂😂😂
We recorded also english folk song.
I wuold like you listened to it 😊
A whole section of 4 alto clarinets!
Yes 🤗
And what a difference it makes. They really tie the Bbs in with the bases. The alto is so underrated.
A slower and quiet string like sound of a ensemble of clarinet must be one of the most interesting sounds ever.
Thanks
my eye keeps getting drawn to that stellar E-flat clarinetist! E-flat players always have this spriteliness to their playing style, the way they move their hands and bodies. it’s mesmerizing!
He also plays surprisingly well in tune! I'm an Eb player, so I should know...!
Thank you very much 😊
Glad to see that even with an ensemble this large there’s still only one E flat! One is really enough
Sometimes I feel like one is too many 🤣🤣

And what a terrific job he does on that part!
Bravi tutti!
Grazieee
As a clarinetist and a lover of the Holst Suites, I love this!
Thanks
Wow!Wow! Wow! C'est la première fois que j'entends cette pièce. C'est le meilleur ensemble de clarinettes que j'ai entendu. Je jouais de la clarinette contrebasse (Leblanc) dans un ensemble à Trois-Rivières, Québec Canada. Bel enregistrement. Belle fusion de tous les instruments.
Magnifique.
Thanks
I remember playing this in my high school band i was a freshman MT Whitney high 1987 Visalia CA
I wish the Euphonium solo was in an Alto Clarinet and not a Bb tutti
Or at least done on the upper range of bass clarinet so you still get that full resonant brass quality.
I agree with you
We recorded also english folk song.
I wuold like you listened to it 😊
As an alto clarinet player (best horn for the blues after the electric guitar!), I agree: we are discriminated against. And this the most altos I've ever seen. Anywhere.
Wonderful! So much warmth coming out of those alto clarinets.
Thanks

One of my favorite pieces of music. I would never have imagined it arranged for a clarinet ensemble but it makes sense as they are a major component of the work. Very nicely done!
Bravissimi!!!
those clarinets emulating the percussion sound r really cool
😹😹😹 clarinet sound is funny
Thanks
A mark of an outstanding composition is that it works in various orchestrations. I love those mid-range and low clarinets! Here we have Gustaf Holst 2nd Military Suite arranged and performed by an exceptional clarinet choir.
thanks so much we are honored by this comment
Well played! I wish the video director had gotten more shots of the people playing solos and important lines, rather than the random shots that we see.
Thanks
There are some really quality moments of music making here, despite the distracting sharpness from the E-flat soprano in the second movement.
What a blast! About 40 clarinets!
this is great
Thanks
grazie a voi per la bella musica
Stupendo
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Muito bom! Abraços do Brasil 🇧🇷
Thanks
This is quite good, so I'm surprised that it sounds like the Bb clarinets didn't tune before the performance. The places where several Bb's play a melody together sound like their tuning is quite spread.
Good observation. It isn't terrible, but you can definitely hear the waves.
I don't think tuning beforehand makes much difference. You just have to listen and adjust. Evidently they didn't.
All Clarinets. All Sicilians.
Makes me feel better that even professional clarinets like still squeak occasionally
im kind of confused, is the solo for 1st movement "march" meant as an actual solo with a single player or with the entire section.
Per favore, Maestro Caputo, com'è formata l'orchestra? So riconoscere i clarinetti bassi e il contrabasso, ma non saprei dire se ci siano alti o corni di bassetto. Grazie.
Clarinetti contralti
Grazie.
What is that one very large clarinet that isn't black
Clarinetto Contrabbasso
Probably a so cold paperclip model (Selmer?).
It’s a paperclip contrabass. They were not made by Selmer but by Leblanc in the 1950-70’s. Orsi still sell them made from China.

grandissimi si possono avere le parti
graziee
I can tell that one drummer thinks he's better than the other because his sticks are strength 4 instead of 3.5.
😂
can you hear the spit? i can hear the spit.
:-)
Interesting they call it a clarinet choir, yet there was a timpani, AND OTHER PUERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS! Disliked 👎
Brass bands tend to have percussion as well; can't always be strict on the instrumentation
Also, not at all a one-off; they include percussion parts accurate to the original of many compositions they perform.
Where's the lie? Clarinets are there.
