How to Create a Grunge Effect in Adobe Illustrator

  • Опубліковано 14 сер 2024
  • Sometimes you just need to grunge it up… In this tutorial I show you how to add a weathered grunge effect to your vector artwork in Adobe Illustrator. It's as simple as converting two objects to compound paths and performing ONE Pathfinder operation. You'll be amazed at just how easy it is to add this cool effect to your logos.
NOTE: This tutorial should work in any version of Adobe Illustrator, not just Illustrator CC.

Seriously, this is the most helpful UA-cam Tutorial I have ever watched. I've literally been using Illustrator since the old Illustrator 88 and this is a great, super simple trick! I have always gone the long path, creating my effect in PhotoShop, turning to paths and exporting paths to Illustrator. This is so much more straight forward and is going to save me countless hours!

More easy way. type your text or make logo then right button create out line- transparency : make mask- mark Clip - go second black box then unmarked Clip. now copy your grunge and paste it on your text. click invert mask finally click left hand transparency box and you are done.
you can change your color as your wish. thanks

Great video, i liked it. From 6min: Instead of using pathfinder which will work but will not give you option to simply go back if you want to change anything on texture or replace it there is much better way how to do it.
Go to windows panel and select transparency.
    1) Have both objects selected ( texture on top)
    2) click on make mask
    3) click on invert mask
    4) click on clip(have it unchecked).
Boom done. There are two small squares, when clicked on right you can continue with work, when clicked on left you can change size of textures etc. And there is release box if you need to start from scratch. Im sure you know that just letting others to know :)

If you do this and everything disappears, make the group into a compound path (object ->compound->make) this turns the group into a single object so you can then minus front. Do this for both shapes you are working with. Good luck and thanks for the sub!

A tutvid for the Illustrator do-it-yourselfer that is quick, to the point, interesting, not muddied up with a bunch of; "look at me, I'm know a lot of confusing terminology" speak and exactly what I was looking for? • @JustinSeeley

If you’re talking about the texture image, you should invert that using Photoshop. Just open the JPG in Ps, choose image > Adjustments > invert. Save it. Then use image trace.
