Well I thought I’d make it as the flowers are open for several days on feijoas but only appear to shed pollen for a short while so I though this might be useful for some people 😁.
Lol Adrian I've done several tasting videos on the flower petals, to be honest I don't find them worth eating except as a novelty, not that sweet and not much flavour 😂😂
Good information Brett on how to pollinate the guava flowers👍are you not having problems with catapillars yet, all my leafs are getting munch every day including the fruit iv pollinate my orange has been eaten and my Pomelo, I did not have that problem last year but this year the catapillar took over😔
My citrus are being eaten badly by slugs and snails 🙄🙄. I do have little caterpillars on the pineapple guavas. They tend to be tiny ones at the ends of young shoots. You see the leaves stuck together by what seems to be silk and there's often a tiny Caterpillar between the leaves.
@@lyonheart84 yeh iv been seeing that on my leafs then finding small catapillar there, I kill them then after few days they are back again no chemical bug works on it, also tried organic no joy at all
Thanks for the video which tells me why I have been trying to grow Feijoa for 18 years with no success. My plants, which include one self fertile one and several grown from seed collected in some gardens in northern Spain, all flower well but never set fruit, even though I have tried half heartedly to self pollinate them. Now with your advice and flower buds on them about to open I can try again and I hope succeed. My little trees are all in large pots but just to get a few fruit would be a great triumph for me. Thanks again for your information.
Well hopefully I’ve said something useful, there’s no guarantees they set fruit but it’s well worth keep trying. My in ground ones definitely set easier than the pot grown ones
@@lyonheart84 We have pretty terrible soil here (alkaline and clay) but perhaps I should get some good compost and get them planted out in the soil in a bunch. I think they are now all big enough to survive the worst the French winters will throw at us now. :)
I think they are fairly tolerant of most soil conditions to be fair although thick clay never really suits anything. I always try to amend the soil in a large hole and mix the native soil in with the amended soil to try and help the plant adapt 🤞
Hello , question, my pineapple guava tree has been planted for over 3 years now , i do get flowers every year, and looks healthy but not fruits at all, maybe there s a why?? thanks.
Where are you growing them ? And do you have 2 genetically different varieties ? Most pineapple guavas are not self fertile. I would also recommend hand pollinating

@@lyonheart84 you must eat the petal in its first hours after the flower opens,if it fades its no good.I find them sweet,but not super sweet!

Your climate is ok so either the plant needs to get more mature or you need better cross pollination
An u just pick a flower off and dab it on others
That’s correct although if you don’t have many flowers you wouldn’t want to pick the flowers, just use a brush to transfer pollen 😁
Anybody else notice rats get attracted to these?
Haven’t seen a rat in my garden for a long time but I can imagine they’d like the sugar content 😁
