In today's video, I'll be covering some things that I've discovered recently (to my utter shock) after having lived in Italy for several years - and these might be the things one wants to know about when moving to Italy.

    ABOUT:
Hi! I’m Valeria - a writer, content creator, and the visionary behind Dramatically Expatic. With a background in TV, where I hosted my own program (think a bit more formal than my current UA-cam adventures), I now thrive on the dynamic and creative freedom of the web. As an expat in Italy for eight years and counting, I hold a BA in Theatre and Film Studies and an MSc in Media Organisation from the University of Bologna. I have always had a huge passion for discovering new places, having traveled all around the world since I was a child, so there were no second thoughts when searching for my niche. Here I share my best advice on visiting Italy, budget travel tips to Italy, and all things living in Italy entails!

Italians are not lazy at all! They do know how to appreciate down time, food, wine and just sit and enjoy just sit and being present. But my father and grandfather were masons and brink layers, such beautiful work, works of art, and grandmother was dressmaker and slaved cooking all the time. Best cook ever!!!Amore Italy

It's wild that people think it's okay to move to a country and not learn the language. Straight up rude.

Great video as always Valeria! I avoid expats groups because of the negativity. 1) Learning Italian: you don't need to be fluent, but making an effort with learning and speaking some Italian goes a long way! 2) We are in Southern Puglia and find larger supermarkets carry foreign foods and a number of foreign food restaurants like Japanese and Mexican. There are only 2 ingredients we couldn't find in a store here in Italy. 3) We are here for the work/life balance! I think some people have unrealistic expectations or think moving will solve their problems, but they are just bringing their problems with them. :)

Regarding language, you are spot on! I worked in Romania for 2 years in the 2000s, and while I only achieved a very basic conversation level, Romanians appreciated my efforts so much! (My coworkers wanted to learn English to get better jobs so I did not advance my Romanian skills very much in the 2nd year). 😊. My wife and I are already trying to learn Italian words and phrases now in case we buy a vacation home in Italy in a few years. Expats who live in a “language bubble” with their fellow expats really miss out on many cross-culture blessings and experiences I think.
