This is OUTSTANDING! I've been using CorelDRAW since 1989, but never Illustrator. I may attempt it in Corel first. If I can't do it there, then it'll be a perfect reason to start using Adobe Illustrator. Well done sir!
Hello, great tutorial..however, the intersect it's not working, I tried it so many times but it's not working the lines is not going inside the text...Please help. Thank you.
Nice Tutorial. One thing you might mention is that with the appearance panel is you can add many internal strokes and effects on the text without turning it into a graphic so you can edit the text at any time. This is handy if you are doing several of these, or if you have an indecisive client who keeps on changing the text.
Yes, but can you create the line (blend) effects and everything else without turning the text into a graphic (create outlines)? I'd like to do that if possible so you can easily edit and revise the text.
I still have an original set of technical (Rapidograph) pens from 1981. I inked up tons of line work back then and glad I had those skills. That being said, I LOVE Illustrator and those pens will forever be in storage 😁 Great video, thanks!
You may just be the best on the web. Love watching you work. Thank you. Now to figure how to apply this to screen printing with over prints and chokes.
Always fantastic, easy to follow tutorials. I did this one with the fonts I had and got some excellent results. I always watch your tutorials when they come out and then can refer back to them when I need to learn a technique for a project. Keep up the good work!
The problem that everyone describes in minute 5 is because they select the letters incorrectly at the beginning of the video. Once they ungroup the text they must choose letter by letter using Shift in Windows. DO NOT select everything by dragging the mouse. One by one they select and then create the borders using negative values. Then, when you are going to merge the lines for the fill, you have to choose the inner edge of a letter and have them all selected. Then Shift and select the lines and click on Pathfinder. In some cases later when making the shadow you must select each word by its border, not inside the word. Its edge.
There were several steps that were repeated, meaning they were core concepts that apply to various techniques - I would love to see you break these down more slowly for those of us following along at home. Then you could say, using technique "Spoon Graphics" SG10 do so and so.... then we could go back to that video, learn the base techniques you so expertly teach, and not feel so overwhelmed by the speed at which you (necessarily) cover material in video's like this. I'd def do a patreon sub to get those (and other) core techniques in slowed down style so beginners can master those core concepts and techniques. That would be so cool.
I have Illustrator 2020. At minute 5, the lines in the letters do not look good. Some interior areas of the letters remain unfilled. What am I doing wrong?
great video. Very helpful to learn how to use the tools and let the software do the work for you. So many times I am doing things "manually." This will be influencing our marketing materials for sure.

If you make an editable version of this style on text, it will be a very nice tutorial video, I hope you will do it, good work.
I really loved this video, it helped out a lot. The question I have is do I have to make the project in large form to render it down smaller in a PNG file? I tried to reduce the size of the text to meet a smaller art board but it makes the text all distorted.
Thank you for the tutorial, great font bundle. I have followed your steps a few times but keep getting the following error when I click on pathfinder/intersect. I get the following error "The filter produced no results. Please select two overlapping paths". Any help will be appreciated.
Hey I had the same problem. You have to make sure to change the outline text to compound path AGAIN just before you hit the intersect button. The text will turn black but once you hit intersect it will go back to normal. Hope that helps.
Yessssss....Thats what I'm talking about. Another amazing turorial. A gift from the "Typographical Godzzz"!!! These are those extra special tutorials that really inspire graphic artists. Bravo!
You inspired me and I was able to do the using the appearance panel which was a pain in the butt! Worth it snow i can save it as a graphic style and apply it to any font! thanks for the content!
This is where I’m stuck too. I follow every single step up until this point and when I click intersect nothing happens. I’ve been doing this for hours, and can’t get past this point
I'm having problems at around 5:00 getting the lines inside the shape using the "Intersect" tool. Doesn't allow me to do that, says to select two overlapping paths?
Hi...greetings from slovakia. Please - what did you do in 5:01? Immediately before clicking on Pathfinder panel. It was some selection or what...? thanks a lot. j.k.
I just so happened to find you while I was deep down in the rabbit hole of design work and hand down.....THIS IS AMAZING. Exactly what I have been looking for. Bit of a sucker for punishment Im afraid - must learn how to do things knowing full well I can purchase the files pre made. However...this was just way too tempting and perfectly executed with instructions. I too have a fascination with hand lettering and this is brilliant - thank you so much for sharing. 😎😎 Cheers!
when I click the intersect butoon on pathfinder... it always says... the filter produced no results.. please select two overlapping paths... what to do??? please reply
Try making sure both of the things you are trying to intersect are selected! If that doesn't work, they might not be in the right order on top of each other and so it doesn't know what to intersect.
WHY DID I ONLY SEE YOU NOW?? Thanks for this tip and you bet I'll subscribe to your channel and mailing list! Thanks for helping us out man! Super appreciate Spoon Graphics!

