IVE definitely has my heart as a boy group person. their music is really just hypnotic. but honestly i have never been the same since i heard "narcissistic, my god i love it"
i think that's what makes IVE songs fresh and interesting, they always play around with the minor and major key without making it being dissonant, and this started way back since the Eleven era. and i love how most of their songs are in minor key. there's always darkness and tension in their songs.
One thing i just love about is that, it was a self fufilling prophecy. It was this cocky, /narcissistic/ proclamation that you'd fall in love with them, and that's exactly what happened so you couldn't even judge them for being narcissistic. Not to mention, the fact that they have Wonyoung and Yunjin, one of the greatest visuals to ever visual and one of the best, most enchanting performers you can find respectively as the centers of this song, it doesn't feel like a concept, it feels like this is who they are and it draws you in.
on the topic of choreography, in LD the choreography here looks amazing even it's so simple and then now we got heya where rei is running to her position.
idk Wonyoung's facecam appeared one day on my fyp. I heard "narcissistic, my god i love it" and my life hasn't been the same since, her performance was so good and the song (most of IVE's songs) is so hypnotic.
So basically, this song makes your sub-conscious sit up and take notice because it is such a complex departure from the average pop song. Your brain must work over-time to keep up. That's why the sound is ADDICTIVE. The producers really knew what they were doing here, it's AMAZING. AWESOME! Congratulations on graduating and starting your life for real! That's COOL! Those of us who are old enough/ experienced enough will understand about how 'life gets in the way'. We can totally relate to your going MIA for a bit. I personally will be waiting because you are REALLY GOOD at these kinds of videos! You have it really well-thought-out and you sort-of cross-reference while you are explaining. Very well done, you did a great job on this video! :)
“Your brain must work overtime to keep up” that’s a great way to put it. I feel like I could use that to describe why I enjoy a lot of K-pop in general. Thanks for the support!
12:10 To add to the hypnotizing delivery in the bridge discussion (as well as also going along with the lyric and song portions too, haha), I think it goes well with the interpretation of the lyrics, as IVE as the reflection in the water to a Narcissus-like figure (Although, Cupid is not usually involved in Narcissus' myth, but they at least added the connection/this interpretation of the lyrics as the Greek myth by invoking Cupid). Like you pointed out in the choreo section, even the choreo references the Narcissus myth as well as IVE being their own reflections with the you into me me into you lyric part. It could also be Echo that IVE are embodying in the lyrics, but I personally feel its more the reflection singing to Narcissus in the lyrics rather than Echo herself, but anyways. In the bridge, its only the refrain that repeats: "Hold your breath, love dive" in that hypnotizing way that you pointed out. Its the reflection begging Narcissus to make that leap of faith into the water, to take his grand dive in love/into the pool. And with the final chorus that happens afterward, to me it symbolizes that jump into the pool, explosive and all-consuming that is all built up with the bridge: this hypnotic voice tempting this figure up the hill to take that love dive. Its what also makes that part of the song addicting to me more than the rest. That bridge/dance break is needed to set up this slow build up into that final chorus as if you are quite literally taking that love dive yourself.
Eleven, Love Dive and After LIKE were a trilogy (quadrilogy if you consider I AM), they throw the arrow in Eleven's choreography and finally get hit by it in After LIKE's choreography, also the album covers colors reflecting RGB (though with G and B having changed positions), Eleven is Red, Love Dive is Blue and After LIKE is Green and I'VE IVE's album cover is white, which marks the union of the other three albums because white light can be produced when you mix red, blue and green lights and vice-versa.
Your music theory analysis videos make my former music major brain so happy! Congratulations on your graduation, and good luck to you. It takes time to settle in, enjoy it and remember to be kind to yourself!
Idk how but I was soo attracted to this song when I first heard it. It's because of the creepy/kinda siren vibe that it gives off. I LOVE the choreography too! They definitely did a great job with this song!
Ooh, it's that time…This series is back with a song I enjoyed! It's like a pattern at this point… I initially avoided Love Dive until…about a few months ago, I think? I checked out After Like when it came out and the chorus (earwormy as it was-looking at you HEYA) just felt a bit annoying, and I think I conflated the two songs later in my head and never bothered to see what the hype was about. I really enjoyed I AM, but thought it was a one-off fluke, so I didn't bother with Love Dive. So when I finally *did* get around to listening to it…well. Usually, the more hype something gets, the less likely I am to like it, but I can confidently say it really does deserve the praise it got, for the most part. I love how much time you spent on the song itself, because just the sound of it all is so exquisite. Call me PIXY, cause I'm addicted…It doesn't beat out some of my all-time favorites, don't get me wrong, but it really is a stellar release, especially from such a new group at the time. The intro you pointed out, with the near-instant start and the feathery vocals, blew me away the first time I listened, and the transitions between each part still give me chills every time. I never paid any attention to the concept (and frankly, didn't even watch the MV, which made the image of the song in my head a mashup of the After Like and I AM MVs, which is a particular vibe of its own), but the Narcissus references definitely make the more romancey concept (which usually I despise) much better in my opinion. And yes, Hera is awful, as are many gods in Greek mythology, looking at you Athena, aren't you supposed to be the goddess of wisdom, I would think that would grant you the ability to discern a fair retaliatory measure (yes, you can't punish the god who actually wronged you because immortality [unless Hera does one thing wrong, in which case it's TOTALLY FINE for Zeus to punish her however he wants, yeah THAT'S fair], but the girls who were absolutely not consenting do not deserve any further punishment, come ON), and I love that you got to have a little rant about that. This whole video was obvious how much you were having fun and just genuinely enjoy the song, and even if I didn't already like it, I'd be inclined to re-consider my position at the very least. Your videos are always a shining ray of positivity and passion in what sometimes feels like an ocean of negativity and toxicity that seems to encompass most of K-tube, at least when it comes to commentary, and seeing an upload from you never fails to brighten my day! No matter how long it takes, I'll always look forward to whatever you make next. Take your time and congrats so much on graduation!! Wishing you the best of luck in your transition period

Any K-pop group has a book of songs that cover good love/bad love/no love. But self-love?, more rare. And framing with Greek mythology? Who else does that? That’s some mature design/composition. More Kpop songs should nix a rap verse (I’m sorry Mingi and Hongjoong 😭😭😭) there’s a lot of songs that don’t need a rap. Love Dive is one, and I Am SHOULD have nixed the rap. It didn’t need it, imo the rap kind of throws me out of the song.
