Hey guys, If you haven't tried Render Network before and are reluctant to spend money on something you're unsure of, here's a 100 Euro voucher for you to have a taste of it: try.rendernetwork.com/bcon24 Also, Render Foundation can help you rendering your ambitious project, you can apply for a grant here: renderfoundation.com/grants
Family and CGI career advice-that’s exactly what we need! Please include as much of that as possible in an in-depth video series. It would be especially fun if you bring in that classic "C4D/Octane Pro Tips" vibe. 😁😁😁
IMO, you really picked a worse year to visit Bcon, this year there weren't many talks about VFX, photoreal CG, probably because of lack of jobs in VFX in recent years, the past years were full of really cool VFX talks.
So, regarding being a parent and how it affects my career. It is definitely a shift when you have a child, but it is so worth it. What I had to do is, change my schedule according to my child. If you properly change the schedule to accomodate them, then it's good. But if one is hesitant to change their schedule according to the kids, then it'll be difficult when it comes to ambitions and passsions. But ofcourse, there will be sacrifices, and from my experience, it is so much worth it! Anyways, I have been watching you for a long time. Always enjoyed it. Hope to see more man.
about the last part, managing family and your professional life, I should say it'll blossom, it will expanded like a fractal image like you had never seen before. so keep going man.
Great vlog! Great seeing you around the conference, we didn't get to chat this time, but I got to meet you in person at the Video Copilot conference in Barcelona. I have a 2.5 a half year old boy, and it absolutely changed my perspective and goals. I still have some dreams and goals I'm working on, but far more slowly and more for personal fun, than career building. For me, efficiency is the new name of the game. Being efficient during work hours, and resting plenty, so I can show up as a husband and dad as best I can. No regrets!
The Blender community is Inspiring, I hope someday in the future Blender will inspire more Open-Source Projects, the world has room for more tools to create.
I have 5 kids. It takes up an enormous amount of time. But as they get older, they become more independent, and I do get some more time on my own. The biggest thing for me was to stop trying to resist my responsibilities. I needed to accept the reality that I really don't have any "free time." I needed to embrace the time when I am with my family and not look over my shoulder, longing to get back to making cool stuff on my computer. When I did that, everything got easier. I would be interested to hear your take on work and family.
Amazing stuff as always! Would love to know more about your work life balance with 3 kids. I would love kids one day but also worry how it will affect my career and passions for this industry.
I have two kids and it's challenging to balance between creative work and family. I would say at some point you have to make a choice and lean to one or other side more. I personally choose to spend more quality time with the family!
I am a father of 2 children (11 and 3). Also a vfx artist and cinematographer (more than 20 years of experience). I am proud of my skills and I think I have a good level, I have directed and worked on several projects and I have also had to be a teacher in different schools. My goals have been more focused on being an excellent father than a great cinematographer. Although I don't leave aside my goals, my children are more important. In addition to this in my region (south America) the labor issue has become very hard in terms of vfx, so I have had to look for other economic alternatives because this niche is dying by leaps and bounds. On a personal level, my goals are to create a film project, movie or short film, but while that happens, my efforts are more focused on maintaining the family economy with other trades and focus on the company and education of my children. P.S. What is that lamp in the background that moves like little particles of light?
Defintely less time to spend on art, learning, with two young kids. But I keep my head in the game nonetheless. Respect for running your compagny and yt channel with 3 kids! Super Wife I'm sure :)
I'm really interested in how you manage the family side with the kids. I've been married for two years and we are thinking of having kids in the very near future. Also, I'm glad you're back. It's been a while.
My 9 month old kid was key to start improving my habits. Now my watch says I stand up 20 times per day instead of 2 or 3. As a CG artist we need time to relax and have fun. A workaholic live drives yo to depression, anxiety and maybe death. As an advice you just have to delete your social media apps and then, you will have extra 2 - 3 hours per day to enjoy your life with family. Children are amazing, take a lot of time but it's worth it.
Changing your name won't change the fact this is your 3rd account you made to spread negative comments about blender on YT. How meaningless your life have to be to dedicate your life troll and spread negativity about a free software. We gotta tax oxygen at somepoint.

Also, Houdini and Blender makes the most perfect pipeline. My personal favorite.
it was a beautiful surprise :)

Me and my wife have 5 kids and I deeply relate to your sentence: 'when you're outnumbered as a parent' 🤣.
I am glad you back Andrey!