instead of repeating blending i use dashed lines in the stroke menu. i can also set dashes and gaps then also expand and work with.
Spoon graphics with my morning coffee. A good way to start the day
Yet another unparalleled, no nonsense tutorial. Best on youtube.

Hello, great tutorial..however, the intersect it's not working, I tried it so many times but it's not working the lines is not going inside the text...Please help. Thank you.
You can also use Clipping Mask to insert the stripes inside the inner offset compound path
I used this technique for a holiday poster, and the team loved it. Thanks!

Yes, but can you create the line (blend) effects and everything else without turning the text into a graphic (create outlines)? I'd like to do that if possible so you can easily edit and revise the text.
@@crunchmouth you can use a clipping mask on the blend to achieve the same effect without creating outlines
Didn't know Tobias had a font bundle. His lettering is so good and will probably buy this set this week. Thanks!
That had to be one of the most impressive video tutorials I have seen on UA-cam yet. Well done.
I still have an original set of technical (Rapidograph) pens from 1981. I inked up tons of line work back then and glad I had those skills. That being said, I LOVE Illustrator and those pens will forever be in storage 😁 Great video, thanks!
This is the best vintage text tutorial on UA-cam IMHO. Thank you for taking the time.
That is gorgeous! I use a lot of the functions you did in my daily workflow so I followed it pretty well. But that looks amazing!
The amount of creativity this man possesses is unbelievable

Hello, this is an incredible text effect, really like the details! I'm glad that I've watched the video, great work!
WOW!!! This right here is simply AMAZING!!!
2:58 For those who are having trouble at this step, be sure you have it set to change the color for the stroke, not the fill.
I don't understand you. In the video he puts color in the fill, not in the stroke
Just picked it up $44 with the code!! I'm running out of stuff to do all cooped up, these tutorials will keep me occupied for a while.
Thank Mitchell, I hope you're enjoying your new fonts so far!
@@spoongraphics Just getting started! thanks for the inspiration

Thank you! Can you change the wording once save?
Stunning !
@4:55 To use intersect feature what has to be selected? Is it the most inner letters and the lines or every letter and the lines?
This is where I’m stuck too. I follow every single step up until this point and when I click intersect nothing happens. I’ve been doing this for hours, and can’t get past this point

Never mind, forgot to Create Compound Path after Expanding the lines first. Leaving this here in case anyone else runs into the same problem I did. :)
Thank you - just what I needed!
Super useful! Thanks for sharing 😊

You are by far the best teacher for soft soft . It's very complicated at first - overwhelming, actually - but, you make it doable for

Unbelieveble! Really great!
Very cool though it would be great to see something like this done in photoshop for those of us that don't have Illustrator.
This saved me! Thank you SO MUCH!
Very cool, thanks for sharing

This is what i need now. Thank you. You are great!
5:00
how did he make the intersect ?
Use Pathfinder (CTRL+SHIFT+F9)
You lost me at the 4:50 mark where you said something like select the text shapes. I couldn't see what you were actually selecting.
Same
The way he says "master penman's" I'm in love
