It's one of my favorite movies as well. This is how I discovered the band Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Their song East Hastings plays when he's roaming the empty streets after leaving the hospital.

Seen them in Montreal live twice still love their earlier stuff from the 90's - early 00's the most. If you like them I suggest checking out their other project A Silver Mt. Zion.

@@boblister6174 I'm familiar with A Silver Mt. Zion, but for me, it doesn't hit the spot like GY!BE does :\ I've only seen them once back in 2019, it was really good. The fastest 2 hours of my life.

I'm just starting this video but I'm really surprised that Ixi wasn't familiar with GY!BE before this. They were pretty instrumental in the creation of the score for 28 Days Later and they're pretty in line with the genres she generally gravitates toward. Danny Boyle, the director of 28 Days Later, even stated at one point in an interview: "I always try to have a soundtrack in my mind [when creating a film]. Like when we did Trainspotting, it was Underworld. For me, the soundtrack to 28 Days Later was Godspeed. The whole film was cut to Godspeed in my head."
Sadly some of those tracks didn't get credited in the film at all. East Hastings comes to mind, phenomenal song that really underpins the rising tension of the film.
Ixi, if you're reading this, check out GY!BE's first two album releases: "F♯ A♯ ∞" (1997), and Lift Your Skinny Arms... (2000). Fantastic albums and I think you'll enjoy them. I just learned today that they're still putting out music, they released an album in 2021 in fact, so that's cool. Gonna have to go check that out myself, glad to see they're still around.
Similarly, for anyone seeking more music like GY!BE, you'll probably enjoy Explosions in the Sky, A Silver Mt. Zion, and Mogwai to get you started. Their genre used to be called post-rock but I don't really follow genre trends so I'm not sure if that's still accurate.
      Enjoy!

28 days is a masterpiece and one of the most important horror films of the 21st century. It would have been brilliant one way or the other but the music and this piece in particular elevated it into legend status.

ixi, I know it's a long shot (although you've gone over Deftones before, which is kind of in the same realm), there is this EP that came out recently that's super classical, but extremely heavy. I don't know if it'd be too heavy, but they did a cover on there of '𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫' 𝐛𝐲 𝐕𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐢 that's really cool. So, start there if you look into it at all. But yeah, the rest is great too, it's just VERY extreme/intense sometimes. Harsh vocals only. 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐲𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭/𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚 is the group/collective. The EP is called '𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐝𝐝𝐚'. I think it'd get your heart racing (as in, the music effectively eliciting that feeling, not just being overwhelmed by the sound.. although sometimes it can do that too) and keep you interested. Think about it 👉👉

I think it was hugely influential on composers for film and other media too. A couple that stand out to me:
The Hades OST by Darren Korb, if you listen to it as an OST, has a pretty similar vibe-nearly every track has a quieter half and a heavier distorted guitar-driven / full metal band half, and the slow build is really satisfying. (You don't necessarily hear this if you play the game, since it just crossfades between quiet/heavy depending on what's happening as you play.)
Also the Celeste OST by Lena Raine, particularly the second level theme Resurrections, is *very* similar in some ways with a repeating melody line G# - A, B, C (in A minor), but with a different slow bass note progression underneath. It also starts with the minor-Major sound and then cycles through chords that change each time according to the bass note. Sometimes a note will also shift a little for certain bass notes like was pointed out in the video, to form (or avoid) certain intervals. It's so similar I knew it felt eerily familiar even the first time I heard it, but overall the track is very different (for example it also incorporates two big lietmotifs that are used throughout the OST, and so much other stuff going on). It may have taken some inspiration from "In The House" either consciously or not, but it's done really well.
(The part I'm talking about starts about 1m20s in Ressurections: ua-cam.com/video/1rwAvUvvQzQ/v-deo.htmlsi=6p3fLcCSW5hEM3Kg )

Disclaimer: I really liked this movie.
But: it was the first time I realized one of my biggest Hollywood pet peeves - people walking up from a coma in a really healthy state.
Protagonist was asleep for four weeks! You don't just get up and walk around after that. Your whole body is atrophied and won't work. You not only can't walk, you can't even adjust your position laying down. Your first PT session is sitting up in bed (with help) then laying back down. And that's it till tomorrow. You're wiped out.
Realistic: waking up extremely thirsty. Your throat is sandpaper. At least they got that right.

It really works if you play it in drop D on a guitar. It's a bit tricky (for me anyway, enthusiastic amateur) and it seems to make perfect sense. Perhaps the different instruments have different perspectives, e.g. piano vs. guitar, where things are layed out very differently. It's still amazing though.
