Loved this video. No monolog, just runnin' and pitchin into the mangroves! I'm living on a houseboat in Key West, have been watching yer channel for about a month, and subscribed along the way. Scored a used kayak a few days ago, and am itching to get out and put some snapper in the pan!
so glad I stumbled across this channel . I snapper fished they key's my whole childhood ( mostly bridges ) . so this kinda brought back some memories thanks!
I need to do some bridge fishing videos. That would be a popular subject. I did a lot of shore/bridge fishing the first time I lived here. A pinfish cut in half diagonally and thrown out on a knocker rig. That was my go to for the snappers.
yeah a bridge fishing vid would be pretty cool. and that's definitely a good bait u need something tough to withstand all the trash fish pecking at the bait. although during the winter Time it's hard not to use live shrimp
living the dream bro! The keys are a special place, i visit from tampa bay when i can really love your videos now that i found them as i like to keep things simple also fishing off kayaks and even just paddling is always a great time.
Key West Kayak Fishing thanks for the reply, we have Mangos up here but the hang around the rocks and bridges, the bigger ones are a couple miles off shore.
Any tips or locations for mangrove snapper and bait catching around Bahia Honda besides the bridge pilings? I'll be there in June. Love your videos, by the way.
All the grass flats will hold Pinfish. If you put out a chum bag, everything around will show up. That's tarpon season time so walk the beaches with a net and catch blue crabs.
LUVED THIS VIDEO!!! Your persistence in the mangroves was hilarious. 5 seconds before you said it I shouted out I got you bitch!!!! Every fisherman has what these kinds of battles but not many people have one them. Excellent job Steve excellent job!
there's a reason why your not suppose to wrap your hand around your leader or mainline! because if the fish decides to run hard, you can say bye bye to your hands or fingers, and I wouldn't want that to happen to any of us! cool ass vid by the way, keep it up
Braid definitely not. Mono, not so much of a problem. We run a lot of long leaders so hand wrapping is pretty common. You just want to make sure you roll it on so it unwinds off your wrist/hand effortlessly.
I just started watching your videos I am enjoying them a lot. I have not seen all of them but have you made a video on your cast net technique? I am interested in seeing it. It doesn't look like you put the net in your mouth. I have a 6ft. net I haven't gotten proficient at it yet.
Hey David. I actually am working on that now. It is just crazy windy and rainy lately. I am going to do a video on smaller nets 3-6' and another one for the larger nets 7' + as I use two separate techniques. I hope to get them out soon, but the forecast does not look good for the ten days that I can see. I hadn't done one in the past although it is my bread and butter. There are just so many on youtube. I have a pretty good explanation on figuring it out though so figured I would post it up.
Yea, that's prime time. Lots of them around during that time period. Colder water pushes them onto the flats. Summer it is a rare find as the water is too hot on the flats.
Look for good live turtle grass (sea grass). Two to five feet depth is my choice. Chumming up the water a bit will bring them running. Even if you don't have a chum block like I use, if you just toss out some cut bank, they will come. Sometimes you have to be patient. I also catch them by prospecting. Set-up a small carolina rig with a tiny hook and some squid. Toss it out and slowly retrieve it. Fan cast around until you get into them. They are schooling fish so once you find one you should find others.
Backcountry out on the Gulf side. Cayo Aqua. Check out my playlists for Basic introductory fishing for the florida keys. Will help you out. Plus a whole bunch of videos about all kinds of fishing.
this will be my first time kayak fishing, plus I don't have pedal drive kayak, I will be paddle kayaking, so is Cayo Aqua easy access for first time kayak fishing person like myself.
Depends on the species. Most of the time I would choose Pilchards for their action and if you have enough you can use them to chum. Shrimp are necessary for Bonefish and sometimes Permit. Everything eats them which make them good and bad.
Switch things up and get down to Matagorda or Port Aransas and try and get on some speckled trout, flounder and reds. I am a bass fisherman in Texas as well and hit the coast as often as I can to keep things interesting. Its hard and a completely new game
John Pinney as a salt water fisherman primarily, I would go crazy if I were restricted to inland fresh.. I mean here in Australia we don't have the best freshwater fishery, but the coast just seems to be a nicer option
i must be a sick fuck because i dont like to see a good fish that i would eat be released.dont get me wrong i only fish when i want fish to eat not just to kill them but idk
Same basic principle for me. I fish for the sport primarily so mostly catch and release. That makes it easy for me as I can catch fish to eat pretty much at anytime. I fish a lot, so not interested in eating fish for every meal.
YOU CHUCKED THAT FISH!? THAT COULD'VE BEEN YOUR DINNER. I KNOW YOU'RE THE TYPE TO NOT TAKE FISH AT ALL IF POSSIBLE BUT REALLY!? THAT FISH HAD SOME MEAT ON IT...

