He's such an honest artist. I love the way he talks about the process of making music and I can relate a lot. He is just doing what he loves and didn't play the guitar since he was three or was already singing in his crib but still he is one of the greatest artists I know.
wait stop. you mean to tell me that this man TAUGHT HIMSELF HOW TO SING IN HIS MID-TWENTIES?! AND HE NEVER SANG BEFORE THAT AND DIDN'T THINK HE CAN SING?! THIS MAN IS RUNNING ON PURE TALENT.
We saw Band of Horses at the Roundhouse in London last night. I didn’t know a great deal about the band besides The Funeral, Marry Song and No One’s Gonna Love You being three of my all time favourite songs. Ben has an incredible voice, and they put on an incredible show. I’m very glad I made the trip to see them live.
Yeah, I haven't seen them live(apparently I did at a festival, but that's a bit hazy). But until recently, I was the same as you, knew the big tunes but didn't bother with the rest. They're definitely worth investigating. Wish I'd caught them too.
I really appreciate you all asking Ben these specific questions about the songwriting process. I've been scratching my head over how he can fill up albums with such deceptively basic, atypical, and beautiful songs. It's hard to believe he has the discernment to so carefully choose the notes and rhythms of his melodies, yet not know if the song as a whole is any good. It's kind of fascinating and gives me new energy to explore melody. Thanks.
Ben no one has a singing voice like yours, its distinctive and melodic, when I first heard your singles on Triple J Australia I had to buy your music, still love it,thankyou.
I hope this inspires all of us to know it’s never too late to start making music or doing what we love. Social anxiety hides a lot of great talent in the world.
It surprises me that he got into songwriting and performing so late in life. I love his writing. He's certainly come a long way from nothing in a short time.
Just saw BOH last night in Ft.LAUDERDALE one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time the energy in the room was electric Ben is an incredible singer / songwriter The Funeral one of the greatest songs ever written ❤
Holy crap his speaking voice is SO MUCH DEEPER than I imagined after listening to “No One’s Gonna Love You”!! I totally expected a higher tenor voice. Seems like he would actually be a baritone though? But he can hit those high notes anyway, good head/mix voice I guess.
I enjoyed a few songs from BOH that were played on my local college radio station but the rest of the songs from albums up to that point started to grow on me and then I found myself looking forward to new music from them. Great interview! - - I adore their Live at the Ryman release. I think at the end of half the songs he thanks the audience and sounds honestly surprised and grateful. Its beautiful.
Great person. It's refreshing to see an artist with so much talent and no ego. Band of Horses are an incredible band!
Amen
I just stumbled back into this band that meant so much to me 15+years ago. The chills they provoke are profound. One of my all-time favorites.

+Jay Sharp thanks! It came from the heart ;)
His honesty and humility really shine through in the songs and interviews like this one.

the excitement that started to show on his face while talking about getting in a band and touring is dope!
Great interview!
This guy's talking voice is somehow even softer than his singing voice lol
Someone tell him his music is AMAZING’
Ben and Father John Misty should do an album
Ben is the best!
3:00 It's funny listening to him talk about Carissa's Wierd like that. Hahaha
All talent and no ego. Not pretentious or "holier-than-thou" in any way. Nice guys don't finish last.
He's not British? Why did I think he was British?
Rachel Curl me too 🤣🤣🤣
It's the teeth.
Nope, from South Carolina. You can hear it in the long "o's" when he sings.
jamming is so awkward.
