    Love your videos Terry! I’m a 55 year old roon user, I also play CDs. I’m very much in the “no need for touch screen, or album art display” camp. The only time I touch my gear is to turn it on or put a cd in. Each to their own! I’m currently looking for a major full system upgrade, separates or super all in one is the puzzle. There seems to be less and less manufacturers doing pure separates.

      Thanks David, if your looking at Hegel 600 money you have a healthy budget so best to take your time and go and listen to a few options to find what works best with your speakers, unless your buying new speakers then start there and get the upstream bits after.

      I know agreed to that with them, normally manufacturers ask me to embed my videos on their websites and I say yes. Lots of manufacturers have done this. Cyrus asked if they could host them on Vimeo instead and I agreed but this is not a normal thing I do for the record

    I owned many older cyrus 8s and X products. People say the cd player is really high-quality with the old psxr power supply, but i would say the amps mono or even the Integrated anps benefit, in my opinion. Dont ask me how it works. The sound stage is clearer separated. Each instrument sounds much crisper. I guess it's a clearer dc signal . Unplugging and plugging the lead in the rear is beneficial. In just the middle of fixing a cd 6 se sadly waiting on parts as usual. But i will be adding a power unit to that to see the results .
    I can't see why the newer products wouldn't work along the same vain and lift up the listening experience.

    Thanks for your very informative series of videos on these new Cyrus products. When you connected the CD & ST did you use analogue or digital out of the source units? In other words were you using the DACs in the sources or the DAC in the amp? Thanks.

    A bit silly to use mini-usb for the firmware upgrade port. Just use usb-c so it doesn't matte if you misplace the cable.

      Pretty sure it comes with the cable so your good if not Amazon next day is your friend. Plus I think you can connect the units together and upgrade that way but as I had them pre launch no upgrades were ready to test this

    It´s nothing personal but this new Cyrus range is just completely absurd 😅 why would anyone buy an underpowered amp, mid-fi dacs, unbalanced designs, power supply for 1 device?! .. at high-end prices.
    The reasoning here makes me mad and we all should be mad 😅
    At this pricepoint they should provide a state of the art power supply in every single device!

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  3 місяці тому +1

      Can you name any other products at this price with state of the art power supplies in them? I can’t
      Also who says its underpowered for what speaker is it under powered? More watts or less on paper doesnt make an amp sound powerful far from it. I put it under the hammer and it held its own with the more expensive NAD M23 which has double the power at least on paper. Didnt sound like that all in the flesh - it never does

    • @ropeburn6684
      @ropeburn6684 3 місяці тому +5

      @@PursuitPerfectSystemHe got a point. Power supplies are certainly vitally important, but on the other hand aren't all that expensive to design and produce properly. If you're buying an amplifier for several thousands, you can perfectly well expect a really good included PSU that's maybe worth a few hundreds. Above that, it's well within diminishing returns territory very quickly.
      You're right insofar as 2x100W being well enough in many use cases. But still, it's very mediocre for the price. You get double and triple that from other companies, for the same money. At a very comparable quality and feature level. Hell, you can get DAC and poweramp combos for a LOT less that aren't just more powerful, but which are already so good it's doubtful you'll hear a meaningful difference. Unless you really want to hear it, that is.

      @@ropeburn6684 what about the power supply in an amplifier like the gryphon apex - how much did that cost to build as that to me is likely cutting edge for hifi, that’s a £100k amp? Let’s be real here with our expectations

    • @justasimplefox
      @justasimplefox 3 місяці тому +3

      @@PursuitPerfectSystemYou are taking this completely out of context with the Gryphon 😅 The Cyrys 40 amp costs 3995£, if you invest this amount (and much less) with Hegel, Atoll, Rotel, Norma you double or triple transformer size and capacitors not ever needing an upgrade 😊

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  3 місяці тому +2

      What does that mean in real world terms you get double or triple the sound quality or performance no you don’t, you get something different that is all. If the Cyrus can hang with the M23 from NAD I have put that amp up against loads of amps and it would hold its own with all the amps you suggested there. Like I said in the review it ends up being a preference difference not one being miles better than the other. I stand by that, to add to that you won’t find anyone who pushes amps harder than me, no one

  • @BoredSilly666
    @BoredSilly666 3 місяці тому

    I have added a power amp to my integrated in the past and while it made an improvement in sound quality, I dont think I would do it again. For the price of power amp I would have been better selling the integrated amp and buying a better model or brand, Ive had nice improvements on using power supplies on my Dac and Streamer but I doubt I would ever get one again for my Amps.

  • @roa5359
    @roa5359 3 місяці тому +1

    Whilst I can't pretend that I don't have a certain amount of sarcasm about the PSU's cost of over 2 big ones per piece (I had several PSX-R's with my Cyrus system years ago and remember the PSU prices then ...) it is still small money in high end terms. People spend far more on cables. I wished I could afford this new Cyrus system simply based on visuals. I am still waiting to see these components opened up (all of them) to actually see what exactly was changed. It almost seems Cyrus is hesitant to release internal photos. The old PSX-R's used 300VA toroids and I believe the amplifiers too used transformers around that rating, space being a premium. The use of an ESS off the shelf chip is perhaps slightly disappointing, especially as products at a tenth of the cost now use them but I acknowledge that a) they are not built in the UK and b) implementation matters just as much as the hardware itself. Still, for this amount of money I would really expect something a bit more special, perhaps a Cyrus programmed FPGA solution. Other than, love the new range based on what I have seen but not heard.

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem so buying a cyrus cd player, streamer and amp as a system you have two spare dacs? or to put it another way you pay for two dacs you dont need. seems a bit odd to me. each to their own.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  3 місяці тому

      Yes in that situation it is yes, however if you had just the amp your good, or if you had the amp and cd player you could connect a streamer like I did and your good. So its a tough one, they either make the products to work individually or you would need them all - so you can see why they make them individual because you might not want them all. No right and wrong here but it makes sense why they do it this way.
      You can always look at it that the price would be the same and you get the dac for free :)

  • @davidbaines5487
    @davidbaines5487 3 місяці тому

    I’m put off by the fact that if I buy the cd player, the streamer, and the integrated, I’ve bought three dacs! For me it makes no sense to be making power supply upgrades for non-separates. Integrated + Streamer + 2 power supply is 12K. I still prefer Hegel H600.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  3 місяці тому

      To be fair you can’t prefer the Hegel without a side by side audition and only then you will appreciate how nice the Cyrus is compared to the Hegel in terms of look and feel and use etc. Having 3 dacs allows you to use the products individually, if you wanted to add a better dac to the Hegel as you might you would still be paying for one your not using. Whenever anything is built in that is always going to be the case. I would prefer the industry not to do this but they all do as all the others do too. It’s a vicious cycle for want of a better word
