I'm 62. A working class man. Attended a Grammar school till the age of 16 and had no further education since,. I point this out simply as an act of intellectual honesty. Oborne is a natural conservative, he admits this, but his reports are illuminating and honest. He's a Conservative John Pilger, in my book. He doesn't shirk from the truth and certainly doesn't get enough credit. He works outside of the spin, lobby, political greasy pole climbers types and we need more like him. I have always been a Labour moderate but find that, like so many others, in all party's, our political and economic system is captured by the few to the detriment of nearly everyone else including large sections of the middle class. O'borne realises this as does the likes of Owen Jones and others. Our politicians put party before the voters and the two main party's are no longer broad churches with both becoming more right wing than in any time in modern U.K. political history. Both fail to tackle an economic system not fit for purpose. Prefering to tinker around the edges. I think Owen Jones has it right. An incoming Labour party will do nothing of merit and in future we will see the far right gain power here. Liberal politics is failing and it is failing because our politicians are largely self serving or moronic.

This means they tend to support the individual in relations with the state, supporting human rights, individual liberty, free speech, freedom of assembly, religion, etc. Internationally, the libertarian part means supporting international law and the rights of individual states over the brutality of 'might makes right' colonialism, imperialism and war. As a traditional libertarian socialist today, I find myself often allied not only with Peter Oborne (libertarian conservative), but American libertarians (libertarian libertarians) like Ron Paul, or Judge Napolitano regarding the imperial wars in Ukraine and Taiwan and the genocide in Palestine. I find the alliance very humanizing and calming. We just don't talk about economics (we're total opposites)
