Just a little sidenote, the "forbidden fruit is always the sweetest" line is a callback from "Hey Melissa", which was one of the Nightmare Times that I think was technically unaired as a NT episode (there's a recording of the zoom call where the script was read, somewhere on UA-cam. It's very low-quality and unedited, though). The line is said by Ted (Joey's character in TGWDLM), in relation to Melissa (one of Mariah's characters in TGWDLM, specifically the one who asks Paul if he wanted to sign up for the company softball league).
ooh interesting!! i love how many callbacks npmd has to previous hatchetfield things, especially nightmare time. when i first watched abstinence camp and heard the "watching nerds run for their lives" lyric i was like >:0!!!
personally i think that the line "or until another richie comes along" refers to both max and richie the same way as in max thinks richie replaced him and is hoping that richie will get replaced
To say I was starstruck to see my own video mentioned in someone else's would be an understatement (I rushed to show my sister immediately), then your words just made my whole day, I'm sitting here smiling from ear to ear!
And the video and analysis were SO GOOD! You got me to both laugh and go "oooohhhhh that's a freaking good point" several times. Pokey in cahoot with Max would give a whole new perspective to Pokey's "Do it or die!" in The Summoning
Also, "thank you for watching me ramble about my favorite little guy" **this 'little guy' is a horrible person who murdered several others** is too damn relatable
thank you!!! if i get someone to Think About The Implications then i consider it a video well done hehe
also, yes, i will be the first to point out that max is a terrible person who made others' lives miserable and went on to murder a bunch of people. but he's also my special little guy :D
@@owlhari The more people who are Thinking About The Implications, the better (the safer we'll hopefully be from whatever the Langs are planning)
The "just a silly little guy" treatment is how I speak of Boy Jerry; the absolutely VILE human who also just happens to be my silly guy (everyone needs AT LEAST one of them)
This is an amazing analysis, and you have some great points and insights! However, there are a couple more instances of fourth-wall breaks (continuity? I’m not certain what the term is) like in Bury the Body, when Grace starts snapping to signify the start of the song, Richie goes “Oh god, she’s snapping again…” implying that he remembers Bully the Bully, as that was the only other time Grace snapped her fingers like that up until that point!
Not to mention the fourth wall break by the ensemble of Hatchetfield characters in Hatchet Town- “Singing all these songs gives him greater windows to kill, but we’re singing still!” Which is a pretty clear indication that well, they know they’re singing a song! Although you could explain both of these instances away as the Lords In Black meddling somehow, I figure it’s interesting enough to be brought to attention. You’re doing awesome work!
good catches! i also realized i didn't mention the pretty glaring "i bet you'd call this luck / well that's your perspective / i bet this song will suck" in cool as i think i am, which to me comes the closest to matching max's lines in literal monster in terms of meta awareness. everything else could be interpreted as lord in black meddling, like you said, but i think max's Everything really elevate him to having true awareness of being on a stage.
AHHHH this is so good! max is absolutely my favorite NPMD character and Pokey is my fav LiB. can’t wait to rotate the two of them in my brain together from now on. im
also so glad you called out will’s performance in NPMD because he was amazing! i probably wouldn’t love max as much as i do if he weren’t played the way he was
AHHH!! This is such a good analysis video! I always love people analyzing about my favorite things. especially since I do it a lot too.
One other point that I found think while I was watching your video, was that pokotho and max do have a lot in common. Especially with them both wanting absolute control over everything. In nightmare time, the yellowjackets episode I think, we hear a line about his desire to rule everything. And in tgwdlm we see that with the hive mind and him essentially taking over the world.
We also see the same kind of desire with max, he wants and has absolute control over hatchet field high. Even when he becomes a ghost, his goal is to control everything, by killing the nerds. And I'm not sure who says it but one line in npmd confirms this, it says after he kills all the nerds in hatchetfield, he'll then go to sycamore and then who knows where.
So it's just really cool to see the connection with them, I noticed that too with the blue coloring. Sorry for rambling lol but this was a great video!
Interesting to see a non SPG video! Your analysis videos are always a joy to see and I hope to see more of whatever you're hyperfixating on!
I never even thought about max this way! thank you for showing me this side of him!
im so tickled at the shoutout, thank you!!!! this was an AMAZING video. insta sub !!!
also please do the line by line analysis of dirty girl PLEASE
hmm also interesting that he mirrors Pokey's own greatest wish, a Singular Voice. Pokotho hates all voices that aren't his own and wants to snuff them out, Max was a totalitarian in life wanting the story of the school to only be told and created by him, and as a ghost he wasn't planning to just kill the nerdy prudes, because he'd already decided everyone was one if he said so, he wanted everything that wasn't him gone just the same as Pokey does
i have found this video and binged all of the conflux thank you i love you platonically (i consumed it. its in my stomach now)
Babe wake up Owlhari just uploaded… babe… *BABE WAKE UP*
Also, I’m TGWDLM it’s something you wouldn’t notice if you didn’t watch it so many times. The title read, ‘the guy who didn’t like musicals’, DIDNT, not DOESNT, in the present. he didn’t like musicals, in the past. Also telling the viewers from the very beginning that by the end he will like musicals, or forced to.
10/10 video essay, good points and also there were a few frames of Max shirtless
NPMD ANALYSIS FROM OWLHARI LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
I just wanted to throw in my own personal head cannons. The reason the ghosts of the Waylons aren't causing havoc is because of Ms. Holloway. She is probably powerful enough to handle their ghosts without giving anything to the Lords in Black because she already made a deal with them for her powers. There's even a moment from the Nightmare Time story Killer Track when Duke asks Holloway what she'll do if they're dealing with a ghost and she says "If it's a ghost, I'll trap it in this jar." So I get the feeling she's dealt with ghosts before. Plus dealing with evil spirits fits with in her MO.
I also think the only reason that she isn't here in this show is that NPMD is in a time line where Holloway lost to Uncle Wiley aka Wilbur Cross. The reason I think this is because Solomon has the Black Book instead of her. In the Ms. Halloween script readings it's implied that the Lords gave Holloway the book so she knows it's powerful and dangerous so I don't think Holloway would ever let that book fall into anyone else's hands. So if the Black Book is in anyone's hands other than Holloway's it's probably because she's dead.
IM ASO AUTISTIC ABOUT MAX JÄGERMAN jumping up and down like an insane person. Also autistic and nonbinary [ agender ] I love seeing other queers into the same stuff!
I rarely get fixated on things and while it is going to turn into a passive interest soon enough but I really adore npmd! Will Branner did such a good job and I loved all his subtle facial expressions and movements especially in Dirty Girl. The glimpses we get of him being what I consider his genuine self are EVERYTHING to me.
I’m really not someone who looks that deep into things but I loved hearing your exploration of Max as character. He is absolutely not a good person and maybe he did murder four people BUT he’s so silly to me he’s just a little guy who’s never done anything wrong in his life