thumbs up for the pulling that mangrove by hand out the groves, nice
Yea, that was my deepest mangrove pull. After the first yard, it was a contest of wills.
living the dream bro! The keys are a special place, i visit from tampa bay when i can really love your videos now that i found them as i like to keep things simple also fishing off kayaks and even just paddling is always a great time.
I am fine with just any water time. Gotta have a rod, but I am fine just cruising around and checking things out.
Nice cast with a spinning reel. I would have hit the mangroves a few time.. nice fishing 👍
Awesome videos!
Glad you liked it Morris.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome stuff dude
What a beautiful place..
way jealous looks like so much fun
Yea, I love the action packed fishing where you are constantly working. As close to bass fishing as it gets down here.
Nice mangroves and good video
Appreciate it.
Love ur vids and good throwing castnet
Thanks. Live bait is my bread and butter so the cast net is a very important tool.
wow man, awesome video...
Thanks Andrew. Glad you liked it.
im up in north FL, if i was down there I would be doing that every chance i got! great vid!
Yup, it doesn't matter where I am at, if there is a body of water, I'm fishing it. Most of my trips are all with 4-5 hours so not too bad.

Thanks. Grovers are my specialty. Catching and eating. LOL.
David and Goliath epic style battle coming soon! My money is on Steve aka (David) at this stage. Tight Lines man. Bring up the monsters.
I saw some of the big boys and decided it might be better to work up to them. Going to start off with the Juvi's.

have you thought of experimenting with a left-hand cranking spincasting reel on a short-handle grip bass rod?
my left hand doesn't work that way.
m surprised that vag dint have bugs! What launch are u using to go to jurassic key? Great videos much appreciated!
I launch out of Key Haven. This video has info about it. 15:30 mark. ua-cam.com/video/YwZ7y2Zchfg/v-deo.html
I need to go back with a mask and check it out more. It's a weird landmark.

You went above and beyond to get that one tangled
Yea, gotta put in the work. It was worth it.
can you still catch pilchards in late February-early march...I usually catch pinfish for snapper bait but assume pilchards work better
Yea, that's prime time. Lots of them around during that time period. Colder water pushes them onto the flats. Summer it is a rare find as the water is too hot on the flats.
If I turned those fish loose my spouse would kill me.
Yea, but if you kept bringing them home every day, you would get tired of them very quickly. Gotta mix it up.
What's the best time to catch pinfish here in Miami on the flats? Couldn't find any so no mangrove snapper: (

Backcountry out on the Gulf side. Cayo Aqua. Check out my playlists for Basic introductory fishing for the florida keys. Will help you out. Plus a whole bunch of videos about all kinds of fishing.

Uh no not really but there's plenty of water so just paddle around until you catch something
Did he not see that huge cuda swim by
Those are just lure stealers. Might as well just throw a dollar bill in the water.
Team jighead when
do a long key bridge fishing outing
i would be taking all of those fish home to my freezer.
What a name for the first one
Pilchards are the bait i was catching.
Key West Kayak Fishing I mean the spot
What type of go pro do you have
Going to key west in a few weeks also what is your bait of choice pilchard or shrimp
Primarily use the Gopro 4 silver (good audio). I also have a gopro 3 black that I use on a stick.
Depends on the species. Most of the time I would choose Pilchards for their action and if you have enough you can use them to chum. Shrimp are necessary for Bonefish and sometimes Permit. Everything eats them which make them good and bad.
PLEASE TAKE ME WITH YOU
Come on down. Lots of water to fish down here.
Key West Kayak Fishing Some day Ima make it there, but for now bass fishing in Texas and trout fishing in New Mexico is what I can afford
Switch things up and get down to Matagorda or Port Aransas and try and get on some speckled trout, flounder and reds. I am a bass fisherman in Texas as well and hit the coast as often as I can to keep things interesting. Its hard and a completely new game
