Agree the 100 days thing is everywhere. Story telling in a game is basically dead. This is why people love your content because it’s not sterile it’s more organic than that. I still go back to the Cave Ostrich moment because that nearly killed me and you can’t replicate that in a sterile environment. Keep being you Sam.

In my time as a UA-cam as a content maker I've seen the platform tank. I used to be part of a tight group of gardening UA-camrs and I made a decent amount of money from ads. Now revenue is practically ZERO and everyone of my peers tried chasing the engagement dragon and burned out because of it.

Honestly, I miss Past Gaming content, I remember watching Let's Plays all the time, a few select creators that were entertaining and played games, but now finding a proper Long form Let's Play of major releases is kinda difficult, and the creators are usually relatively uninteresting. Let's Plays were how I experienced games growing up, because I didn't have the money or the consoles/PC to play every new release, even though I might have been interested in them. One of my all time favourite LPers was SSoHPKC, because he was super entertaining, but he's basically left the platform now. I think the main problem is YT LPs just aren't as profitable anymore, the platform has grown oversaturated, and the only way to survive is through external donations, i.e Patreon, or by chasing the ever-changing 'YT Meta'. Sticking to 1 game for too long, just leaves you behind.
To me, Personality is more important than the games being played, or content being produced. As long as the content is good and the personality is interesting, I'll watch someone for hours.
I just watch your rimworld videos, they are very original. I tried to watch some other people but the videos are all like that, this the modpack and they play in the most optimal way. No storytelling just a normal and generic gameplay. Keep the amazing work going it's the most entertaining thing I have to watch this days. Great episode and give a pat to Mabel for me.
Sam is the only gaming YTuber I follow / support because he doesn't fall into those two obnoxious YTubers categories: 1) Spastic, ADHD messes that constantly scream or 2) Trend Chasers who have no original ideas.
When it comes to niche games that appeal to a hyperspecific audience like CK3, you can always tell whose making videos out of passion, and whose doing it because they’re into it a bit but on that grind. I’ve come across a lot of vids that have titles like “making the RAREST empire” with the CK3 character models pog facing in the thumbnail or whatever, and it just feels so forced. Like, you know for a fact that there’s a much better guy with tinny microphone audio and lightly photoshopped thumbnails who will nerd out about the region as he conquers it, and then does a specific challenge that’s actually difficult ingame.
